In 1880,Wilson Bentley got an old microscope(顯微鏡)from his mother for his birthday.It was an unusual gift for the 15-year-old farm boy.When other boys of his age were playing outside or helping on the farm,he lost himself in a new world under the microscope.Among all the things under his new toy,he liked snowflakes(雪花)the best.
Whenever it snowed,Bentley would collect snowflakes and spend hours in a cold room with his microscope.After a lot of careful work,he found that each piece of snowflake was different.To share his findings with others,Bentley hurried to draw what he saw before the snowflakes were gone.
A few years later,Bentley saw an advertisement for a camera and wanted to buy one.
