It all started with a simple question: “Can I paint your portrait ” One day in the summer of 2015, Peterson was relaxing in his living room, reading the book Love Does, about the power of love in action, when his quiet was disturbed by a homeless man outside his apartment. Inspired by the book’s compassionate message, Peterson made a decision.He was going to go outside and introduce himself.
In that first conversation, Peterson learned that the man’s name was Matt Faris. He’d moved to Southern California from Kentucky to pursue a career in music, but he soon fell on hard times and ended up living on the street for more than a decade. “I saw beauty on the face of a man who hadn’t shaved in probably a year, because his story, the life inside of him, inspired me,” Peterson recalled. Therefore, Peterson asked if he could paint Faris’s portrait. Faris agreed.
Peterson’s connection with Faris led him to form Faces of Santa Ana, a nonprofit organization focused on befriending and painting portraits of members of the community who are unhoused. Peterson sells the paintings for money, putting half into a “love account” for his model. He then helps people use the money to get back on their feet. Many of Peterson’s new friends use the donations to secure immediate necessities — medical care, hotel rooms, food. Faris used the funds from his portrait to record an album, fulfilling his musical dreams.
Peterson has painted 41 of these portraits himself. But there’s more to the finished products than the money they bring to someone who’s down and out. He’s discovered that the buyers tend to connect to the story of the person in the painting, finding similarities and often friendship with someone they might have otherwise overlooked or stereotyped.
“People often tell me, ‘I was the one that would cross the street, but I see homeless people differently now,” Peterson says. “I didn’t know that would happen.”

The idea of two robots going on a date might sound like the start of an embarrassing Dad joke. But it has become a reality in a hilarious (非常滑稽的) new video, posted by Engineered Arts.
In the video, Ameca and Azi—two humanoid robots dubbed the "most advanced in the world"— can be seen "having a chat", while demonstrating their wide range of facial expressions. The interaction has delighted many fans, with one joking that the bots deserve their own full-length movie. "They have great chemistry; I want a movie now," the fan commented.
Ameca is described by Engineered Arts as the world's most advanced human shaped robot.

Now, Engineered Arts has unveiled a companion for Ameca called Azi, which has more masculine facial features. At the start of the video, Ameca has her eyes closed, while Azi stares at her, before waking her up. "What Oh, it's you. Why are you waking me up It had better be important." Azi tells Ameca that he has a surprise for her—a cookie. Initially, Ameca is confused, asking, "A cookie But I can't eat cookies." However, Azi goes on to explain that rather than baked food, he means an Internet cookie. His joke is quickly denied by Ameca, who wrinkles her nose in disgust, before replying, "This is the worst joke I've ever heard. I'm going back to sleep, and don't wake me up again."
"The way he angrily stares her down was so funny and creepy (令 人 毛 骨 悚 然 的 )," one fan commented. Another added, "He looked genuinely sad as she didn't like the joke." And one joked, "I would have loved this show for Saturday morning cartoons!"

Explaining the science behind memory and memory loss, as well as strategies that help people remember better is the subject of a new book co-authored by Professor and Chair of Psychology and Neuroscience Elizabeth A. Kensinger.
In Why We Forget and How to Remember Better: The Science Behind Memory, Kensinger and Boston University Professor of Neurology Andrew E. Budson examine how memories exist in the short term and how they get stored for longer-term access. The book explains how memory influences our behavior without our awareness, underlining the fact that what and how we remember influences
everything from our social relationships to the decisions we make on a daily basis.
"When most of us talk about our memory, we are referring to our ability to bring specific past events to mind," said Kensinger. "But memory is so much more than that, including all the ways our past experiences influence our current thoughts and behavior. Memory can be thought of as a powerful source of data that the brain can use to make sense of the present moment and to make predictions about the future."
Memory is an active and cyclical process, Kensinger said, similar to building a structure out of blocks. "As you experience an event, you're representing different features of the event in different regions of the brain; one portion of your brain is representing the sounds, another the sights, another the emotions," she said. "A particular region of your brain, the hippocampus, is serving as the tape that binds those blocks together, and that stores the blueprints for how to later rebuild that memory structure."
Kensinger and Budson discuss memory as a cycle because, as individuals rebuild a memory, they're likely to update it with current information—such as, has a friend changed their appearance by growing a beard, or cutting their hair Once updated or modified, these revised blueprints are stored again. "In this way, memory is a continually changing representation; it is not a static representation of the past," said Kensinger.

In the 1920s, Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik observed a strange thing. While dining out, she was impressed by the complex orders the waiters were able to remember at one time. 36 This observation gave rise to the study of what would become known as the Zeigarnik Effect.

“I have an idea to stay warm!” Tom shouted excitedly. Spreading his arms, he suggested joining the penguin huddles. Worried that the penguins wouldn’t let them, Mary hesitated but was soon
persuaded by Tom’s assuring grin. He slowly approached the crowded penguins, crouching down.
Gently stroking them with care, he whispered softly. Though startled at first, the penguins recognized Tom and let him into their group. Mary quickly followed. The children squeezed into the huddle’s
edge with the penguins. Just as the birds did, they moved toward the middle and back out as the group shifted.
Two and a half hours later, the parents returned with help. Rushing in calling for the kids, they were surprised. The children were safely surrounded by Emperors in a large bundle. When asked how they stayed warm, the kids looked at each other proudly. “We used what the Emperor Penguins do,”
they told their parents. Mary patted Tom’s shoulder with admiration, calling him a penguin whisperer. With a big smile, Tom gave credit to the penguins who taught them a lot. Their teamwork had seen
them through the difficult cold with the penguins’ aid.
