One evening, while working at the convenience store in my neighborhood, I noticed a young girl, about 8 years old, who looked very tired, carrying several bags. Concerned about her well-being, I approached her and asked if she needed any help. She told me that she was waiting for a friend and felt a bit lost in the area.
Seeing her young face and the tiredness in her eyes, I decided to buy her some food and water. I invited her to stay inside the store until her friend arrived, ensuring that it was safer inside. She agreed and seemed glad to have a place to rest.
As we chatted, she mentioned that she was planning to meet up with her neighbour, one of her best friends. They were planning a little adventure around town. I could see that she was excited but also a bit nervous about the plan.
Wanting to ensure her safety, I softly asked if she had told her parents about her whereabouts(行蹤). She admitted that she hadn’t. I explained to her how important it was to let her parents know where she was, so they wouldn’t worry about her.
“Do you think I should call them now ” she asked, looking uncertain.
“Yes, I think that’s a good idea,” I replied. “They’ll be relieved to know you’re safe.”
“But I can’t remember their telephone numbers,” she said helplessly.
I decided to call a policeman I knew well, who often patrolled (巡邏) our area. The policeman arrived quickly and dealt with the situation with great care. He spoke kindly to the girl, asking her about her plans and her friend. He told her the importance of staying safe and keeping her parents informed.
Some minutes later, the girl’s neighbour, an older girl, arrived. The policeman spoke to them about the possible dangers of wandering (閑逛) around town. He encouraged them to call their parents and let them know they were safe. Luckily, the older girl remembered her mother’s telephone number well. The policeman soon got in touch with her mother.
