2.Identify the useful patterns and expressions from the reading text and use the target language to express themselves.
教學過程設計
Step 1 Lead-in
Teacher:Get students to share their feelingsas a freshman at senior high school and what they want to know about school life in other countries.
·Students: Talk about their senior high school life and what they are eager to know about school life in foreign countries.
(設計意圖:導入環節以學生視角來設置問題,從認識自我過渡到了解他人,貼近中學生生活,并且能夠激發他們了解國外同齡人學習和生活的好奇心,為接下來的閱讀任務做好鋪墊。)

Step Il Discourse analysis
* Teacher:Get everyone to figure out the discourse pattern of the whole passage and paragraphs as well.
* Students: Dig into the whole text,find the topics and share the related details from it.
(設計意圖:學生借助6T的語篇分析模式,深入思考語篇主題與內容。)
注:6T指Text(語篇),Task(任務),Topic(話題),Thread(線索),Transition(過渡),Theme(主題)。
Guided questions:
1.What can you guess from the title

3.What is the topic sentence of each paragraph
4.How did Adam deal with his challenges
Suggested answers:
1.From the title,we can guess the passage is mainly about the challenges as a freshman and how to deal with the challenges.
2.Four paris.
3.Paragraph 1:Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge.
Paragraph 2:I had to think very carefully about which courses I wanted to take.
Paragraph 3:I had to choose extra-curricular activities.
Paragraph 4:I know I'll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more.
4.The school adviser helped him choose the suitable courses.

Step III Pragmatic analysis
* Teacher:Let students analyse the pragmatic value of the text through different angles.
* Students: Read and infer the writing purpose and the intended readers.

Step IV Topic-related lexis
* Teacher: Help students look for the lexical chain under the guidance o the given topic.
* Students:Look for related phrases in the text and make a list of lexis.

Step V Creative thinking
