Huang Xuhua, born in 1926 in Guangdong Province, is known as the “Father of China’
s Nuclear Submarines.” His pioneering work in the 1960s and 1970s helped lay the
foundation for China’s nuclear submarine (核潛艇) program, which played a key role in

developing a compact nuclear reactor capable of powering a submarine. With limited
expertise in nuclear physics and engineering, Mr. Huang and his team worked tirelessly to
design an efficient and reliable reactor, demonstrating his creativity and leadership skills.
After over a decade of hard work, Huang’s team achieved a historic breakthrough in
1970 by launching China’s first nuclear-powered submarine, the Type 091 (Han-class).
This meant China became one of the few countries able to build nuclear submarines. Soon
after, they developed the Type 092 (Xia-class), China’s first ballistic missile submarine,
which boosted the country’s nuclear defense.
Huang’s contributions went beyond technology. His leadership inspired a generation
of Chinese scientists and engineers to focus on self-reliance and innovation. Despite the
heavy pressure and secrecy surrounding his work, Huang stayed committed to the project,
often sacrificing personal comforts for its success. In recognition of his achievements,

Diabetes (糖尿病) researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
have developed a new understanding of how human beta cell regenerative (再生的) drugs
work. These drugs, developed at Mount Sinai, may hold promise for more than 500 million
people with diabetes in the world. The results of this study were published this month in
Cell Reports Medicine.
Diabetes develops when cells known as beta cells become unable to produce insulin, a
chemical substance essential to regulating blood sugar levels. While great progress has
been made toward discovering a long-term treatment, none are appliable for millions of
patients across the world.
For more than 15 years, researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
have worked tirelessly to find a solution to cure diabetes by identifying a drug that could
make human beta cells regenerate. In 2015, Mount Sinai researchers discovered the first
such drug, called harmine. Harmine is a member of a class of drugs called DYRK1A
inhibitors (抑 制 劑 ). Finally, in July 2024, they showed that harmine alone increases
human beta cell mass by 300 percent, and if a GLP-1RA is added, by 700 percent.
A key question has been how harmine causes beta cells to regenerate. In the newest
study, the research team reports that the new, regenerated beta cells may be coming from
an unexpected source: a second pancreatic cell type called alpha cells. Since alpha cells are
abundant in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, they may serve as a source for new
beta cells in both common types of diabetes.
“This may mean that people with all forms of diabetes have a large potential
‘container’ for future beta cells, just waiting to be activated by drugs like harmine.” said
Esra Karakose, corresponding author of the study. “A simple pill, perhaps together with a
GLP-1RA like semaglutide, is affordable and accessible to the millions of people with
diabetes,” said Dr. Stewart, another researcher.

Will AI Replace Teachers
The AI teacher is also known as the mechanical teacher. 36 It’s a computer or
machine that can teach a student according to the level it’s programmed to teach.
While the thought of a reliable computer teaching your child might seem promising,
an AI cannot adapt its teaching to its student during mid-lesson or read its student’s
emotions, as a human teacher can. 37 It also cannot inspire its students as a human

There are some who believe that teachers will be completely replaced by robots by the
year 2027. Human teachers do carry with them some disadvantages. Some teachers can be
of poor character. Others can have a compromising character or not be as knowledgeable
about particular subjects as they should be. 38
If you ask anyone the top qualities of a good teacher, an AI cannot meet these
standards. They include friendly attitude, listening skills, respectful attitude, strong work
ethic, patience, discipline skills, and so forth. AI cannot replace teachers. They cannot give
a child what he or she needs. 39

This added efficiency allows him or her the time he or she needs to work more one-on-one
with students to provide more adaptability and understanding for them. The two things are
what an AI teacher would struggle to provide.

My Favorite Hands-on Course
In response to the call of nationwide labor education , a series of hands-on courses were launched
last term in our school , ranging from planting vegetables to making traditional handicrafts .
Sewing is one of my favorite courses , where I obtained a fundamental knowledge of essential life
skills such as sewing a button , knitting a scarf , and making a cushion by operating the sewing machine . It
was surely a rewarding and fulfilling experience , which not only enriched our extracurricular life but also
helped us acquire practical basic working capabilities for livelihood and form the good habit of labouring .
The hands-on courses have won wide popularity among students and exerted a positive effect on the
personal growth of everyone involved . If possible , an exhibition could be held to demonstrate students '

northern edge of South Kensington. The hall was originally supposed to have been called the Central
