3.辨析awake與wake
(1)awake作形容詞,意為“醒著的”,通常作表語。其反義詞為asleep。?
e.g.:Is he asleep or awake 他睡著了還是醒著的??
The boy is awake.那男孩醒了。?
(2)wake作動(dòng)詞,意為“醒來;喚醒;弄醒”。常用結(jié)構(gòu):sb. wake(s) up某人醒來;wake sb. up喚醒某人。?
e.g.:The noise woke me up.噪音把我吵醒了。?
I wake up at half past six every morning.每天早上六點(diǎn)半我就醒了。

(1)another意為“另一;又一”,常放在數(shù)詞之前;而other表示“另一”時(shí),則放在數(shù)詞之后。another+基數(shù)詞+名詞=基數(shù)詞+other+名詞。
e.g.:We stayed there for another three days.
=We stayed there for three other days.我們?cè)谀莾河执巳臁?br/>(2)or so意為“大約”,位于數(shù)詞或者表示時(shí)間的名詞之后,相當(dāng)于about 或around,但about 或around表示“大約”時(shí),常放在數(shù)詞或者表示時(shí)間的名詞之前。
e.g.:It took them three years or so to build this road.=It took them about/around three years to build this road.修這條路花費(fèi)了他們大約三年的時(shí)間。
5.辨析die of與die from
“die of”和“die from”都是“死于……”的意思。若死因存在于人體之上或之內(nèi)(主要指疾病、衰老等自身的原因),一般用介詞of,如:die of illness (heart trouble,cancer,a fever,etc.) 死于疾病 (心臟病,癌癥,發(fā)燒等)。若死因不是存在人體之內(nèi)或之上,而是由環(huán)境造成的(主要指事故等方面的外部原因),一般用介詞from,如:die from an earthquake (a traffic accident,a lightning stroke,etc.)死于地震(交通事故,雷擊等)。若死因是環(huán)境影響到體內(nèi),即兩方面共有的原因,則用of,from 均可,如:die of a drink (a wound,overwork,starvation,hunger and cold,etc.) 死于飲酒(受傷,勞累過度,饑餓,饑寒等)。但是在實(shí)際運(yùn)用中,兩者混用的情況較多。
