However, that afternoon, when I came home, Mom said to me ____14____, “Honey, I have some sad news to tell you. This morning, while you were at school, Tippy was hit by a car and got killed. I’m so sorry.”
“No! It’s not true!” I was in shock. I couldn’t believe her. “Tippy, come here! Come on, boy!” I called and called his name. I waited, but he didn’t come. Feeling ____15____, I stepped into the living room slowly. I didn’t cry that night. I still couldn’t believe that he was gone.

berry bush
One sunny morning during my childhood, our class were going for a berry-picking trip to a nearby field. Excitement filled the air as we held our baskets and lined up at the school gate. All my classmates talked and laughed happily.
At the berry field, things went exactly as Father predicted. Whenever someone shouted, “Look at this huge bush!” classmates would give up their area, rushing over only to find a larger bush. I remembered what happened yesterday evening. Placing a hand on my shoulder, my father said kindly, “Harry, remember this—when you find a good bush, don’t give it up easily. Stay with it until you’ve picked all the berries. Don’t keep searching for a better one that might not exist. Others might run around picking berries here and there. If you do the same, you’ll return with an empty basket. Real success comes from staying with your bush.”
There is no doubt that my classmates were busy and repeated searching all day, moving from bush to bush but collecting little. Meanwhile, I focused on one bush at a time, filling my basket slowly and surely. By sunset, my basket overflowed—three times more than others. While my classmates complained about painful legs and empty baskets, I walked home proudly, understanding Father’s wisdom.
This lesson became very important to me after my father passed away. When my workmates said, “Let’s give up this hard project!” I still kept going. When my friends told me, “Change your job to get more money!” I chose to improve my skills in my present job. As time went by, my boss noticed that I worked very hard. Five years later, I became the youngest team leader in the company.
What’s the secret We should master one thing well before we move on to the next. Today, a lot of people want to get quick success, but real success comes from being patient and sticking to something. Whether we are studying, working, or making friends, if we stick to our path, we can create long-lasting value.
24. Where did Harry’s class go on that sunny morning
A. To a forest. B. To a berry field. C. To the school gate. D. To the company.
25. What did Harry do when he found a good bush
A. He called friends to see it together. B. He followed others to collect berries.
C. He took a few berries and left quickly. D. He stayed there until he finished picking.
26. Why did Harry succeed later in life
A. He tried to get quick success. B. He worked hard to get money.
C. He kept sticking to something. D. He continued studying and working.
C
Flying has completely changed the way we travel around the world. It’s usually the fastest and most convenient way to go on long trips. But here’s a problem: it’s one of the activities that produce the most carbon for an ordinary person. In 2018, a small group of famous people in Sweden, driven by environmental worries, started the “flight shame” movement. They wanted to encourage people to give up flying. But for those who need to travel or love traveling, what other green ways are there
For medium to long trips, trains seem to be the best choice. According to a report, taking a train instead of a domestic (國內(nèi)的) flight can cut down carbon emissions (碳排放) by86%. However, there are some problems. Trains can be more expensive than cheap flights. Especially during busy travel seasons. Also, it may take many more hours to get to your place, and most people don’t want to spend a lot of their travel time just on the way. That’s why sleeper trains are a great idea. The train networks in Europe are getting bigger, with new railways being added regularly. This means passengers can sleep during the trip and wake up in a new city or country!
For short trips, many people are willing to ride bikes instead of driving cars. But few would think of cycling to another country. Matilda Welin is one of the few. It took her 17 days to ride a bike from London to Sweden. Sadly, she found that her trip neither benefited the planet nor saved her money. But it did change how she saw things. She said, “When I was travelling, I really felt the distance of the journey that I usually take so easily by plane.” She described how the world around her changed slowly, like the languages, the buildings, and the view—things she couldn’t enjoy on a flight
Unfortunately for the planet, air travel remains a popular choice. About 100,000 planes take off around the world every day. But if we spend more money in building better train systems and make train tickets cheaper, more people might choose trains over planes, which could greatly reduce carbon emissions.
27. What challenges do trains face compared to flights
A. Trains are always faster but more expensive than flights.
B. Trains are often cheaper but take much longer than flights.
C. Trains are more expensive than cheap flights and take more hours.
D. Trains are used for short—distance trip and less effective than flights.
28 What do you know about Matilda Welin’s cycling trip from the passage
A. The trip took her little time and wasted some money.
B. The trip has brought a lot of advantages to the planet.
C. She enjoyed experiencing slow changes during the trip.
D. She realized that the distance of this trip was quite short.
29. What is the passage mainly about
A. The greenest active way to travel. B. Choose green travel instead of flying
C. Serious problems of travelling by bike D. Push forward the building of train systems.
D
Have you ever thought about what really makes people achieve great things Take Galileo as an example. He wasn’t just motivated (激勵(lì)) by the wish to achieve the aim when he dropped objects with different weights from the Leaning Tower of Pisa and counted the time they took to fall to the ground. Just like Galileo, all the great people in history were curious and always asked in dissatisfaction, “Why Why Why ”
After watching how people act in different areas for many years, just like Galileo’s search, I have realized something very important. Two qualities, curiosity and dissatisfaction, set men of great achievement apart from those who have no special performance. I have never known an excellent man who lacked either. And I have never known a mediocre man who had both. The two belong together.
Luckily, we don’t need to learn curiosity and dissatisfaction. We are born with them, and we just need to bring them back.
A great man from ancient China once said “The great man is he who does not lose his child’s heart.” However, most of us do lose that childlike curiosity and dissatisfaction. We stop asking questions. We stop going against the usual ways. We just follow what others do. So, we may have to push ourselves to wake up our curiosity and dissatisfaction and keep them active.
Then, how can you start Start in a small way so that you won’t get disappointed. I have a friend who couldn’t arrange flowers to make herself happy. She was curious about how the experts did it. Now, she is one of the experts and even writes books about flower arrangement.
Another way to start is to answer the excuses you make for yourself. Do you think you don’t have any special ability and time Well, most people who have no special abilities and those with no time often manage to get things done. Harriet Stowe, a mother of six, wrote parts of Uncle Tom’s Cabin while she was cooking. Are you worried that you are too old Remember that Thomas Costain published his first novel when he was 57, and Grandma Moses showed her first pictures at the age of 78.
No matter how you start, always remember that there is no better time to start than right now, because you’ll never be more full of life than you are at this moment.
30. Why does the writer use the example of Galileo in Paragraph 1
A. To praise Galileo’s courage. B. To present great people’s qualities.
C. To prove Galileo’s achievements. D. To describe a scientific discovery.
31. What does the word “mediocre” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean
A. Common. B. Brave. C. Talented. D. Creative.
32. Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with
A. Curiosity and dissatisfaction are natural and should be rediscovered.
B. The wish to achieve the goal is the most important drive to success.
C. Success depends mainly on having special abilities and better chances.
D. Curiosity is more important for us than dissatisfaction when we are old.
33. What can we learn from the passage
A. Making excuses helps most of people start new things.
B. Losing childlike curiosity is unavoidable for everyone.
C. Women are more likely to succeed in writing than men.
D. People without much time can still make achievements.

四、閱讀表達(dá)(第3436題每題2分,第37題4分,共10分)
閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。
Nowadays, young people are more and more interested in Chinese traditional culture. Zhang Lingling is one of them.
Every month Zhang Lingling holds a party with her friends. It has become a regular and exciting event for them. At the party, all the people wear Hanfu—a type of dress worn by the ancient Han people. The Hanfu they choose is often in beautiful colors and special designs. And they sing songs along to traditional instruments or inspired by ancient poems.
“I’m really interested in clothes, songs and games based on traditional culture. I’m buying the items not just because they are Chinese — they just satisfy my aesthetic (審美) needs,” Zhang Lingling told China Daily.
Like Zhang, there are many young people who are attracted by Hanfu. A report given out by a popular Chinese short—video platform in February shows that over 10 million of the platform’s users loved videos showing Hanfu.
Many Hanfu are made by professional traditional clothing workshops. Caoxian is the most famous place for making Hanfu in China. Nearly 100, 000 people are working in the Hanfu factories. Its online Hanfu sales reached 57. 9 billion yuan
When people wear Hanfu, they seem to travel back in time. It is not only a kind of clothing but also a symbol of national identity (身份) and cultural heritage (遺產(chǎn)). Nowadays, more and more young people like to wear Hanfu in festivals or cultural activities. It makes the ancient Hanfu culture come alive again and wearing Hanfu is the best way for young people to show their national identity. They want to tell the world who they are, and they are willing to show Chinese traditional culture to the world.
While some prefer inheriting (繼承) traditional Chinese culture, others are putting changes on it to be closer to the young generation. In clothing design, traditional Chinese clothes such as Hanfu have got a new look. Designers use new materials and modern styles to make Hanfu more beautiful. They may put on some decorations to make new—style Hanfu. Young people can wear these new Hanfu in daily life or at special events, which shows they like both tradition and fashion.
