More and more young people are coming to Jingdezhen, China’s “porcelain (瓷器) capital”, to achieve their dreams.
After graduating from college Xiang Wei came to Jingdezhen at the suggestion of her friend. With more than 20 years of experience in fine arts and a bit of luck, Xiang quickly developed her own style and successfully started her ceramics studio (陶瓷器工作室).
Buying materials for ceramics in Jingdezhen is as easy as buying vegetables in a supermarket. Since many shops in the city are selling materials for ceramics, people can buy everything that is needed to make ceramics in these shops. It’s also convenient to learn the skills to make ceramics in Jingdezhen, as the city provides training courses on ceramics of different levels.
While other Chinese cities have started to see fairs for cultural and creative products in recent years, the culture of such fairs was already brought to Jingdezhen more than 10 years ago. Today, setting up stalls (攤位) at fairs is a widely accepted way for ceramics artists to sell and show ceramics products and communicate with customers.
And most of the young people who are following their dreams in the city are the kind of people who love life, follow their hearts, and lead a pure life. “We all have our dreams and love our life and work. That makes it easy for us to understand each other and become good friends,” said Xiang, who has made a lot of new friends since she came to the city.
59. Who advised Xiang Wei to come to Jingdezhen
A. Her friend. B. Her relative. C. Her parents. D. Her teacher.
60. Why is it easy to buy materials for ceramics in Jingdezhen
A. Because everyone can afford the materials for ceramics.
B. Because most of the supermarkets offer materials for ceramics.
C. Because people can make their own materials for ceramics quickly.
D. Because the city has a number of shops selling materials for ceramics.
61. What can people do at the fairs for ceramics products
①Buy some ceramics products.
②Admire the ceramics products.
③Learn the skills to make ceramics.
④Communicate with ceramics artists.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④
62. What can we learn from Xiang Wei’s words in the last paragraph
A. Helping our friends is also helping ourselves.
B. It’s important for us to follow our hearts and dreams.
C. We can achieve our dreams more easily with our friends’ help.
D. It’s easy to make friends when we have something in common.

Aasritha Duriseti, an eighth grader at Rachel Carson Middle School, saw her grandmother having a hard time taking off a bottle cap. So she decided to help.
Her major was engineering, which includes the fields like inventing, designing, testing and building systems and products to solve problems. Students are encouraged to make changes to a product to make it easier for people to use in their lives.
To find a solution for her grandmother, Aasritha tried some bottle openers on the market, and then she created her own. To create a better bottle opener, Aasritha used a piece of wood shaped like a cellphone. Next, she made three holes in the wood. The holes were in different sizes, so that they could match common bottle cap sizes. Each hole also had a layer (層) of dried, sticky glue. The glue layer provided a good grip (緊握) on the bottle caps. With a simple twist (旋轉), her grandmother could open bottles without help.
Students like Aasritha used math, physics and skills to deal with challenges people face. They also learned about empathy (同理心). As Aasritha’s teacher, Mark Bolt, said, it is important in engineering because engineers need to put themselves in the shoes of the person who use the product.
63. Which of the following might be Aasritha’s bottle opener
A. B. C. D.
64. What information is mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. The fields included in engineering.
B. The time Aasritha spent on the bottle opener.
C. The shape of some bottle openers on the market.
D. The reason why Aasritha used glue on the bottle opener.
65. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in the last paragraph
A. Math. B. Empathy. C. Invention. D. Challenge.

Every year, millions of British people take their bags and leave their comfortable homes to go camping. Sleeping in a tent or cooking on a campfire isn’t my idea of a fun holiday, but camping is very popular in the UK and I want to know why. So this week, I spoke to a travel-lover, Kirsty Baxter, to find out more.
Why do people like camping
“There are lots of reasons for this. It’s interesting. It’s cheap. It’s relaxing. It’s a great way to meet new people and spend lots of time outside. I go camping about five or six times a year. I love leaving the noise and stress of the city. There’s no TV or the Internet so you just listen to the birds, look at the sky or talk to other people. For me, the best thing about camping is being outdoors in beautiful, natural places.”
Is there anything you don’t like about camping
“Sometimes there aren’t any showers or any hot water outside. Also, you need to take lots of stuff (東西) with you — a tent, a sleeping bag, clothes, things for cooking — so your bag is usually heavy. And it’s cold in the middle of the night. You need warm clothes and lots of blankets (毯子), even in summer.”
66. What does Kirsty Baxter like best about camping
A. Meeting new people and talking with them.
B. Cooking delicious food on a campfire.
C. Staying outdoors in nice and natural places.
D. Sleeping in a warm and comfortable tent with friends.
67. What can we learn from the text
A. Most British people go camping five or six times a year.
B. The writer doesn’t think camping is a fun way to spend holidays.
C. The writer likes to go camping more than Kirsty Baxter does.
D. Kirsty Baxter doesn’t think we need any warm clothes for camping in summer.
68. Where can we probably read the text
A. In a travel magazine. B. At a clothing shop.
C. In an art show. D. From a school notice.

As the sunlight poured down on the trees and the running water at Mount Fanjingshan Yves Perrin, 62, sat beside the water wearing tai chi clothes, practicing traditional Chinese qigong breathing exercises.
Between April 7 to 19, a team of about 50 French kung fu fans visited Guizhou to practice tai chi as well as qigong with their teacher Ke Wen.
To improve his health, Perrin has learned qigong for 15 years and tai chi for 10 years. To master more skills, Perrin learned from Chinese masters and visited China’s Beidaihe in 2015, where there is a center for qigong teaching, research and treatment. “Qigong and tai chi can help me take good care of my feelings and help me become more peaceful,” Perrin said. “I love Chinese culture, and I hope it can help more people.” Now, Perrin also gives lessons and shares knowledge of qigong and tai chi with his friends.
Ke has taught tai chi and qigong in France for the past 30 years and has led more than 12,000 French martial arts fans to China. He said, “This trip deepened the friendship between the French people and the people of Guizhou. We’ll share the beautiful experience in China with France, Europe and the world.”
69. How does the writer introduce the topic in Paragraph 1
A. By listing some numbers. B. By asking a question.
C. By comparing two people. D. By describing a picture.
70. How old was Perrin when he started to learn tai chi

A. To enjoy its beauty. B. To spread knowledge of kung fu.
C. To do research on tai chi. D. To master more skills.
72. What can we learn from Ke’s words at the end of the text
A. He had a meaningful trip in China. B. He will travel around the world.
C. He made some friends from Europe. D. He will lead Guizhou people to France.
Once upon a time, there was a wise old man. He lived in the mountain. People respected him because he could always give the right answer to any question.
One day, a naughty (調皮的) boy from a village wanted to trick (捉弄) the old man, so he caught a tiny bird and held it in his hands. Then, he called his friends together. He said, “Let’s trick the old man. I’ll ask him what I’m holding in my hands. Of course, he’ll answer that I have a bird. Then I will ask him whether the bird is living or dead. If he says it is dead, I’ll open my hands and let the bird fly away. If he says the bird is living, I’ll kill the bird. Either way, he’ll be wrong.”
The children agreed that this was a clever plan. Up the hill they met the old man. “Dear man, we have a question for you.” they all shouted.
“What’s in my hands ” asked the little boy. “Well, it must be a bird.” replied the old man. “But is it living or dead ” the boy continued.
The old man thought for a moment and then replied, “That depends on you, my child. I believe your kindness will bring you the correct answer.”
