One day, a young man was walking in the vast desert. The sun was shining brightly overhead, making the sand beneath his feet extremely hot. He had been walking for a long time and felt very thirsty. His throat was dry, and his body was begging for water.
Just then, as he was struggling to move forward, he suddenly found a spring of delicious and clear water. The water was gushing out from the ground, forming a small pool. It sparkled under the sunlight, looking so inviting. The water was cool and sweet for a man who had expected it for such a long time. He was overjoyed and quickly bent down. He cupped his hands and scooped up the water, drinking a lot in one go. The refreshing water seemed to bring him back to life. After quenching his thirst, he thought of his village and his kind teacher who had taught him in middle school. He decided to share this wonderful discovery with his teacher. So he took out his old leather bottle and filled it with the clear water carefully, imagining how happy his teacher would be when receiving this special gift.
After a four-day journey under the hot sun and through the endless sand dunes, he finally arrived at his village. He rushed to his teacher’s house and gave the water to the old man. The old man, with a warm smile on his wrinkled face, took a deep drink. He then smiled even more warmly and thanked his student sincerely for the sweet water. The young man, seeing his teacher’s happy expression, returned to his home with a light and happy heart.
Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. The student took a sip and spat it out at once, saying it was terrible. In fact, it had gone bad because of the old leather bottle which had affected the taste of the water. The student was confused and asked his teacher, “Master, the water was bad and it was bitter. Why did you lie to him that you liked it ”
The teacher replied with a kind look in his eyes, “You only tasted the water while I tasted the gift. The water was full of love and kindness from my dear student. In my heart, nothing could be sweeter than this.”
This simple story shows us that sometimes, the value of a gift doesn’t lie in its physical quality but in the love and kindness it contains.

A. Because he didn’t like the taste of spring water.
B. Because the water was too warm.

10. What is the main message of the story

Nowadays, mobile phones are everywhere in our daily lives. They have become very important to us.
We use mobile phones for many things. Making phone calls helps us talk to others, even if they are far away. Sending messages is quick and easy—we can share ideas or say hello in seconds. Mobile phones also work as cameras. We can take photos of happy moments, like family parties or beautiful scenery, and share them with others. Listening to music on phones is convenient. We can enjoy our favorite songs when walking or relaxing. There are also games for fun when we are bored. The search function helps us find information quickly, whether for homework or news.
However, using mobile phones too much is bad for us. First, it harms our eyes. Looking at the screen for a long time, especially in the dark, can cause eye fatigue and nearsightedness. Many students spend hours on their phones, which increases the risk of vision problems. Second, using phones before bed affects our sleep. The screen’s light makes it hard to fall asleep, so we feel tired the next day. Third, using phones while walking or driving is dangerous. It distracts us and may lead to accidents.
To use mobile phones properly, we should limit screen time. For example, we can set one hour each day for non-essential use. Taking breaks every 20 minutes to rest our eyes is important. Also, we must avoid using phones in dangerous situations, like crossing the street. By using phones wisely, we can enjoy their benefits without harm.
11. What CAN’T we do with mobile phones according to the passage
A. Make phone calls. B. Read books. C. Send messages. D. Play games.
12. What is the first bad effect of using mobile phones too much
A. It can affect our sleep. B. It can be dangerous.
C. It can cause eye problems. D. It can waste our time.
13. Why is it difficult to fall asleep when we use mobile phones before going to bed
A. Because the phone rings often.
B. Because the light from the screen disturbs us.
C. Because we are too excited to sleep.
D. Because we are thinking about the messages.
14. What does the underlined word “limit” mean in Chinese
A. 增加 B. 延長 C. 限制 D. 放棄
15. What is the best title for this passage
A. The Use of Mobile Phones
B. The Problems of Mobile Phones
C. How to Use Mobile Phones Properly
D. The Advantages and Disadvantages of Mobile Phones
