Clara: Because the new year is a time for cleaning and washing away bad
things. Then you’ll have good luck in the new year.

(1) I wonder if …是一個表示請求允許的交際用語，常用來詢問對方
是否允許自己做某事。

①對I wonder if …做肯定回答可用：
Sure, go ahead. 好的，請吧。 Of course./Sure. 當然可以。
②對I wonder if …做否定回答可用：
I’m sorry, but … 對不起，但是……
I’m afraid not. 恐怕不行。 You’d better not. 你最好不要。
(2) be similar to意為 “與……相似”。其中 similar 為形容詞，意為 “相似的”，
無比較級。
e.g. A cat is similar to a tiger in many ways. 貓與虎在很多方面相似。
e.g. Cats and tigers have similar features. 貓和虎有類似的特征。
