Once a lion caught a mouse. The mouse was afraid. He said, “Please let me go! One day I will help you!” The lion laughed and let the mouse go. Later, a hunter caught the lion in a net. The mouse helped the lion then. He bit through the net and set the lion free!

the simple past tense 一般過去時
Read the sentences. What tenses do they use When do you use each tense
The sentences use the simple present tense and the simple past tense. We use the simple present tense to talk about general truths(一般事實).
We use the simple past tense to talk about completed actions(已完成的動作) that happened before now.
一般過去時
一般過去時可表示過去的狀態、過去的特征、過去的行為等,常與表示過去的時間狀語連用,如yesterday, last year, in 2024, two days ago等。
e.g. He got up early yesterday.
I helped my grandpa last week.
一般過去時也可表示過去經常或反復發生的動作,常和often, always等表示頻度的狀語連用。
e.g. He always went to work by bus last year.
常見的時間狀語
1. yesterday類:yesterday, the day before yesterday, yesterday afternoon等。
2. last類:last week, last year, last month等。
3. ago類:three days ago, two weeks ago等。
4. in+過去年份:in 2022等。
5. this類: this evening, this Monday。
6. 頻度副詞:always, often, usually, sometimes等。
