Learning Objectives
Understand and apply special interrogative sentences guided by "what", "where", and "why".
Understand and apply causal adverbial clauses guided by "because" to express their preferences and dislikes for animals.
Master the singular and plural forms of common animal nouns and their usage.
Know the characteristics of each animal and play an animal guessing game.
Cultivate love for animals and enhance the awareness of protecting them.
Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes)
Show a video of animals and ask students:
"What animals can you see in the video "
Encourage students to answer in English.
Display pictures of animals such as monkeys, penguins, giraffes, etc., and ask:
"Do you like these animals Why or why not "
Introduce the key grammar point "because" and its usage.
Step 2: Presentation and Practice (20 minutes)
Grammar Focus on "because"
（1）Present sentences from the Grammar Focus and ask students to circle the word "because".
（2）Guide students to observe the sentence structure and summarize the usage of "because".
Examples: "Why do you like dogs Because they are friendly."
"Why doesn't she like cats Because they are too lazy."
（3）Let students imitate the examples and create their own sentences.
Nouns: Singular and Plural Forms
（1）Show pictures or real objects to compare singular and plural forms of nouns.
（2）Explain the rules of noun pluralization, including regular changes (e.g., adding "-s") and irregular changes (e.g., "sheep - sheep").
（3）Have students practice converting singular nouns to plural forms and vice versa.
（4）Highlight common mistakes, such as "foxes", "mice", "whales", etc.
Special Interrogative Sentences
（5）Review the usage of "what", "where", and "why" to guide special interrogative sentences.
（6）Provide examples and let students practice forming and answering special interrogative sentences.
Step 3: Dialogue Practice (15 minutes)
Group students into pairs and distribute dialogue practice materials.
Let students practice the dialogue and emphasize the use of the target grammar and vocabulary.
Invite a few pairs to present their dialogues, and let other students listen, evaluate, and provide feedback.
Step 4: Fill-in-the-Blank Exercise (10 minutes)
Display sentences on the board that contain nouns in both singular and plural forms, as well as special interrogative sentences.
Ask students to fill in the blanks with the correct forms of nouns and complete the sentences.
Review and correct the answers together, emphasizing key points.
Step 5: Animal Guessing Game (10 minutes)
Divide students into groups and let one student from each group think of an animal.
The other students in the group ask questions to guess the animal, using the target grammar and vocabulary (e.g., "Is the animal big " "Does it come from Africa ").
Continue until the animal is guessed correctly, then switch roles.
Encourage students to use the grammar and vocabulary learned in class during the game.
Step 6: Assignment (5 minutes)
Review the main content of the class, including "because" clauses, noun pluralization rules, and special interrogative sentences.
Emphasize key and difficult points and provide positive feedback on students' performance.
