Winter is coming-do you feel down more often If so, you may have seasonal affective disorder(季節(jié)性情緒失調(diào)). It is short for SAD.

Besides feeling sad, people with SAD may also lose interest in everyday activities. They may sleep a lot and find it hard to get up in the morning. It can also be difficult for them to focus.
Scientists still don’t know the reason behind SAD. But it’s often connected to less sunlight during the shorter autumn and winter days, the UK National Health Service (NHS) said. Not getting enough sunlight might make a part of the brain not work well. This can influence (影響) your hormones(荷爾蒙) and body clock. All of these things make you feel blue.
Getting more sunlight and exercising are good ways to deal with SAD. “Light therapy(療法)”, or using special lamps at home to simulate (仿造)natural light, can also help. But if you still feel very sad, you should go to a doctor, said the NHS.

Language students often think they have memory problems. They worry because they can’t remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn’t connected with their memory. 37
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. When you see, hear or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. 38 You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many books. And like a library, it’s organized (有條理的). When you put away a book or memory, you can’t just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
39 The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences that include it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know. Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is height, you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. 40 They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.
A. How can you do this with words B. Why will we improve our memory C. The problem is connected with how they study. D. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. E. All of these activities are good ways to think about words.
