Definition:
定語從句:修飾限制名詞、代詞的從句,常常跟在其修飾限制的名詞代詞后。
先行詞:被定語從句修飾限制的那個(gè)名詞或代詞。
關(guān)系詞:引導(dǎo)定語從句的詞。分為:關(guān)系代詞和關(guān)系副詞。
關(guān)系代詞:who whom whose that which as
關(guān)系副詞:when where why
關(guān)系詞的作用:
1.引導(dǎo)定語從句
2.代替先行詞
3.在定語從句中充當(dāng)一個(gè)成分。

Ask Ss to find out the attributives sentences in the text in Activity 8. Instruct Ss to attend to the structure. Invite Ss translate those sentences and find out the antecedents.

關(guān)系代詞:
That :用于先行詞是人或者物時(shí),可充當(dāng)主語、賓語、表語、狀語
Which:用于先行詞是物或主句整體內(nèi)容時(shí),可充當(dāng)主語、賓語、定語
Who:用于先行詞是人時(shí),可充當(dāng)主語、賓語
Whom:用于先行詞是人時(shí),可充當(dāng)賓語
Whose: 用于先行詞是人或者物時(shí),可充當(dāng)定語
As:用于先行詞是人或者物或主句整體內(nèi)容時(shí),可充當(dāng)主語、賓語
關(guān)系副詞:
When:用于先行詞是時(shí)間時(shí),充當(dāng)狀語
Where:用于先行詞是地點(diǎn)時(shí),充當(dāng)狀語
Why:用于先行詞是原因時(shí),充當(dāng)狀語
Restrictive attributive clause and non-restrictive attributive clause
限制性定語從句:形式上不用逗號(hào)和主句隔開,是先行詞不可或缺的部分,去掉它的意思往往不明確,翻譯成先行詞的定語,“……的……”。
非限制性定語從句:是先行詞的附加說明,去掉了也不影響主句意思,它于主句間通常用逗號(hào)隔開,通常翻譯成主句的并列句。
Eg.
His brother who is now a lawyer always encourages him to go to college.
他那個(gè)現(xiàn)在是律師的哥哥總是鼓勵(lì)他上大學(xué)。(他還有其他哥哥)
His brother ,who is now a lawyer , always encourages him to go to college.
他的哥哥,現(xiàn)在是律師,總是鼓勵(lì)他上大學(xué)。
