Dear Mike,
Glad to hear from you. Knowing that you are enthusiastic about/crazy about Tang poems, I feel proud and I am writing to introduce my favorite poet, Li Bai to you.
Living in a golden age of Chinese poetry, Li Bai is best known for his rich imagination and free expressions of strong feelings in his poetry, as well as his great love for alcohol. He is regarded as the greatest romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty. What I like most is his landscape poems, which are characterized by the romantic style. Even the most uninformed reader would not fail to be impressed by the poet‘s rich imagination. The moon and stars in the sky, the natural landscape and the figures in legends all become a vehicle for his imagination. Today they continue to be enjoyed by countless readers around the world.
I hope this can be of help to you. If you have any questions in your Tang Poetry studying, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Yours,
LiHua

One possible version:
After sending the letter, I felt a heavy weight on my mind. Would he receive it How would he respond I waited for his reply, nervously opening up the mail each day. Days later, his response arrived. I read the letter again and again, disbelief washing over me — it wasn’t the distant, silent dad I knew but someone wise, tender, approachable. I plucked up my courage and called him. We both fumbled for words, but couldn’t find any. Finally, a shaky “I love you” passed between us before we hung up, both overwhelmed by the weight of the moment. His words had stirred a deep desire for me to see him, to seek for the love that we had lost for so long.
I visited my father soon after receiving his letter. My time with my father was sweet and meaningful. We sat on the porch, the familiar scent of cut grass and old wood filling the air. The awkwardness of the past seemed to melt away, replaced by a shared history of laughter, tears, and the unspoken desire for connection. Though our paths had been apart, they were now coming back together. It was a conversation filled with a quiet understanding. It was a conversation filled with shared openness. It was a conversation filled with unexpected warmth. Together, we stepped forward on a journey towards healing and forgiveness between a father and a son.
①鼓起勇氣:pluck up one’s courage/take heart of grace/get up the courage
②尋找:seek for/search for/look for

【點睛】[高分句型1] I waited for his reply, nervously opening up the mail each day.
[高分句型2] I read the letter again and again, disbelief washing over me — it wasn’t the distant, silent dad I knew but someone wise, tender, approachable.

根據最后一段中“It can be done through free online classes without any equipment, making it an affordable workout at home.(它可以通過免費的在線課程完成,不需要任何設備,使其成為一種負擔得起的在家鍛煉)”可知,HIIT間歇訓練可以在家跟著網上免費課程訓練,所以這項運動是非常經濟實惠且方便開展的。
根據文章第二段“My way of travelling is different. I just pick a destination and then go there, leaving things to chance. (我的旅行方式與眾不同。我只是選定一個目的地,然后就去那里,聽天由命。)”可知,作者第一段提到朋友的旅行計劃是為了引出下文自己與朋友截然不同的旅行方式。故選C項。
【25題詳解】
細節理解題。根據文章第五段“On the way, a young woman talked to me and gave me a tip for a visit to a hidden local restaurant with delicious and affordable food. There, I enjoyed the meal surrounded by the relaxing local music. (在路上,一位年輕女子與我交談,并給我推薦了一家隱藏在當地、食物美味且價格實惠的餐廳。在那里,我在輕松的當地音樂中享受著美食。)”可知,作者在Trinidad旅行時,在當地一家隱蔽的餐館享用了一頓美餐。故選D項。

細節理解題。根據文章第六段“Most of them have never gone outside; others even never left their hometown. In many cases, they express a sense of fear, or going someplace where they won’t know anybody. (他們中的大多數從未出過國;還有一些人甚至從未離開過家鄉。很多時候,他們表達的是一種恐懼,或是去一個不認識任何地方。)”可知,學生們不愿意出門旅行的原因主要是對未知的恐懼。故選B項。
【27題詳解】
主旨大意題。根據全文以及最后一段“One that struck me was, “I wish I had taken more chances.” Setting off little planning does mean taking a risk, but for me, it is rewarding.
根據第一段關鍵句“After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make a difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance — curiosity and discontent.(經過多年對人性的觀察,我發現有兩種品質決定了成就卓越的人和表現一般的人的區別:好奇和不滿。)” 故選A。
根據第二段“Together, these deep human urges (驅策力) count for much more than ambition. Galileo was not merely ambitious when he dropped objects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at Pisa and timed their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”(總之,這些人類內心深處的欲望比野心要重要得多。
根據第三段內容“ “The great man,” said Mencius, “is he who does not lose his child’s heart.” Yet most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd. And the crowd desires only the calm and restful average.( 孟子說:“不失去孩子的心,才是偉大的人。”然而,我們大多數人都失去了它。我們不再問問題。我們不再挑戰習俗。我們只是隨大流。而大眾只渴望平靜寧靜的普通人。)”以及第四段中“But once having met and liked them, we think how terrible it would have been, had we missed the chance. We will probably have to force ourselves to waken our curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.(但一旦遇見并喜歡上了他們,我們就會想,如果我們錯過了這個機會,那該有多糟糕啊。我們可能不得不強迫自己喚醒我們的好奇心和不滿,并讓它們保持清醒。)”可知,要喚起我們的好奇心和不滿,我們需要做與段落中相反的事,即我們要不滿足于現狀,勇于探索,勇于提出問題。由此可知,你能通過培養質疑的思維來重新找回好奇心和不滿。故選B。
【31題詳解】
推理判斷題。根據倒數第二段中“The way to begin is to answer your own excuses. You haven’t any special ability Most people don’t; there are only a few geniuses. You haven’t any time That’s good, because it’s always the people with no time who get things done. (開始的方法是回答你自己的借口。你沒有什么特殊能力嗎?大多數人不會;天才屈指可數。你沒有時間嗎?這很好,因為總是那些沒有時間的人把事情做好。)”以及最后一段中“However you start, remember there is no better time to start than right now, for you’ll never be more alive than you are at this moment.(無論你如何開始,記住沒有比現在更好的開始時間,因為你永遠不會比此刻更有活力。)”

M: So, how’s the new apartment (9)
W: Absolutely tiny! But there’s a great café nearby, and it only takes me five minutes to cycle to the office. (8)
M: Lucky you! It took me almost 45 minutes to get here this morning. (8)
W: Honestly, I love it. But it’s rather empty-looking. I want to make it more welcoming and look fuller, (9) but I’m struggling to choose colors. I absolutely love red. But that would be too powerful in such a small space.
M: Well, don’t they say that white walls make a space seem bigger
W: Yeah. But I think white often looks “cold” and boring.
M: What about something warm and bright, like light yellow or orange
W: Hmm… That’s a great idea. I haven’t considered those colors.
W: Hi, thanks for coming. I was driving and the car just stopped. I pulled over and phoned for assistance.
M: Okay, let’s see if I can get it going again. Can you tell me anything more Like, was the car making any noises before it broke down
W: Only when it began to stop, not before. I was going along without any problems, then it began losing power.
M: Let’s look at the engine. Can you turn the keys, please
W: Okay.
M: It’s not the battery because the lights are working. The engine all looks good, to be honest. When was the last time you filled up with petrol (11)
W: Er, not for a while. So, petrol isn’t likely to be the problem. Do you think it’s run out (11)
M: It certainly looks that way! See… (11)
W: Oh dear. I feel so stupid. (11)
M: Don’t worry. This happens to lots of people. We’ll soon get your car running again!
M: Okay, Ling, have you decided on a topic for your end-of-year report
W: Yes, Mr. Yang. I want to write about China’s rural revitalization(鄉村振興) program. (16)
M: Okay, great. Have you done any research so far (14)
W: No, I’m still in the planning stage. I’d like to have a good structure decided before I begin writing. (14)
M: Okay, tell me what you’re thinking.
W: Well, there are many interesting aspects to this program, like environmental and social aspects, although I’m mainly interested in the economic side of things.
M: Interesting! Go on.
W: My father grew up on a farm. He went to college, but he always said he had no choice but to move to the city if he wanted to use his degree. Now, thanks to this program, the situation is changing. More young people are returning to their hometowns to start businesses in places with less competition. (15) (16)
M: And that’s what you plan to focus on (16)
W: Yes. (16) I believe the government’s plan to improve pay and conditions will turn the countryside into a place of opportunity and growth.
M: Well, it’s an interesting topic. I look forward to reading it!
Text 10
I turned 13 on the 22nd of January 2019, (17) and the first thing I did was register for a Facebook account. (18) Little did I know what I was getting myself into. I quickly began adding friends, sharing pictures and updating my status(狀態). At first, I loved chatting and seeing into other people’s lives. (18) However, I soon saw a darker side to the online world. I posted a video of my cousin and I dancing to music, which received some mean comments from some of my classmates. (19) This kind of thing happened a few times, even though the girls involved were still nice to me in person. And it wasn’t just people I knew who were unkind online. After sharing my thoughts on a hobby group, I received some terrible private messages from a total stranger! These experiences really affected my confidence for a while. Then I realized that social media can help us understand the world, but it can also do us harm. I decided to focus on my real-life friendships and deleted my account. Now I’m older, I’m planning to go back on social media. (20) However, this time I’ll be stricter with what I share, and with the behavior I accept from others.

Humans are always exploring new ways to feel, look and live better. As with everything else in life, our approach to keeping fit and healthy has changed over time. Here are four iconic fitness trends through the decades.
Aerobics — 1970s
Aerobics took off to improve the cardiovascular (心血管) system in a fun way and dance moves were combined with fitness movements, such as leg raises and marching in place. Aerobics inspired many different spin-offs from dance and step aerobics, to even water-based classes, all set to music.
Spinning — 1990s
Spinning launched cycling revolution in the 1990s which continues to this day, thanks to big-name gyms which have made cycling on fixed bikes a party for participants. Color changing lights, high-energy music and enthusiastic instructors have turned spin classes into a lively group activity which has attracted fans around the world.
CrossFit—2000s
CrossFit has been a team favorite in the fitness scene since the 2000s. The activity is competitive yet shared, with scores being tracked on a board. Classes typically last an hour or less, making each session an intense (強度的) and time-efficient workout which many are able to fit into their busy schedules.
HIIT — 2020s
HIIT, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training, has gained popularity recently, along with the rise of home workouts. Exercises, done in short, intense bursts, aim to build strength and endurance. It can be done through free online classes without any equipment, making it an affordable workout at home.

A friend recently showed me her planned trip to Italy. Over cups of tea, she laid out the trip in military order—the Colosseum, Pompeii, Venice…By the time she was done I was exhausted, and I hadn’t even set foot outside the house.
My way of travelling is different. I just pick a destination and then go there, leaving things to chance. This may not be for everybody, but leaping into the unknown, for me, has been great.
Take Greenland, for example: I found myself in a tiny village of just 40 people, with no place to stay. The locals welcomed me warmly, and I enjoyed a delightful supper with an Inuit family, completed with fantastic stories never found in guidebooks.
A few years back, driving through Iceland, I noticed an older woman sitting at a picnic table by a waterfall. I approached her, and asked if I could sit with her. She turned out to be a source of knowledge about the area, which we had all to ourselves, without a tourist in sight.
Wandering in Trinidad, I got on a coastal ship. On the way, a young woman talked to me and gave me a tip for a visit to a hidden local restaurant with delicious and affordable food. There, I enjoyed the meal surrounded by the relaxing local music.
As a teacher, I encourage my students to travel. Most of them have never gone outside; others even never left their hometown. In many cases, they express a sense of fear, of going someplace where they won’t know anybody. I try to remove their anxieties by sharing my own travel experiences, and the message that there are good people everywhere, and friendships are waiting to be started.
I once read a piece about regrets that people expressed later in their lives. One that struck me was, “I wish I had taken more chances.” Setting off little planning does mean taking a risk, but for me, it is rewarding.
24.Why did the author mention her friend’s travel plan
A.To recommend some best spots in Italy. B.To express her unconcern of friend’s plan.
C.To introduce her different way of traveling. D.To show her tiredness of making travel plans.
25.What can you learn from the author’s travel experiences
A.She visited a village with large population in Greenland.
B.She learnt fascinating stories about Inuit from guidebooks.
C.She saw the waterfall advised by an old woman in Iceland.
D.She enjoyed a meal in a local hidden restaurant in Trinidad.
26.What mainly stops the author’s students from traveling
A.Their lack of money. B.Their fear of unfamiliar places.
C.Their dislike of travelling abroad. D.Their inability to leave hometown.
27.What would be the best title for the passage
A.Friendships Start in Trips B.A Man is Rewarded with Plans
C.Travels Unprepared Bring Surprise D.Chances Favor the Focused Minds
C
After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make a difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance — curiosity and discontent. I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I have never known an average man who had both.
Together, these deep human urges (驅策力) count for much more than ambition. Galileo was not merely ambitious when he dropped objects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at Pisa and timed their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”
Fortunately, curiosity and discontent don’t have to be learned. We are born with them and need only to recapture them. “The great man,” said Mencius, “is he who does not lose his child’s heart.” Yet most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd. And the crowd desires only the calm and restful average.
Most of us meet new people, and new ideas, with hesitation. But once having met and liked them, we think how terrible it would have been, had we missed the chance. We will probably have to force ourselves to waken our curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.
How should you start The way to begin is to answer your own excuses. You haven’t any special ability Most people don’t; there are only a few geniuses. You haven’t any time That’s good, because it’s always the people with no time who get things done. Harriet Stowe, mother of six, wrote parts of Uncle Tom’s Cabin while cooking. You’re too old Remember that Thomas Costain was 57 when he published his first novel, and that Grandma Moses showed her first pictures when she was 78.
However you start, remember there is no better time to start than right now, for you’ll never be more alive than you are at this moment.
28.In writing Paragraph 1, the author aims to ________.
A.present an argument B.make a comparison
C.reach a conclusion D.propose a definition
29.What does the example of Galileo tell us
A.Scientists tend to have varied ambitions. B.Trial and error leads to the finding of truth.
C.Creativity results from challenging authority. D.Greatness comes from a lasting desire to explore.
30.What can you do to recapture curiosity and discontent
A.Observe the unknown around you. B.Develop a questioning mind.
C.Lead a life of adventure. D.Follow the fashion.
31.What can we learn from the last two paragraphs
A.Gaining success helps you become an expert.
B.The genius tends to get things done creatively.
C.Lack of talent and time is no reason for taking no action.
D.You should remain modest when approaching perfection.
D
There are 7 billion people in this world, with 7 billion different opinions about outer beauty. What you may find physically attractive can be an absolute eyesore to someone else and vice versa. And this is truly magical because it implies that regardless of a person’s physical features (特點), there is always going to be someone out there who finds them appealing.
Nowadays there are many ways you can manipulate the way you look. Plastic surgery (整形) and other cosmetic procedures are becoming more and more accessible and affordable. This is absolutely incredible for people who really need body changes to improve their mental health.
Sadly, with social media being a massive part of our lives, far too many people are struggling with self-image issues not because there is something wrong with them, but because they are convinced they need to look a certain way to be accepted by society. So they delve into (鉆研) the world of plastic surgery and they slowly lose their identities in order to fit in.
In reality, what we should be encouraging is not altering our bodies, but remodeling our mindset. We should become more aware of the way we treat others and ourselves. We should be inspired to learn more languages, so we can dive into different cultures and expand our limits. Instead of spending money on looking like someone else, spend time in becoming the best version of yourself, because outer beauty fades, but the beauty within is timeless.
As noted by the book A Conscious Rethink, when asked about what traits (特性) they look for in a potential long-term partner, most people name things that have nothing to do with physical appearance. Some of the features we seek the most are Kindness, Loyalty, Patience, Integrity, A good sense of humor, and A supportive nature.
All of these traits can be found in anyone, regardless of the outer beauty they possess. More importantly, these are personality characteristics we seek in those we see as our potential life partners, meaning that we value them more than we value a pretty face.
32. What does the underlined word "manipulate” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Check. B. Maintain.
C. Manage. D. Appreciate.
33. Why are many people seeking plastic surgery nowadays according to the text
A. To fit in with society. B. To indicate their identities.
C. To improve their mental health. D. To cover their physical disability.
34. What’s one feature of inner beauty according to the author
A. It’s long-lasting. B. It can be measured.
C. It’s a natural-born thing. D. It varies from culture to culture.
35. Which topic does A Conscious Rethink probably cover
A. Adventure. B. Relationship.
C. Entertainment. D. Healthcare.

I knew healing my relationship with Dad was vital, but how to go about it was another story. At the time the gulf between us seemed insurmountable My feelings of being criticized and rejected by Dad were my deepest wound.
In my early years I was the apple of his eye, and he was a hero in my childhood. We played sports and games, and often went fishing together.
As adolescence approached, however, everything changed. It became clear that I was determined to forge my own path, one completely different from his expectation. In school I was having behavioral problems, being a class joker and breaking all the rules. And having my parents read my school report was a nightmare for me. Sometimes I was punished. Their disapproval made me feel even worse. Punishments only added to the hurt.
My dad had no idea how to deal with me. He became silent and distant, setting a wall and pretending that he didn’t care. That was even more painful to me than my mother’s voiced disapproval. I hated him for that, and pretended that I didn’t want anything to do with him. We lived under the same roof, but we were a thousand miles away from each other.
I continued to have trouble with school until the time I chose to drop out and pursue my interests in music. I became totally focused on my spiritual growth, which sent shivers (寒顫) through my father’s mind. There were many hard feelings between us, feelings that hardened as time went by.
For much of my twenties, I went about my life without much of a relationship with my dad. We had stopped trying to change each other, but the walls remained, thick and cold between us.
Things all began changing four years after mom told me it was time to deal with Dad. Hesitant for a long time, I finally took her advice and wrote my father a letter.
