過去進行時
一、概念
表示過去某個時間點或時間段正在進行的動作。
二、構成
（一）肯定句
主語 + was/were + 動詞的現在分詞 + 其他。
I was reading a book at 8 o'clock last night.（昨晚八點我正在讀書。）
She was singing in the classroom when I came in.（我進來的時候她正在教室里唱歌。）
They were playing basketball from 3 to 5 yesterday afternoon.（昨天下午三點到五點他們正在打籃球。）
（二）否定句
主語 + was/were + not + 動詞的現在分詞 + 其他。
I was not reading a book at 8 o'clock last night.（昨晚八點我沒在讀書。）
She was not singing in the classroom when I came in.（我進來的時候她沒在教室里唱歌。）
They were not playing basketball from 3 to 5 yesterday afternoon.（昨天下午三點到五點他們沒在打籃球。）
（三）一般疑問句
Was/Were + 主語 + 動詞的現在分詞 + 其他？
Were you reading a book at 8 o'clock last night （昨晚八點你正在讀書嗎？）
Was she singing in the classroom when I came in （我進來的時候她正在教室里唱歌嗎？）
Were they playing basketball from 3 to 5 yesterday afternoon （昨天下午三點到五點他們正在打籃球嗎？）
（四）特殊疑問句
特殊疑問詞 + was/were + 主語 + 動詞的現在分詞 + 其他？
What were you doing at 8 o'clock last night （昨晚八點你正在做什么？）
Where was she singing when I came in （我進來的時候她正在哪里唱歌？）
Who were they playing basketball with from 3 to 5 yesterday afternoon （昨天下午三點到五點他們正在和誰打籃球？）
三、動詞現在分詞的變化規則（同現在進行時）
（一）一般情況下，直接在動詞原形后加 -ing。
play - playing
read - reading
watch - watching
（二）以不發音的字母 e 結尾的動詞，去掉 e，再加 -ing。
come - coming
make - making
write - writing
（三）以重讀閉音節結尾，末尾只有一個輔音字母的動詞，先雙寫這個輔音字母，再加 -ing。
run - running
stop - stopping
swim - swimming
（四）以 ie 結尾的動詞，把 ie 變為 y，再加 -ing。
lie - lying
die - dying
tie - tying
四、常見標志詞
at 8 o'clock last night（昨晚八點）、when I came in（當我進來的時候）、from 3 to 5 yesterday afternoon（昨天下午三點到五點）等表示過去具體時間點或時間段的短語。
五、用法
（一）過去某個時間點正在進行的動作
常與表示過去的具體時間點連用，如 at 9:00 last Sunday（上周日九點）、at noon yesterday（昨天中午）等。
My mother was cooking dinner at 6 o'clock yesterday evening.（昨天晚上六點我媽媽正在做晚飯。）
（二）過去時間段內持續進行的動作
常與表示過去一段時間的短語連用，如 from 8 to 10 this morning（今天上午八點到十點）、the whole morning yesterday（昨天整個上午）等。
They were cleaning the classroom the whole afternoon yesterday.（昨天整個下午他們都在打掃教室。）
（三）用于 when 和 while 引導的時間狀語從句
when 引導的從句，動詞既可以是短暫性動詞（用一般過去時），也可以是延續性動詞（用過去進行時）。從句動作發生時，主句動作正在進行。
When the teacher came in, we were talking.（老師進來的時候，我們正在講話。）
while 引導的從句，動詞必須是延續性動詞（用過去進行時），強調主句和從句的動作同時進行。
While I was reading, my sister was watching TV.（我讀書的時候，我妹妹正在看電視。）

（一）用所給動詞的適當形式填空

（二）將下列句子改為否定句
He was doing his homework at 9 o'clock last night.
They were dancing at the party when I arrived.
（三）對劃線部分提問
She was reading a storybook at 8 o'clock yesterday evening.（對 reading a storybook 提問）
They were playing football on the playground at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.（對 on the playground 提問）
