Step 1 Welcome to the unit
1. T greets the class.
T: Class begins, boys and girls! Good morning/afternoon!
T: Open your book at page 43. Let’s have a look at the picture on this page. What do you see on it
T: Right. The Great Wall, one of the largest building-construction projects ever undertaken.
T: Look through a few more pictures in this unit and you’ll know something about the topic of the unit: protecting our heritage sites.
2. T asks Ss to watch a video carefully and finish the exercises.
T: Watch the video and finish the exercises on page 43.
3. T exhibits the video script.

Step 2 Warming up before reading
T asks Ss to answer two questions.
T: This lecture transcript is about some of the heritage sites facing serous dangers. Before you read the lecture transcript, think about two questions.
What historic or natural sites are there in your area
What dangers do you think cultural and natural heritage sites are faced with

Step 3 Reading for the theme and structure
1. T asks Ss to finish A1.
T: Now read through the lecture transcript quickly and finish A1 at page 46.
2. T asks Ss to answer two questions.
(1) Which is the best subtitle of para. 2 and para. 3

(2) How does the author mainly develop the lecture transcript

Step 4 Reading for the detailed information
1. T asks Ss to finish A2.
T: Now read through the lecture transcript carefully and answer the questions in A2.
2. T asks Ss to answer two questions.
(1) What can we know from the lecture transcript
A. Warm seawater temperatures destroy seas’ natural ecology.
B. Too much visiting does harm to the temples of Angkor.
C. A big earthquake destroyed the whole city of Bam in 2003.
