If you want your life to stand for peace and kindness, it's helpful to do some kind, peaceful things. One of my favorite 31 to do this is by developing my own helping ritual(儀式). These little acts of 32 are opportunities to be of service and reminders of how good it feels to be kind and 33 .
We live in a rural area of the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of what we see is 34 nature. One of the 35 to the beauty is the litter that some people throw out of their car windows as they are 36 on the rural roads. One of the few 37 to living out the rural areas is that public' services, such as litter collection, are less 38 than they are closer to the city.
A helping ritual that I practice 39 with my two daughters is picking up litter in our surrounding areas. We've become so accustomed to doing this that my 40 will often say to me in a pleasant voice, “There is some littler, Daddy; 41 our car!” And if we have enough 42 , we will often pull over and pick it up. It seems strange, but we actually 43 it. We pick up litter in parks, on sidewalks, practically anywhere. Once I even saw a(n) 44 picking up litter close to our house. The man who I didn't know smiled at me and said, “I 45 saw you doing this, and it seem like a good idea.”
Picking up litter is only 46 of an endless supply of possible helping rituals. You might like holding a door open for people, visiting and 47 lonely old people in nursing homes, or shoveling(鏟) snow off someone else's driveway. Think of something that seems effortless 48 helpful. It's worthwhile, personally rewarding, and can be a good example. Your acts of kindness can 49 others to do the same things. On a cold morning in May, I received a fascinating email from a high school friend, inviting me to a 10-day all-female surfing adventure in Portugal. The offer was irresistible, and I instantly knew my answer was yes.
The trip seemed simple enough. Ten women, ranging from 30 to 45 years old, all strangers, will gather on the Portuguese coast to embrace the challenge of surfing the Atlantic waves.
As a travel enthusiast, I quickly sought permission from my boss for this once-in-a-lifetime journey.
Through my 33 years, I've observed a common adult tendency: we often limit ourselves to refining skills we already possess. There's a certain pride in improving our expertise, becoming increasingly knowledgeable in our chosen fields, yet unintentionally, this focus often leaves other skills undeveloped and leads to neglecting other areas of potential growth.
Two days later, I arrived in Ericeira, a charming surf town, where I met my surfing group.Despite our different personalities and backgrounds, we were all united in a persistent desire to challenge ourselves, learn, tackle and grow.
The shores at Ericeira, where the beginners learn to surf, are shallow and covered with slippery rocks. They make for softer waves but are difficult to navigate(駕馭) .
Guided by our amazing coaches, together, we faced the waves. Sometimes, it poured with rain, and the waves crashed around us, but we were still out there. And with every slip and fall, words of encouragement filled the air.
Honestly, I probably spent most of my days frozen to the bone, but that didn't matter because a new level of genuine joy and personal achievement had been unlocked.
Learning a new skill taught me the humbleness that can come from doing badly at something
new, and the pride that develops when you finally manage to grasp something you've been working on.
While surfing might not be my calling, trying it out inspired me to take more risks in life, to step outside of my comfort zone and to never stop believing in myself. You never know what you' re capable of if you don't go out there and try.

Is it possible to make machines think like humans This is one question in-research in the filed of Artificial Intelligence, or“AI”. To think like a human, it involves feelings, morality, hopes, and dreams. Humans are capable of making decisions by themselves without input from others, and they can learn from experience. In addition, humans are able to create things from their own inspiration for their own pleasure. The question is whether machines can ever really think in all these aspects. The idea of a computer that is all-powerful and can think and make decisions for itself terrifies many people. In some films, AI even decides that all humans must be killed. Many people are also concerned that AI will be used to replace humans.
Yet others are comforted by the thought of AI. Maybe with AI, robots can be made to replace loved ones who have died. Today, the creation of an all-powerful computer capable of human thought is still in progress. We have companion (陪伴) robots, and it is likely that they will grow more important in our lives as time goes by. However, the need for such robots does not seem to be as critical as our need for intelligent machines that can solve problems by learning from their
observations and experience.
For example, AI is already being used with great success in Internet search engines and as a personal assistant in our smartphones. It learns from our habits to help us find what we want and like.AI is also used to diagnose(診斷) problems and suggest solutions. Researchers are also experimenting with the use of AI in driverless cars which can sense their surroundings and decide on the best way to reach a destination. It is also being used in education, particularly in online courses. Furthermore, industries that use robots for repetitive or dangerous work often turn to AI to manage these electronic workers. In addition, virtual assistants are also being used in some homes today. In the near future, it is likely that AI will be used to manage smart homes and handle an even greater variety of tasks such as setting out favourite clothes and helping us with our personal grooming(梳妝) . The AI of today has already proven its superiority to humans in many areas. Do you think that we can create a robot that thinks like a human or one that is even more intelligent If so, is there truly a difference between AI and a human
61. What can we learn from Paragraphs 1 and 2
A. We already have all-powerful computers with the power of human thought.
B. One day the AI will decide on its own to wipe out humans.
C. Robots with AI have the potential to replace our loved ones.
D. In contrast, humans need artificial intelligence machines to help us solve problems rather than companion robots.
62. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. AI will eventually be used to manage workers.
B. AI is often used to manage robots on production lines.
C. Industrial robots are completely different from electronic workers.
D. Industrial robots often turn to AI.
63. What could be inferred from Paragraph 3 about AI
A. Smartphones already have AI technology.
B. AI technology for driverless cars is already mature.
C AI has been being used to manage smart homes.
D. Artificial intelligence has proved its superiority over humanity in all fields.
o4. What is the author's attitude towards AI
A. Short-sighted. B. Wait-and-see. C. Optimistic. D. Skeptical.
65. What makes the best title for the passage
A. AI Thinks like Humans B. AI Robots
C. AI and Human Beings D. The Future of AI

A study of art history might be a good way to learn more about a culture. Most typical history courses concentrate on politics, economics, and wars. But art history focuses on much more than these because art reflects not only the political values of a people, but also religious beliefs, emotions, and psychology. In addition, information about the daily activities of our ancestors-or of people very different from us-can be provided by art. In short, art expresses the essential qualities of a time and a place, and a study of it clearly offers us a deeper understanding than what can be found in most history books.
In history books, objective information about the political life of a country is presented; that is,facts about politics are given, but opinions are not expressed. Art, on the other hand, is subjective: it reflects emotions and opinions. The great Spanish painter Franciso Goya was perhaps the first truly political artist. In his well-known painting The Third of May, 1808, he criticized the Spanish government for its misuse of power over people. Over a hundred years later, symbolic images were used in Pablo Picasso's Guernica to express the horror of war. Meanwhile, on another continent, the powerful paintings of Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozeo, and David Alfaro Siqueiros - - as well as the works of Alfredo Ramos Martinez-showed these Mexican artists' deep anger and sadness about social problems.
In the same way, art can reflect a culture's religious beliefs. For hundreds of years in Europe, religious art was almost the only type of art that existed. Churches and other religious buildings were filled with paintings that depicted people and stories from the Bible. Although most people couldn't read, they could still understand biblical stories in the pictures on church walls. By contrast, one of the main characteristics of art in the Middle East was and still is its absence of human and animal images. This reflects the Islamic (伊斯蘭教的) belief that statues are unholy (不神圣的, 褻瀆神明的).
66. Which of the following sentences is WRONG according to the passage
A. Art history concentrates on religious beliefs; emotions and psychology only.
B. Art can provide information about the everyday activities of ancient people.
C. Information and facts about politics are given objectively in history.
D. Franciso Gova was perhaps the first truly political artist.
67. History books are objective because .
A. it will make the viewers angry and sad about history
B. personal and emotional opinions are expressed through it
C. it can help us understand historical facts better
D. opinions about facts are not expressed
68. The two pictures The Third of May,1808 and Guernica mentioned in paragraph 2 show that .
A. art is subjective
B. at tists are very similar even over a hundred years
C. history books present objective information
D. art can reflect political life of a country
69. In paragraph 2, the underlined part“another continent' refers to .
A. Europe B. America C. Mexico D. Middle East
70. The passage is mainly discussing .
A. the difference between general history and art history
B. the development of art history
C the influence of artists on art history
D. what we can learn from art history

Growing up in Saudi Arabia, 44-year-old photographer Jody MacDonald has always had a strong interest in the desert. “I have always wanted to spend some time in the Sahara,” MacDonald said.“There are still so many unexplored areas in the Sahara Desert. These relatively unexplored places are so rare these days and hold the very fundamentals of exploration, which attract me. So finally I made the journey.” MacDonald started her journey in Mauritania's capital city Nouakchott, and headed inland where she and her team jumped on the world's longest cargo train(貨運列車) for a 435-mile journey on the Mauritania Railway. “The train was dirty and uncomfortable but it was such an interesting and unique way to travel through the vast desert by train,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald and her group had to face many challenges on their journey. Except for the dirt and discomfort, the travelers also had to deal with the intense heat, violent winds and even dangerous sandstorms. “I was out taking photographs and within minutes, the wind increased to more than100miles an hour,” MacDonald said. “I thought my skin was going to be torn off because of the rain and blowing sand. It felt like sandpaper on my skin. I have never experienced winds that strong before. There was once a time when I wanted to give up.”
She dealt with the harsh conditions by trying not to travel in the middle of the day and wore headscarves to protect herself from the sun and blowing sand. “The weather definitely dictates when and where you travel;” said MacDonald. 六、書面表達
Dear teachers and schoolmates,
I am Lijin, from Chinese Language Club. I feel greatly honored to stand here
and share the importance of reading in learning Chinese, hoping my experience and
advice will bring some benefits to you.
As international students, regular reading will significantly enhance your
language skills and cultural understanding. First of all, reading Chinese newspapers,
magazines, or short articles daily helps you adapt to natural language usage. I
recommend People’s Daily and Reader to you. Reading such materials is a good
means of gaining a deep insight into Chinese society and culture as well as admiring
some fantastic articles. Meanwhile, by exposing yourselves to the authentic Chinese
language, you’ll gradually grasp common expressions and correct sentence
structures, which is an effective way to for you beginners to apply them in your
speaking and writing. Moreover, memorizing isolated words is quite challenging for
many of you, but learning new words in context is much easier. Reading plays an
important role in expanding vocabulary efficiently. Additionally, practicing skills like
skimming for main ideas or scanning for details will improve both speed and
comprehension— the key to exams and real-life communication.
As the Chinese proverb says, “Read thousands of books, and writing becomes
effortless.” As far as I’m concerned, forming a good habit of reading for at least 20
minutes daily is not so difficult. Start with simplified texts, then gradually challenge
yourselves. Let’s improve together through reading and experience the charm of
Chinese!"
That’s all. Thank you!
