新中國當(dāng)時剛成立不久,提出將珠峰一分為二,南面屬尼泊爾,北面屬中國。但尼泊爾聲稱珠峰是屬于尼泊爾的,與中國無關(guān),理由很簡單,“貴國從未爬上過北坡”。而尼泊爾人Tenzing Norgay和新西蘭人Edmund Hilliary于1953年從南側(cè)率先登上了珠峰,成為了世界上第一支成功登頂?shù)年犖椋?dāng)時的中國無人登上珠峰。這也為尼泊爾同我國談判時增加了最大的籌碼。
在1956年,中國組建了第一支登山隊,終于在1960年5月25日凌晨4點20分,隊員王富洲、貢布、屈銀華將五星紅旗穩(wěn)穩(wěn)地插上珠穆朗瑪峰,完成了人類歷史上首次從北坡登頂珠峰的壯舉
登頂珠峰并不是心血來潮去爬個山頭那么簡單,當(dāng)時有著復(fù)雜的國際背景。“活著上去,活著下來”,它考驗的不光是國家的決心和登山運(yùn)動員的勇氣,還考驗著國家的科技水平、氣象水平、后勤保障水平等方方面面。
