alone 作形容詞，意為“單獨的，獨自的”，只能作表語或后置定語，常用搭配be alone。 He doesn't feel scared when he is alone. 他獨自一人時不感到害怕。
作副詞，意為“單獨地，只有”，作狀語，常用搭配live alone。 He likes living alone.他喜歡獨居。
lonely 作形容詞，指人“孤獨的，寂寞的”；指地方“荒涼的，偏僻的”。作定語、表語、賓語補足語，常用搭配feel lonely。 He has been very lonely since his wife left him. 自從他妻子離開他后，他一直感到很寂寞。

other 另外；其他 修飾名詞，位于名詞之前。如：Put it in your other hand.把它放在你的另一只手中。
else 別的；其他的 修飾不定代詞something，anything，nothing，somebody，anybody，nobody等及疑問詞who，what等，必須位于這些詞之后。 如：Who else can play the piano？還有誰會彈鋼琴？

(1)while作從屬連詞，引導時間狀語從句。while 意為“在/當……的時候；和……同時”，從句中的動詞只能是延續性的或表示狀態的動詞；作并列連詞時，表示兩者之間的對比關系，意為“而，然而”。主從句的時態通常是相同的。如： While we were talking，the teacher came in.我們正在談話時，老師進來了。 He is strong while his brother is weak.他長得很結實，而他弟弟卻很瘦弱。 (2)when作從屬連詞，引導時間狀語從句。when意為“在/當……的時候”；從句中謂語動詞是延續性動詞，也可以是非延續性動詞。常可代替while 與as。如： When/While/As we were dancing，a stranger came in.我們跳舞時，一位陌生人走了進來。 (3)as作從屬連詞，意為“當……時候”，引導時間狀語從句，強調同時發生，不分前后。還可以說明兩種正發展或變化的情況，有“隨著”的意思，表示時間的推移。還可表示“一邊……一邊……”，側重兩個動作同時發生。如： As the time went on，the weather got worse.隨著時間的推移，天氣變得越來越糟糕。

invent 發明 是指創造前所未有的事物，意為“發明”。

find out 查明 多指通過調查、詢問、研究之后“弄明白，搞清楚”。
