一、基本原則
1. 長短句原則
一個短小精悍的句子，通常可以起到畫龍點睛的作用。尤其是當我們把短句放在段首時，它不僅可以承上啟下，還可以揭示主題，長短句結合，可以給人抑揚頓挫之感。因此，許多專家建議：在文章第一段（開頭）用一長一短，且先長后短；在文章主體部分，要先用一個短句解釋主要意思，然后在闡述幾個要點的時候采用先短后長的句群形式，這樣主體部分定會讓人賞心悅目，文章結尾只需用一長一短。如：
As a creature, I eat; as a man, I read. Although one action is to meet the primary need of my body and the other is to satisfy the intellectual need of mind, they are in a way quite similar.
2. 主題句原則
一篇文章的開頭（有時也可在結尾）有一個主題句，也就有了中心，然后圍繞主題展開相關內容，這樣的文章思路清晰，讓人一目了然。開頭一句赫然醒目，直接點題。否則，若把主題隱藏在文章的中間，很可能使讀者感到云里霧里，不知所云。如：
To begin with, you must work hard at your lessons and be fully prepared before the exam.（主題句）Without sufficient preparation, you can hardly expect to answer all the questions correctly.
3. 條理性原則
一般來說，如果一篇文章以第一、第二、第三或首先、其次、再次等羅列要點會讓人感覺層次分明、條理清晰、邏輯性強。強烈推薦下列關聯詞和短語：
（1）to begin with，then，furthermore，finally
（2）to start with，next，in addition，finally
（3）first，besides，last but not least
（4）most important of all，moreover，finally
（5）for one thing，for another
（6）on the one hand，on the other hand
4. 短語優先原則
寫作時，尤其是在考試時，如果正確使用短語，有兩個好處：一是用短語會給文章增光添彩，自然會增加得分點；二是學生在考場上有時因為過于緊張而造成思維短路，但還得湊夠詞數，那么用短語替代單詞不失為一種好辦法。這樣詞數明顯增加，表達也非常準確。如：
I cannot bear (put up with) it.
Through participating in this picking activity, I have become aware of (known) the importance of the significance of work.
I am determined (decide) to study hard, to be a useful person to the country and to contribute to (help) the improvement of people's lives.
From this activity, we have realized that building up our body is of great importance (important) ...
5. 多實少虛原則
寫文章還是應該寫一些實際的東西，不能空話連篇。這就要求一定要多用實詞，少用虛詞。這里所說的虛詞就是指那些比較大的詞。比如我們想表達人或事物很好的時候，不應該總用nice這樣空洞的詞，而是要使用一些諸如generous，humorous，interesting，smart，gentle，warm-hearted，hospitable之類的形容詞。如：
There are many respectable (good) people around us.
The vocabulary and grammar of the plot need to be adjusted, and we also need your guidance
(advice) on our performance.
She has a flexible (good) teaching method.
Moreover, the scenery along the river is amazing (nice) , with many well-known sightseeing spots.
6. 多變句式原則
（1）并列（串聯）
我們有時希望自己能寫出結構復雜的長句，但又怕寫錯。要解決這一問題，最保險的寫長句的方法是在句子之間加and，但它們之間最好是先后關系或者并列關系。表示并列關系的詞還有besides，furthermore，likewise，moreover，not only…but also…等。
（2）轉折
用了表示轉折的詞，可以使文章要點明確，重點突出。表轉折關系的詞有but，yet，still，however，nevertheless，in spite of，despite等。
（3）因果
文章中使用了表示因果關系的詞后，可以讓你的句式變得豐富多彩，語言富于變化，更具說服力。表示因果關系的詞有so，then，therefore，consequently，as a result，for this reason，so that等。
（4）失衡句（頭重腳輕，或者頭輕腳重）
有時突然出現一個不合乎常理的句子，必然會吸引別人的注意力，顯得與眾不同。其實就是使用了主語從句、表語從句、賓語從句。
（5）附加
定語從句和同位語從句或者是插入語的恰當運用，也會讓人感覺你既有深厚的語法功底，又具有極強的語言表達能力。
（6）排比
文學作品中最吸引人的地方莫過于此，如果要讓你的文章更加精彩的話，可以使用多個對偶、多個不定式、多個動詞、多個短語等，如此表達將會使文章有排山倒海之勢。
7. 挑戰極限原則
挑戰極限聽起來很難，但并非高不可攀。在學生的文章中，很少發現諸如獨立主格之類的句子，因為學生要么想不到，要么怕寫錯。其實這一語法項目并不難，它只是分詞的一種特殊形式，分詞要求前后主語一致，而獨立主格則有自己的邏輯主語。這種句子出現在文章中一定會令人刮目相看，很自然地成了一個得分點。
二、知識積累
在寫作中，要想有效避免句子的單調和呆板，寫出豐富、簡短、生動的句子，善于句型轉化非常重要。常用的句型轉化形式有：
1. 用介詞或介詞短語對祈使句、并列句、狀語從句進行轉化，可使句子變得簡潔。常用的介詞（介詞短語）有but for，thanks to，in spite of，despite，in the face of，on/upon one's arrival，because of，as well as，such as，by doing 等。
Because he helped me, I accomplished the task on time.
→Thanks to his help, I accomplished the task on time.
2. 使用現在分詞對祈使句、并列句、名詞性從句、定語從句或狀語從句進行轉化
Go straight and you will see a flower shop.
→Going straight, you will see a flower shop.
As I was lying on the grass, I thought of my brother who was studying abroad.
→Lying on the grass, I thought of my brother studying abroad.
3. 使用過去分詞可對并列句、定語從句或狀語從句進行轉化
He was told many times, but he didn't memorize the rule.
→Told many times, he didn't memorize the rule.
4. 使用不定式可對介詞短語、并列句、狀語從句、定語從句、名詞性從句進行轉化
The policemen entered the forest in search of the missing boy.
→The policemen entered the forest to search for the missing boy.
5. with的復合結構可對并列句、狀語從句進行轉化，而獨立主格結構也可對并列句或狀語從句進行轉化
I have a lot of work to do and can't go to Beijing with you tomorrow.
→With a lot of work to do, I can't go to Beijing with you tomorrow.
If weather permits, we will hold the meeting outside.
→Weather permitting, we will hold the meeting outside.
6. 為了增強表意效果，有時可以用倒裝句、省略句等特殊句式對常見句式進行轉化
I didn't know the result until he told me.
→Not until he told me did I know the result.
→Only when he told me did I know the result.
If I am invited, I will attend the party.
→If invited, I will attend the party.
7. 有時，根據寫作的需要，名詞性從句和定語從句、并列句和定語從句、名詞性從句之間也可以相互轉化
He has two sons and both of them are doctors.
→He has two sons, both of whom are doctors.
We all know that he is a warm-hearted man.
→As we all know, he is a warm-hearted man.
→What is known to us all is that he is a warm-hearted man.
That different people have different hobbies is natural.
→It's natural that different people have different hobbies.
三、題型分類
（一）申請信
1. 常用句型
（1）表明目的
I'm writing to apply for your recently advertised position of _________.
我寫信是想申請貴公司最近刊登的……職位。
Having learnt from the newspaper that you are in need of _________, I'm writing to express my interest in it.
從報紙上得知你們需要……，我寫信是想表達我對此非常感興趣。
Informed/Learnt that you want a companion as a tour guide to travel around China, I strongly recommend myself as a qualified candidate.
得知你想要一名同伴作為導游在中國各地旅行，我強烈推薦自己為合格人選。
Perfectly fit/ suitable/ qualified for _________, I'm writing in reply to your notice for _________.
完全符合……，我寫信回復你……的啟事。
I'm writing in the hope that I can obtain the opportunity to _________.
我寫信是希望能得到……的機會。
（2）闡述優勢
① 總述
I am competent to meet the requirements you've listed.
我有能力滿足你列出的要求。
② 資格
I am confident that I'm suitable for _________/ qualified to do _________/ equal to doing _________.
我確信我適合做……/有資格做……/能勝任……。
I once worked as _________, which makes me experienced in _________.
我曾經做過……，這是我在……有經驗。
③ 性格
Meanwhile, it is my independence that makes it easy for me to adapt to a new environment.
同時，正是我的獨立使我很容易適應新環境。
For my being outgoing and enthusiastic, it's relatively easy to get along with me.

④ 優勢
As a graduate majoring in English, I have no difficulty in communicating with others in English.
作為英語專業的畢業生，我用英語同他人交流毫不費力。
To be honest, I have a gift for communicating with others.
說實話，我有與他人溝通的天賦。
What is more important is that my good communication sills enable me to keep a good relationship with others.
更重要的是，我良好的交際能力使我能與他人維持良好關系。
⑤ 經驗
Furthermore, I have participated in community activities for years on end, which makes me cope with various emergencies promptly and efficiently/ more qualified for the position.
此外，我已經連續多年參加社區活動，這使我能夠迅速有效地應對各種緊急情況/更加勝任這個職位。
（3）表達感謝期望
Should you favor me for the position, I'm convinced that I would live up to your expectations.
如果您選擇我擔任此職，我一定不會辜負您的期望。

1. 常用句型
（1）表明目的
