1. I called at seven and you didn't pick up.
pick up (=pick up the phone) 接電話 = answer the phone
pick up 還有以下含義：
1) 拾起；抱起
e.g. 孩子們在海邊撿到許多貝殼。
把那本書撿起來。

2) (開車)接人；搭載
e.g. 明天我會開車到你家接你。
I'll pick you up at your home tomorrow.

區分 when 與while
(1) “當…的時候”，如后面連接的動詞為進行時態,則多用while。而when通常與瞬間性動詞連用。
(2) 若while前后的動詞都是進行時態,while可譯為“與此同時”
e.g. 我在看書，與此同時我的哥哥在畫畫。
I was reading while my brother was drawing.
(3) 當while前后的句子描述的情況相對或相反,while可譯為“而”,while更強調并列的對比而非轉折。
e.g. 我很外向，而我的姐姐很文靜。
I am outgoing while my sister is quiet and shy.
