T leads students to recall their experiences of reciting a poem in front of people.T: Most of us have recited a poem at some point in our lives. I’d like you to share your stories with us!2. T asks them to think about the benefits of performing a poetry recital.T: Looking back on your experiences, what have you learnt from the poetry recital What are the differences between reading the poems by yourself and reciting them as a performance How did it benefit you 【設計意圖:以討論分享導入,讓學生結合自身經歷熟悉詩朗誦的形式,思考詩朗誦最關鍵之處,要求學生具備什么樣的能力,以便下一步的學習。】Step 2 Choosing a poem for your recitalT leads Ss to discuss their favourite poems and gives Ss instructions on how to choose the poem suitable for recital.T: Next, please list your three favourite poems and think about these questions: Which one is the most suitable for you to recite What will the most memorable poetry performance be like When choosing your poem, ask yourself: Have I clearly understood the theme of the poem Have I managed the complexity of this poem well What is the emotion expressed by the poet Only when you have clear answers to these questions can you make your choice.【設計意圖:讓學生分享各自喜歡的詩歌,培養對語言美和文化美的欣賞;幫助學生探索作者的情感是如何在詩歌這一文學體裁中通過語言和韻律傳遞的。】Step 3 Practicing reciting the poem1. Understand your poemT helps Ss to analyse the content and the structure, especially pay attention to the rhythm. Use the given poem “If” as an example. Share some background information of the poem with Ss.T: Do you know the story behind this poem What’s the theme of the poem T: It is a poem written by Kipling to his 12-year-old son. This poem is so inspiring that many people, especially teenagers, often use it to encourage themselves to move forward.2. Memorize your poemT gives advice on how to memorize a poem.T: John Hollander says, “We speak of memorizing as getting something ‘by heart’ which really means ‘by head’. But getting a poem or prose passage truly ‘by heart’ implies getting it by mind and memory and understanding and delight.”3. Recite your poemT divides Ss into groups and encourages them to present their recital.T: Practice reciting the poem within your group. When one member is reciting, the other members act as audience and offers advice and suggestions on how to improve the performance.4. Tasks for each member during group workGM 1: be the reciterGM 2: tear down or question every aspect of the recitalGM 3: help classify those criticismsGM 4: be less critical and more concerned with the creativity5.
