Background
張桂梅，原名張玫瑰，畢業(yè)于麗江教育學(xué)院，是感動中國2020年度人物、麗江華坪女子高級中學(xué)校長。扎根云南貧困山區(qū)40多年，推動創(chuàng)建了中國第一所免費女子高中，2008年建校以來已幫助1600多位女孩圓夢大學(xué)校園。先后榮獲”時代楷模”、“全國先進(jìn)工作者”、“全國十佳師德標(biāo)兵”、“中國十大教育年度人物”、“全國道德模范”等多個榮譽稱號，并被中共中央授予“七一勛章”。

award作動詞時，意為“給予，授予，判給”；作名詞時，意為“獎品；獎”。
常見搭配：
作動詞：award a medal to sb（授予某人獎?wù)拢?br/>作名詞：get/win/obtain/receive an award（獲獎）；first award（一等獎）；Oscar award（奧斯卡金像獎）；award for best actress（最佳女主角獎） 。

以 - less 結(jié)尾的詞通常是形容詞，表 “無、缺乏、不” 的含義 ，常由名詞或形容詞加后綴 -less 構(gòu)成：
描述人的特質(zhì)或狀態(tài)：careless 粗心的，fearless 無畏的，helpless無助的，hopeless 沒有希望的，thoughtless 粗心的。
描述事物的特征：endless 無盡的，meaningless 無意義的，useless 無用的，worthless 無價值的。
與職業(yè)、生活狀態(tài)相關(guān)：jobless 失業(yè)的，homeless 無家可歸的。
其他：colorless 無色的，cloudless 無云的，sleepless 失眠的，smokeless 無煙的，countless 無數(shù)的。
Zhang suffered from serious health problems.
含義：
患病：用于表示患有某種疾病，尤其是慢性或反復(fù)出現(xiàn)的疾病。如 He suffers from asthma.（他患有哮喘病）。
遭受（不愉快經(jīng)歷、困境等）：常指遭受痛苦、困難、壓力、損失等。比如 They suffered from the earthquake.（他們遭受了地震災(zāi)害）。
用法：suffer from后面通常接名詞或動名詞（v. -ing）作賓語，用來具體說明遭受的對象或內(nèi)容。
suffer和suffer from有一定區(qū)別，suffer可直接加抽象名詞，強調(diào)一次性的痛苦或損失，如suffer pain（遭受痛苦）；suffer from更側(cè)重長期、慢性的折磨或困擾 。

Finally, her hard work paid off.
還清（債務(wù)等）：He worked hard to pay off his student loans. 他努力工作以還清他的學(xué)生貸款。
付清工資后解雇：The company had to pay off some employees due to financial difficulties. 由于財務(wù)困難，公司不得不付清工資后解雇一些員工。
取得成功；得到回報：All his hard work paid off in the end and he got the promotion. 他所有的辛勤努力最終都得到了回報，他獲得了晉升。
賄賂：He tried to pay off the police officer to avoid getting a ticket.他試圖賄賂警察以避免收到罰單。
與其他短語的辨析
pay off和pay back都有 “償還” 的意思，但pay back更強調(diào)“歸還”，通常用于指償還向別人借的錢等，如：I’ll pay you back next week.（我下周還你錢。）而pay off更側(cè)重于全部還清債務(wù)等。
pay off表示“取得成功”時，與pay for意思不同，pay for主要表示“為……付款；為……付出代價”。
如：You’ll have to pay for your mistakes.（你將不得不為你的錯誤付出代價。）
