主語和謂語在語法形式上取得一致，即謂語的單復數由主語形式決定。
主單-謂單
主復-謂復
（1）不定式、動名詞、單個從句作主，謂單。
Going swimming on Sunday ___ one of his habits.(be)
To run faster ______(need) more practice.

(2) 不定代詞作主語，謂語動詞用單數。（不定主，謂用單）
eg.Nothing is impossible. 一切皆有可能。

（3）and 或 both...and...連接并列主，謂語動詞用復數。

★注意: and 連接兩并列主，若前有each, every等修飾，謂語動詞用單數

每個人都在忙著工作。
(4)成雙成對出現的復數名詞作主語，謂用復。

口訣：有量詞時看量詞，單獨出現用復數

(5) 主語之后插入短語，謂語不受其干擾， 仍看最前的主語。
一包（including），一不是（rather than），兩除（except, besides)四個和（with, along with, together with, as well as）

(6)分數還有百分數，關鍵要看of后，或是根據上下文，判定所指是單復
分數/百分數/half/ most/ lots/ some/ plenty +of +名詞作主語

(7) a number of “許多“，謂用復；the number of “……的數量”，謂用單。
eg.A number of students are playing basketball.
The number of students is quite large.

意義一致原則
意義一致原則：即謂語的單復數形式由主語意義而非形式決定。
eg. The police are looking for the missing child.
（1）有的名詞謂用復，people, police即這般。
（2)單復同形(sheep, deer, fish等), 其單復數取決于它在句中的含義。
（3）集體名詞謂用單(family, team, class, group...)，如若強調其成員，復數謂語記心間。
eg.My family _____ a happy one. (be)
My family _____all watching TV now. (be)

(4)以“s”結尾的學科名詞(physics，politics 等)，或以“-s”結尾的地名、人名、書名、劇名、報名、國名等詞后，謂用單。

(5) some, all, most, half, the rest等作主，要看指人或指物。（如若指人謂復數，若指事情謂用單）
All were present at the meeting. 所有人都出席了會議。
All is going on very well. 一切（事情）順利。
就近一致原則
就近原則:謂語動詞單或復，看離它最近的主語。

(1)在there be 句型中
eg. There ______ a pen and some books in the desk.

(2)由并列結構或連詞either... or, neither...nor, not...but, not only... (but) also, 等連接的并列主語
eg.Neither his parents nor Tom is at home.
口訣：or, nor, but also, there be, 近主原則掛嘴邊
