閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的 A、B、C、D四個選項中選出最佳選項。

While waiting for our plane to Oklahoma, I sat with my husband, watching other passengers. A family went by on their way to the Tampa flight. The elderly man with them looked exactly like my father,
I pictured them relaxing on the beach, sleeping late and dining in fine restaurants. “If only Daddy could go on a vacation like that," I said. For as long as I remembered, he had worked all day:first on the farm, then in a local shop. When it came time to retire, he took a part-time job in the local bank and took care of my mother during her final illness.
He'll let his whole life go by without enjoying it, I thought as we got up to board my flight for Daddy's ninetieth birthday. When we arrived at his house, he was still working in the vegetable garden.
“You know what Daddy always says,” my brother said.“There’s no reason to be here on earth if you're not useful!” I shook my head. “He ought to enjoy life at his age.”
It was dinner time when Daddy announced, “I made a reservation at a place called Legends. It has the finest food in town.” I was surprised. Such meals weren't something Daddy usually thought about.
When we arrived at the restaurant , the hostess welcomed Daddy like a regular (老主顧). Daddy cleared his throat (嗓子).“Whatever you order, be sure to go to the salad bar,” he said. Heading up there, I knew why. Never had I seen such beautiful produce:fresh cucumbers, bright green peppers and red tomatoes.
“Whoever makes the food here is a master, Daddy," I said. Daddy pointed to a picture of a farmer on the wall. It was him. Below the picture were “Fred has been growing produce for us during the summer. We buy all he grows.”
People from all over the restaurant came up to meet him. “You'll never find a blemish(瑕疵) on any of Fred Scott's produce!” a man told me. All this time I thought Daddy couldn't appreciate finer things in life.

In today's world, many of us are so used to typing that we seldom write by hand. From texting to typing shopping lists, using a keyboard is often faster and easier. However, scientists have discovered something surprising:writing by hand can be really good for your brain!
When you write by hand, your brain has to work harder compared to typing. Writing needs controlling how hard you press the pen and carefully shaping each letter. These need your body and eyes to work together with the function of both being controlled by different parts of the brain, helping you learn and remember things better. On the other hand, typing requires just tapping keys, which doesn't use as much brainpower.
In kids, studies show that writing ABCs, rather than typing them, leads to better and longer-lasting recognition and understanding of letters.“Writing by hand also improves memory, laying the ground for their ability to read fluently, write effectively, and learn new things,” says Ramesh, a scientist at the University of California.
For adults, one main benefit of handwriting is that it simply forces them to slow down. During a meeting or lecture, it's possible to type what they're hearing word by word. But often, “they're not actually processing that information --- they're just typing in the blind,” says Audrey van der Meer. “If taking notes by hand, they can't write everything down, "she says. The relative slowness forces them to process the information, writing key words or phrases and using drawing or symbols to work through ideas.“They make the information their own," she says, “which helps it stick in the brain. ”
We have a long history of using our hands to create meaning, and this tradition still helps us. In a world filled with digital tools, it's important to make time for handwriting. Whether for students, professionals, or anyone looking to improve their learning, taking notes by hand is not only a powerful tool for memory and understanding but also connects to a natural way of processing information.
24. What can we learn about handwriting from paragraph 2
A. It applies relatively less brainpower.
B. It does good to the sense of balance.
C.It needs brain areas to work together.
D. It requires repeated body movements.
25.What does Ramesh mean
A. Kids’ growth is becoming difficult.
B. Handwriting promotes kids’ future learning.
C. Reading more is of great importance for kids.
D. Typing develops kids’ ability to recognize words.
26. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. The Power of Writing by Hand
B. The Loss of People in Digital Age
C. The New Discovery by Researchers
D.The Natural Way to Process Information

The human being is a “social animal," as Aristotle suggested. We have a basic need to be included. Not enough social connection can have a bad effect on both our mental(精神的) and physical health.
Over the past several years, my workmates and I conducted 13 experiments about 1 ,980 people. We asked them to think about either experiential purchases ( buying experiences) or material(物質) purchases ( buying materials) they had made and then rate their thoughts and feelings about those purchases. In some of our studies, people reported feeling more connected to someone who had made the same experiential purchase than to someone who had made the same material purchase. This shows the fact that experiential purchases are more central to a person's identity. When people buy the same kind of experience, they feel more alike and connected because they believe these experiences show more about one's true sense of self.
Knowing that someone else has a better thing than what you have can make you feel more distant from them. However, we find that this feeling is not strong when it comes to experiences compared to material goods.
Moreover, we found that people who were asked to think about an experience they bought were more likely to choose social activities when deciding how to spend their free time. On the other hand, those who were asked to think about things they bought preferred solitary activities.
Experiences bring us together and give us memories of those connections that we can look back on. These memories, in turn, can encourage people to take part in more social activities. After the money is spent and the experience is over, purchases of experiences continue to strengthen the relationships they help build.
Our research also points to another important conclusion:communities could benefit greatly from promoting activities based on shared experiences. Policymakers(政策制定者) can help by making public spaces like parks, beaches, and museums more accessible. Therefore, people can come together and build stronger connections.
27.What strengthens people's connection according to the experiments
A. The sense of responsibility.
B. The purchase of the same goods.
C. The intention of being connected.
D. The recognition of each other's identity.
28. What does the underlined word “solitary”in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Interesting. B. Separate. C.Important. D.Traditional.
29. What can be inferred about the experiential purchase from paragraph 5
A. Its role is easy to replace.
B. Its importance is widely known.
C. Its process is important to record.
D. Its value is beyond the immediate enjoyment.
30. Why are policymakers mentioned
A. To inspire readers. B. To explain a strategy.

What's more, self-love contributes to choosing an emotionally healthy partner. When you feel good about yourself, you're less likely to get into harmful relationships. At the same time, taking care of your own emotions makes you emotionally balanced, which helps you understand and connect with your partner better. 34

My little brother, Daniel, was born with an illness that affected his lungs (肺),for which he had to receive special breathing treatments every morning. Despite his physical condition, Daniel enjoyed kayaking(單人劃船) and was surprisingly good at it. I, his older brother, always made it my business to keep a close eye on him. Every time he went kayaking, I would keep him company.
Now the kayaks, life jackets and paddles (槳) were ready. I just had to wait for him to finish his morning treatment. I thought I was like Daniel's guardian angel(守護天使),though he probably didn't know it.
“ All done!” Daniel called, opening the door.“Kayaks ready to go ”“Of course.”
“I'm going kayaking with David,” he called to Mom and Dad.“Okay, be careful and return soon ,” Mom replied.
Daniel happily headed to the shore, and I followed him with a smile. We climbed into our seats, put on our life jackets and then started rowing our kayaks out into the sea. The paddles cut easily through the water and we rowed perfectly. We were enjoying the sunny, clear day with a gentle wind when suddenly the sky turned cloudy and the wind picked up. Waves crashed into the rocks, making our kayaks rise and fall. I looked back at Daniel to make sure he was okay. He showed me an“OK”sign with his hand.
The wind became stronger and the waves pushed me close to a big rock. I paddled fast to keep my distance but failed. I was headed right for the rock! I was thrown into the water. Everywhere I looked, there was nothing but water. It felt like a long time before my head broke the surface. Help me! The water closed over my head again. I'll die. I thought. When I broke the surface again, “Daniel!”I shouted. “ Help me!”
Daniel was already on his way, paddling as fast as he could to save me.
