In spring, some people wear T-shirts while others are in down coats. It seems that people feel different temperatures (溫度) on the same day. Why does this happen
In fact, people don’t feel air temperature directly (直接地). There are sensors (傳感器) on our skin (皮膚) that can feel cold, cool, warm, and hot temperatures. These sensors are also found in our noses and bodies. When bodies are the same size, how much body fat we have can be different and influence (影響) how we feel temperatures. The more body fat one has, the warmer he or she feels. This is because the fat under the skin helps keep heat, according to the website.
For example, old people often feel colder than young people as the fat layer under the skin gets thinner with age. Surprisingly, another reason is height. We need blood to move around our bodies to keep us warm. Since most people’s hearts are about the same size, it takes more effort (力氣) and time for the blood to move around in taller people. So taller people might feel colder.
Metabolism (新陳代謝) also influences how we feel temperatures. It shows how fast our bodies use energy (能量). People with a higher metabolism always feel hotter than others. This is because they produce more heat and may take more time to cool down. For example, people with more muscles (肌肉) often feel warmer.
14. How do people feel air temperature
A. With their nose. B. With sensors on their skin. C. With their body fat.
15. Why do old people feel cold more easily
A. Because their bodies get smaller.
B. Because they have thinner skin.
C. Because they have less fat under their skin.
16. According to the passage, who is most likely to feel cold
A. A tall, thin person. B. A tall, fat person. C. A short, thin person.
17. What is the main idea of the text
A. Everyone feels the same temperature in spring.
B. People feel temperature differently because of their body differences.
C. Tall people are always colder than short people.

Parrots are known for being able to copy some of the sounds that people make—they might make sounds like “Hello” or “How are you ” if they get used to hearing words and phrases (短語(yǔ)) like these. Some birds are also able to learn the names of objects and identify (識(shí)別) them.
A 5-year-old parrot in the U. S. has been recognized by Guinness World Records (吉尼斯世界紀(jì)錄) after correctly identifying 12 objects in three minutes. That record-breaking bird is an African gray parrot named Apollo, who lives in Florida. He can identify things like books, toys and socks.
He became popular on the Internet, where he has about 3 million followers. Apollo actually broke the record in 2023 but he’s one of the stars in the Guinness Book of World Records that came out in September 2024.
The parrot is owned by a couple named Dalton and Victoria Mason. They’re content (內(nèi)容) creators and they’ve been working hard to train the bird. The owners say they teach Apollo as if he were a child of preschool age. “We teach him as much as we can.” the couple told Guinness and said that they focus on things that Apollo wants to focus on.
Researchers have found that some African gray parrots are able to do better at some cognitive (認(rèn)知的) tasks than 5-year-old children. And Apollo’s owners want to keep teaching the bird to see how much he can learn and how many more records he can break.

Yang Hongwei, born in 1966, is a keeper of the Weifang kite-making skill. Born into a kite-making family, Yang often saw kites with bright colors and different shapes in her grandfather’s workshop.

“It took me a lot of time,” Yang said, “but when I explain the stories of the kites to foreign people, I feel a great sense of achievement.”
In her free time, she travels to different countries including Germany, Australia, the United States and New Zealand to tell people stories of Chinese kites and the traditional ways they are made. “It is an important job of mine to spread our heritage (遺產(chǎn)) around the world and among our children,” she said.

Replacing Real Meat
Do you know plant-based meat(植物肉) A few years ago, one of my friends asked me to try a burger. It tasted a little different from a “real” burger, but it wasn’t bad either.
Plant-based meat is meat made out of plant protein(植物蛋白). For example, wheat and peas(豌豆) can be used to make it. But plant-based meat looks and tastes just like real meat. It’s becoming more popular around the world these days.
Experts say this food is good for physical health. If people eat too much meat, it will lead to many illnesses such as heart problems.
Environmental protection is another reason for people to choose plant-based meat. Most greenhouse gases (溫室氣體) in the world comes from the meat industry. If everyone stops eating meat, it will cut down greenhouse gas emissions(排放) by two-thirds.
However, some people still like to eat real meat more than plant-based meat. They wonder if plant-based meat is safe or healthy. Higher prices also hold some people back. For example, Burger King’s plant-based burger is one dollar more expensive than a real meat burger.
