My Dream Job
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It’s my honor to be here to deliver a speech. The topic is “my dream job”.
I want to be a medical worker. First of all, it is a job to treat patients. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, thousands of medical workers have devoted themselves to the well-being of humans, winning respect from society. Besides, even facing big challenges or threats to life, they never give up and keep fighting to the end, which fuels my passion for joining them. Such is the job that I have been dreaming of all the time.
From now on, I will stick to my dream and spare no efforts to make it come true. That’s all! Thank you for listening!
第二節
He rushed to Francis, excited to tell him his plan. “Francis, you can use my skates in the race tomorrow!” Andy yelled, eyes shining with hope. Francis hesitated. Noticing that, Andy explained that having him on their team would not only boost their chances of winning but also help him make more friends. Eventually, Francis put on the roller-skates and skated around, his talent instantly impressing the captain who was nearby. Struck by Francis’ excellent skills, the captain agreed to include the new boy. At that moment, Andy felt a touch of emptiness for giving up his own chance, but a surge of excitement for the plan as well.
The next day, the race began as scheduled. Francis, wearing Andy’s skates, stood at the starting line, looking determined, while Andy, from the sidelines, felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness. The race was intense, but Francis’ excellent skating skills helped the Sunnysiders finally win the race. Once the race was finished, Francis, now part of the team, skated over to Andy with the others. Together, they lifted Andy onto their shoulders, celebrating not just the victory but also the newfound friendships. Cheers filled the air, and Andy experienced a swell of pride and a profound sense of accomplishment for the success of his friend and the team.賀州一高2025年春季學期高三英語開學考試題

In late December, I went for a hike with my two daughters. And by hike I mean we walked, climbed and slid for five hours through a thick, wet mountainous area of Costa Rican jungle to get to what promised to be a splendid waterfall.
My daughters are active and strong. And I thought I was too. But it became pretty obvious as we went on that while we were all falling and covered with mud, laughing at how absurd it was, they got up more quickly and kept our guide more easily. I was always the slowest and the sweatiest.
They’d wait for me if I got too far back, watching as I picked my way toward them. It reminded me of the first glimpse I had of my mom as someone weaker than I, like when she started to get out of breath walking across parking lots. It’s a slow change that happens gradually over decades, until one day you’re your mother’s mother making sure she eats dinner.
When the girls and I finally got to that waterfall, it was indeed wonderful: a 40-feet wall of water crashing down with such energy that we had to shout above the noise. We took off a few wet clothes and jumped into the deep pool at the base. It was shocking, not because of coolness of the water, but because of the force of the current.
After a long time of trying hard to get closer to the base of the waterfall, we were tired and gathered up our stuff, arguing over who would return with the heaviest pack. I did not get a pass due to age. Hadn’t they seen me struggling back there Instead I was accused of being “able-bodied”. As we set off, back in formation, the girls climbed just ahead of me, talking excitedly about something I couldn’t quite make out above the noise in nature.
Of course, that’s what every generation hopes for the next—that they’ll be able to take care of each other without you, that when you slowdown, they’ll have each other.

27.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text
A.To stress the importance of family. B.To remember her mother.

Machines equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) have performed better than human beings in a high-level test of reading comprehension.
Two natural language processing tools received higher test scores than humans in recent exams. One of the tools is a product of the American software maker Microsoft. The other was created by the Chinese online seller Alibaba Group.
Alibaba reported its success earlier this month. The company said that a deep-learning model developed by its Institute of Data Science of Technologies was the first to beat a human score in the reading comprehension test.
The test is called the Stanford Question Answering Dataset. It was developed by researchers at Stanford University in California. The test has over 100,000 questions and answers. They are based on information found in over 500 stories from the Wikipedia website. The answers to all the questions come from the reading material.
The AI-powered machines were tested on whether they could provide exact answers to the questions after processing large amounts of information.
Alibaba said its deep neural network model received an “Exact Match” score of 82.44 on the Stanford test. Microsoft reported that a team at Microsoft Research Asia had a score of 82.65.It said the human score on the same questions and answers was 82.304. Microsoft and Alibaba were tied for first place on a list of the top performers on the Stanford test. Many research organizations also appeared on the list—all with scores below 82.
Alibaba said it has already used its reading comprehension model in different parts of its business. For example, the company is using machines to answer many incoming telephone calls from customers. The company says in the future, the technology could enable machines to guide visitors through museums or provide advice to medical patients.
Microsoft said its success in the reading test marks an important development for artificial intelligence and its reading abilities. Microsoft said it has already used its AI methods in its Bing search engine and the Cortana digital assistant. The company said in a blog post that it believes the technology will lead to easier, more natural communication between people and machines in the future.
28.How did the AI-powered machines find the answers
A.By analyzing plenty of information. B.By working with other tools.
C.By downloading reading materials. D.By searching the Internet.
29.What can we infer from the text
A.Alibaba and Microsoft didn’t compete in the test at the same time.
B.Only two research organizations joined the test.
C.Alibaba is using the technology to provide suggestions on medicine.
D.Before Microsoft no AI-power machine could beat a human scores.
30.Which one is equipped with the AI methods
A.Stanford Question Answering Dataset. B.Microsoft Research Asia.
C.The Cortana digital assistant. D.Alibaba search engine.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.An Overall Victory of AI. B.Alibaba VS Microsoft.
C.The Achievement of Alibaba and Microsoft. D.AI Beats Humans in Major Reading Test.
D
Wildlife researchers in Georgia and Florida are concerned about the population of endangered whales. The winter birthing season just ended, but no newborn sightings have been reported.
At present, there are only about 450 North Atlantic right whales according to calculation.
Last year, the number of right whale deaths was greater than the number of births. In the U.S. and Canada, there were 17 right whale deaths recorded, while only five right whale births were reported.
Research on the whales has found that most female right whales are only living to half their expected years. Research on the whales that gave birth last year showed that they were having babies for the first time in seven or eight years. That is more than double the usual time between pregnancies.
Philip Hamilton is a scientist at the New England Aquarium in Boston. Hamilton has studied right whales for 30 years. He said, “Following a year of such great number of deaths, it’s clear that the increase of the population can’t be guaranteed.”
This is why researchers are saying more needs to be done to protect the species.
Examinations of the 17 bodies showed that a ship had hit at least four of the right whales. Another two of the deaths were caused by fishing equipment.
Philip Hamilton called for more restrictions on the fishing industry. Placing speed restrictions on ships in certain areas will help protect the whales further.
However, there is still hope for the right whale population.
Charles Mayo is a right whale researcher in Provincetown, Massachusetts at the Center for Coastal Studies. Mayo remains hopeful about the possibility that right whale babies were born this season a little further north, as far up as Virginia’s coast.
In Cape Cod Bay last year, two calves (幼崽) were seen that had not been seen earlier in the south.
It is also possible that after a light birthing season this year, a baby boom could happen next year. This has happened before. In 2000, only one newborn birth occurred while in the following year there were 31 births.
Mayo said, “I do think we can turn this around. But what’s our will power to do so This is a time for all to work together.”
32.What is the text mainly about
A.The reasons for the right whale’s low birthrate.
B.The need to be done to protect the right whale.
C.The hope for the right whale population.
D.Wild life experts’ worry about lack of newborn right whales.
33.What mainly leads to the death of the right whale according to the text
A.An unexpectedly shorter lifetime.
B.The high speed of the fishing ships.
C.A longer cycle of the pregnancies.
D.The decrease of the number of births.
34.What is likely to happen next year
A.More baby whales can be seen in Virginia’s coast. B.The birthrate may grow sharply.
C.31 calves will be born. D.The birthing season will be earlier.
35.What is Mayo’s attitude towards the situation
A.Positive. B.Uncertain.
C.Worried. D.Indifferent.

The boys in the block were going to have a roller-skating (滑旱冰) race next Saturday. They were divided into two teams: the Sunnysiders and the Shadysiders, with five boys on each team. Andy was on the Sunnysiders. They lost last year, so they were desperate to win this time. But Andy knew his short legs made it hard for him to skate fast.
One day, Andy was greeted by a pleasant “Hello” as he was putting on his roller-skates. He looked up and saw his new neighbor, Francis. “Hello!” he replied cheerfully, noticing his neighbor’s long legs. “Do you want to skate with me Look at your long legs! Just the right kind to make you a good skater.” “I’d love to. You know, I’m really good at roller skating and I used to help my team win.” Francis said, his tone now heavy with sadness. “But I lost my roller skates and my mom just cannot afford to buy me another pair.”
Andy thought it was a shame for Francis. As a new comer, there were undoubtedly many moments when he must have felt lonely. Andy thought to himself, wondering what he could do for Francis. But he had to say goodbye in a hurry since the team were meeting in the open space on the corner to talk over some plans.
When talking to the team captain, Andy suggested adding another boy to their team, Francis. But the captain said “No” as the team knew nothing about him. Besides, the Shadysiders wouldn’t let them take on an extra player.
In the following days, Andy practiced very hard with his team. Then came the day before the race when he saw Francis on the sidewalk. Watching them skate past, his eyes filled with a sense of loss. Somehow it upset Andy, and his desire to help his new neighbor resurfaced. Then he thought of a way that could not only help his team win, but help Francis fit in.
