1.People often remember what they were doing when they heard the news of important events in history. In America, for example, many people remember what they were doing on April 4,1968. This was an important event in American history. On this day, Dr. Martin Luther King was killed. Although some people may not remember who killed him, they remember what they were doing when they heard the news.

1) the rest of ...意為“剩余的……”，既可接可數名詞，也可接不可數名詞。作主語時，謂語動詞的數應與of后面的名詞的數保持一致。

2) in silence意為 “沉默著, 靜靜地”, silence為不可數名詞, 意為 “沉默;無聲”, 其形容詞為silent。

by terrorists.
take down 意為 “拆掉; 拆除; 拆卸”, 此處根據上下文可譯為“摧毀; 毀掉”, 此處用了被動語態結構。
