Step one Lead in 8’ Show the Ss some pictures: What the teacher has done; What the teacher did at a specific pare the pictures and sense the difference between present perfect and simple past. Introduce the present perfect by comparison.
Show sentences that describe these pictures. Observe the sentences and conclude the structure of present perfect: have done Lead in the structure.
Step two Present perfect 15’ Judge true from false. Jack’s father is still in that company. Peter will have a job interview soon. Mary’s father is still in that company. Sara is sure that the application form is on Linda’s table. Read the following statements and judge. Jack: My father has been in this company for 30 years. Peter: I’ve just had a job interview. Mary: My father has been to that company. Sara: I have put the Application form on Linda’s table. Help the Ss experience the usage of present perfect.
Oral task: A: Have you taken a part-time job B: Yes, I have taken two part-time jobs. / No, I haven’t taken any part-time jobs. Take turns to ask and answer questions by using “have you ever done…. ” A: Have you ever done… B: Yes, I have… Put present perfect into practical use.
Written task: Complete the letter with given information. Dear..., … Yours, Mary Connect the words and make sentences. Learn to write sentences by using present perfect.
Step three Vocabulary 22’ Guide the Ss to classify the words about different jobs in different fields: kindergarten teacher, primary school teacher, doctor, dentist, nurse, pilot, bus driver, taxi driver, boss, marketing assistant, sales manager Classify the words about jobs in different fields. Learn to remember words by classifying them in different groups.
Guide the Ss to know the usage of the following words’ n & v forms: interview, experience, contact, To master the following collocations: Have a job interview Interview 200 applicants Have working experience Experience lots of difficulty Have contact with Contact someone at… Help the Ss know that one word can have different meanings, and can also have different natures and usages.
Step Four Unit task Prepare for a job fair 40’ Introduce the task: You and your classmates are to hold a job fair. Brainstorm the positions: electrician, welder, teacher and so on. Think about the job position you want. The Ss who are interested in the same job positions sit together and form a group. Be clear about the task.
Guide the Ss to decide at least 3 qualifications of application for the position. Work together and write out the qualities needed for the position. Help the Ss think about what kind of qualities different jobs need.
Guide the Ss to design a job advertisement for this position. Design the job ad and complete the poster. Consider what a good job ad should include.
Guide the Ss to prepare interview questions. Think about interview questions. To review what they have learned in this unit.
Guide the Ss to hold the job fair. Show the posters. Hand out job ads. Prepare resumes for the job positions they are interested in Experience how to hunt a job.
Hand in resumes. Interview the applicants.
Step Five Summary 5’ Offer the Ss five minutes to ask questions about difficult point in this unit. Ask questions if there are problems they still don’t understand. Learn to reflect and ask questions.
