afraid of。be in fear of…“害怕……；擔心……”。
如：We fear to tell her the truth.
我們害怕把真相告訴她。

她的臉上充滿了恐懼。
whether
（1）whether作連詞，意為“不管……（還是）；或者……（或者）”，引導讓
步狀語從句。
（2）whether作連詞，還可意為“是否” ，引導賓語從句。
whenever
conj.意為“無論何時”，引導讓步狀語從句，相當于no matter when。與其用法
相似的還有：whatever ＝ no matter what無論什么；whichever ＝ no matter which
無論哪一個；wherever ＝ no matter where無論在哪里；whoever ＝ no matter who
無論誰；however ＝ no matter how無論如何。
【拓展】whenever還可意為“每當；每次”，此時用whenever引導時間狀語從
句。whenever引導時間狀語從句時，不可與no matter when互換。
simply
adv.意為“僅僅；只；不過”。相當于just 或only。
【拓展】simply還有“簡單地；簡樸地”的意思。simple作形容詞，意為“簡單
的；容易的”。
all year round
意為“全年”。
如：Many of these plants are evergreen，so you can enjoy them all year round.
這些植物中有很多都是四季常青的，所以你全年都可以觀賞它們。
be close to
意為“離……近”。
close作形容詞時，讀音為/kl s/；作動詞時，讀音為/kl z/。
