Dating back to the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Qingyan Town was built for military (軍事的) reasons. Through years of improving, Qingyan Town has become a special ancient town with Ming and Qing dynasty traditions.
Qingyan Ancient Town was built completely of stone. Visitors can see city walls built right on the cliffs (懸崖), which divide Qingyan into inner and outer towns. ① “Drink eight cups of water.” We’ve all heard the advice. But if you fall short, don’t worry. That advice is probably wrong, anyway. That’s according to a new research. It found that for most healthy adults, drinking eight cups of water a day is unnecessary. But nor is it dangerous. If you do drink eight cups of water, you are probably just going to be spending more time in the bathroom.
②In fact, this misunderstanding has something to do with the suggestion before. Early in 1945, the U.S. National Research Council (國家研究委員會) advised adults to drink about 1.9 liters (升) of water daily. The suggestion is about a person’s total daily intake (攝入) of water from fruit, vegetables and soup. But it has been widely misunderstood. Many people believe they should drink eight glasses of water every day.
③ So, how much water do you need to drink daily The study found that it’s different from one person to another. It depends on your age, size, physical activity and the weather in your city.
④ Our needs for water are the highest between the ages of 20 and 50. After that, the needs slowly go down. That’s because our metabolism (新陳代謝) slows down after the age of 50, and our needs for water go down, too.
⑤ Also, since men usually have larger bodies than women, they need more water. People whose jobs need more physical activities need more water than those who work in the office. And people who live in the place with hot weather need more water than those who live in the place with cold weather.
⑥ All in all, most of you don’t have to worry about not having enough water yet. And you don’t really have to work out how much water you need by measuring (測量) your size and physical activity. Just drink whenever you are thirsty. Water is the best choice. Coffee and tea are fine as well. But try not to have drinks with sugar. They can cause a lot of health problems.
29. Which picture shows the right relations between X and Y
X: our age
Y: our needs for water
A. B.
C. D.
30. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refers to ________
A. the misunderstanding of drinking water advice
B. the amount of water people need to drink daily
C. the new research on drinking water
D. the suggestion from the U.S. National Research Council
31. What’s the best structure of this passage
A. B.
C. D.
32. According to the passage, we can infer that ________.
A. People should carry a water bottle to measure their water intake
B. having drinks with sugar is bad for people’s health
C. children need more water than people aged between 20 and 50
D. women usually do more physical activities than men in their jobs
D
Have you ever found yourself trying to be overly nice to someone, even if it didn’t come naturally This often happens at work. People usually do this to avoid (避免) hurting others’ feelings or causing problems. However, it’s important to understand that being overly nice can sometimes lead to worse results.
One reason is that people who are too nice often don’t share their real thoughts and feelings. For example, when they should give honest feedback (反饋), they just say “good job” instead. Also, if someone doesn’t do well at work, being nice by not pointing out them their mistakes can make things worse. That’s because they won’t have a chance to get better. What’s more, being overly nice can also lead to more anxiety (焦慮). When you avoid talking about problems, they don’t disappear—they stay hidden (隱藏的) and build up stress and worry. For example, if your friend keeps cutting you off when you talk, being too nice might make you afraid to ask them to stop. This silence then causes stress every time you chat, and the problem never goes away.
What should we do about this First, have the courage to voice your feelings. If something troubles you, express it kindly. For example, share your thoughts in a caring way instead of staying silent. Second, give specific feedback (具體的反饋). Instead of saying “good job”, be specific. Try: “I really liked how you organized the activities in this meeting.” Specific words help others understand what they did well and what they can keep doing in the future. Third, remember that different opinions are okay. Discussing differences can make teams stronger. Being honest doesn’t mean being unkind—it means caring enough to help others grow and making sure everyone does their best.
In short, being honest and direct helps us to do better in relationships and teamwork. Sometimes, this matters more than being overly nice.
閱讀短文并完成文章梗概,每空不超過三個單詞。
Summary The passage tells us that being overly nice can cause ____33____. It may make people afraid to share real thoughts, stop others from getting better and ____34____ anxiety to people. For example, people may give praise instead of specific feedback. To solve this, we should be brave to express feelings kindly, offer specific feedback and accept ____35____. The writer wants to encourage us to be honest and direct instead of being overly nice. He hopes we can balance kindness with honesty, to ____36____ relationships and teamwork.

The Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia and the third-longest in the world, is of great importance to China.
It starts from the glaciers (冰川) of the Geladandong Peak in the Tanggula Mountains of Qinghai Province. Then it runs through 11 provincial-level regions including Tibet, Sichuan, and finally flows into the East China Sea in Shanghai. Along its way, many large and small tributaries (支流), like the Yalong River, Min River, and Han River, join it, making the Yangtze River more powerful.
The Yangtze River Basin (盆地) is rich in natural resources. There are large areas of forests in the upper reaches (上游), and the middle and lower reaches (中下游) are known as the “land of fish and rice” because of the fertile (肥沃的) land for farming. What’s more, the river provides plenty of water for drinking, irrigation (灌溉) and industrial (工業用的) use.
It also plays a significant (顯著的) role in transportation. The Yangtze River is called the “Golden Waterway” as ships can travel along it for a long distance. Big cities like Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing, and Shanghai are all located along the river, and they have developed rapidly due to the convenient water transportation.
Moreover, the Yangtze River has a long history and rich culture. There are many historical sites and cultural heritages (遺產) along the river, such as the Three Gorges Dam (三峽大壩), which is one of the largest hydropower (水力電力) stations in the world.
