A. owned(擁有);B.wanted(想要);C.forgot(忘記);D.found(發現)。 wanted(想要)"符合"表達愿望"的語境。故選B。
A. make(制作);B.borrow(借);C.accept(接受);D.afford(負擔得起)。根據"expensive(昂貴的)"和"poor family(貧困家庭)"可知,此處指經濟上無法"負擔"。"afford(負擔得起)"直接關聯價格高低與購買能力。故選D。
A. went shopping(去購物);B.did chores(做家務);C.took a walk(散步);D.had dinner(吃晚餐)。 went shopping(去購物)"與"挑選禮物"直接對應。故選A。
A. toy gun(玩具槍);B.pogo stick(彈簧單高蹺);C.tool(工具);D.broom(掃帚)。 pogo stick(彈簧單高蹺)"是作者的核心訴求。故選B。

A. purpose(目的);B.promise(承諾);C.advice(建議);D.luck(運氣)。 No such luck!"

A. but(但是);B.so(因此);C.and(并且);D.or(或者)。根據句意可知," got some nice gifts(不錯的禮物)"與"didn't get the present that I really wanted.(未得到真正想要的)"之間為轉折關系,原因轉折連詞"but(但是)"明確對比前后情況。故選A。

For as long as we can remember, one of the most popular ways parents use to punish their children has been the "time out".
It seems that it is a good idea: the child sits on his own to reflect(反思) on what he has done. Then, when the time is up, he will apologize and learn from the mistake.
However, just because it's something that's been done for years, that doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. In fact, very often, children don't sit nicely and think about what they've done. Instead, they need to be told a few (or many) times to go back to their places and stay quiet. They're not reflecting on why they are in the "time out" at all. More likely than not, they're probably just really angry, and so are the parents. In the end, both the parents and the children make each other unhappy, or even angry.
What can parents do to change this situation You may have already heard of things like peaceful parenting(育兒) and gentle parenting. These focus on the relationship between parent and child through building trust and love. So, instead of starting a "time out", try something called "time in". A "time in" needs both parent and child to stay close until both get calm. After that, the parent and child can discuss what happened and solve the problem together. If the child can make changes, everyone can then move on.
As we all know, punishment and violence(暴力) seldom work and will never teach the children what the right way to act is. A "time in" can be the great time for the children to learn through mistakes. Kids learn how to build their emotional and social skills through difficult situations. So, instead of punishing them for acting their age, we can use chances to teach and guide them to a place of learning.
A "time in" may take more time, but it does work.
19.During a "time out", a child is told to ____.
A.stay outside B.make a promise
C.sit alone and reflect D.return to school
20.In the writer's opinion, a "time out" ____.
A.is becoming more popular
B.doesn't always work
C.should be parents' first choice
D.takes too much time
21.When a child has done something wrong, the writer suggests that ____.
A.both teachers and parents discuss how to solve the problem
B.parents try something called "time in" instead of "time out"
C.the child say sorry to his or her parents and learn from mistakes
D.the child stay at home and reflect until he never makes mistake
22.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A.Why Not "Time In" B.Learn From Mistakes
C."Time Out" or "Time In" D.No Violence at Home!
【答案】19.C
20.B

It seems that it is a good idea: the child sits on his own to reflect(反思) on what he has done."(這似乎是個好主意:孩子獨自坐著反思自己的行為。)
However, just because it's something that's been done for years, that doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. In fact, very often, children don't sit nicely and think about what they've done."(然而,僅僅因為它已經被做了很多年,并不意味著這是正確的做法。
So, instead of starting a 'time out', try something called 'time in'."(因此,與其開始"計時隔離",不如嘗試一種叫做"計時共處"的方法。)可知,作者建議用"time in"代替"time out"。故選B。
A 'time in' may take more time, but it does work."("計時共處"可能需要更多時間,但它確實有效)。選項A(Why Not "Time In" )以反問句形式突出作者對"time in"的支持,貼合文章主旨。故選A。

My dear boys and girls, good morning. Today I'm going to talk to you, about my understanding of learning history.
Many of you may think it is a terrible thing to study history. You may often wonder why we students should study something that has nothing to do with our own lives. If you think that way, I should say you are far from the truth.
In fact, if we study history, we can learn quite a lot about personal stories and events(事件) of people just like us. The people who came before us helped build and develop the country we are living in. Their ideas often solved many of our problems and troubles. Studying the past helps us to understand what our ancestors' lives were like. And it also helps us to see how their experiences have shaped our own life.
To be honest, . Some of what we study in history helps us understand the mistakes of the past. And these mistakes will help people not to do the same wrong things. People often learn from the past to have a better future.
Whether we like the subject of history or not, we must understand the importance of the events and the people who came before us. Our ancestors' decisions have influenced our own life. Similarly, the decisions of our own generation will finally influence those who come after us. In this only way, the world is truly connected.
History is not just a study of the past. History is the study of people, places, and events that can influence the future.

Do you get in trouble for feeding your dog on food from dinner under the table A new study suggests that by sharing "people food", you might actually be helping to keep your pet healthy.
Many dogs are fed dry processed food. Science has shown that a diet of processed food is not healthy for humans. Scientists from the University of Helsinki, in Finland, says this diet is not good for our pet dogs, either.
The scientists discovered that the foods a dog might find in an owner's home─ such as eggs, fish, meat and vegetables─may be better than a diet of just dog food. This is because having different kinds of food leads to more variety(多樣性) in microbes, which are little living things, too small to be seen with our eyes. There are millions of them in human and animal bodies. Some are bad for us, but many are good for us, and they play important roles in helping us digest(消化) food.
A total of 8,500 young pet dogs took part in the study. 4,500 of them were under 6 months old, and the rest were between 6 and 18 months old. The owners were asked about what foods they had fed their pets and how often. When the dogs reached adulthood, their owners reported that about 20% of the dogs showed CE symptoms(慢性腸胃不適癥狀) such as weight loss. However, if dogs had been fed a mixed diet while young, it was 22% less possible for them to experience CE symptoms later in life.
Dr. Anna Hielm-Bjorkman told The Times of London, "Dog foods on sale are described as providing a complete diet...But what we show is that variety is important. Nobody would give 12 years of the same food to a child ———why should a dog be different "

No Wasting on Food
Recently, many restaurants in our country have joined the "Clearing Your
Plate" campaign(活動) against wasting food by offering smaller dishes.
……
No Wasting on Food
Recently, many restaurants in our country have joined the "Clearing Your
Plate" campaign(活動) against wasting food by offering smaller dishes.
Many people around us also pay more attention to saving food in their daily life. A number of people have realized the importance of saving food. I believe it is meaningful for us to take an active part in this activity. It is a waste of food and money if we order too much food but eat too little. There are still too many poor people in the poor areas in China, and they don't have enough food to eat. Meanwhile, the environment will be polluted by the wasted food.
So what should we do First, we should eat up all the food in our plates. Second, we may order smaller dishes in the restaurant. Third, we can take the leftovers home and enjoy them later. In a word, I think it is our duty to refuse the waste of food.

27.According to the new study, dog owners ____.
A.can feed dogs on "people food"
B.must offer dry food to their dogs
C.shouldn't make food by themselves
D.had better buy more processed food
28.Paragraph 3 mainly explains why ____.
A.people should keep dogs at home
B.dogs need different kinds of foods
C.scientists study dry processed food
D.little living things stay in human bodies

A.By using pictures. B.By giving examples.
C.By telling stories. D.By listing numbers.
30.Which part of a magazine is the passage probably taken from

A. owned(擁有);B.wanted(想要);C.forgot(忘記);D.found(發現)。 wanted(想要)"符合"表達愿望"的語境。故選B。
A. make(制作);B.borrow(借);C.accept(接受);D.afford(負擔得起)。根據"expensive(昂貴的)"和"poor family(貧困家庭)"可知,此處指經濟上無法"負擔"。"afford(負擔得起)"直接關聯價格高低與購買能力。故選D。
A. went shopping(去購物);B.did chores(做家務);C.took a walk(散步);D.had dinner(吃晚餐)。 went shopping(去購物)"與"挑選禮物"直接對應。故選A。
A. toy gun(玩具槍);B.pogo stick(彈簧單高蹺);C.tool(工具);D.broom(掃帚)。 pogo stick(彈簧單高蹺)"是作者的核心訴求。故選B。
A. quietly(安靜地);B.politely(禮貌地);C.suddenly(突然地);D.certainly(確定地)。根據"my parents were busy with their chores(父母忙著做家務)"可知,暗示作者不想被發現,需悄悄行動。"quietly(安靜地)"符合"偷偷查看盒子"的語境。故選A。
A. surprised(驚訝的);B.satisfied(滿意的);C.excited(興奮的);D.relaxed(放松的)。 excited(興奮的)"與"magical box(神奇的盒子)"和"渴望禮物"的心理一致。故選C。
A. purpose(目的);B.promise(承諾);C.advice(建議);D.luck(運氣)。 No such luck!"
A. magic(神奇的);B.silly(愚蠢的;可笑的);C.different(不同的);D.smart(聰明的)。根據前文"my bright, shiny pogo stick would appear.(我明亮閃亮的彈簧棒就會出現。)" silly(可笑的)體現期待落空后的失望與滑稽感。故選B。
A. but(但是);B.so(因此);C.and(并且);D.or(或者)。根據句意可知," got some nice gifts(不錯的禮物)"與"didn't get the present that I really wanted.(未得到真正想要的)"之間為轉折關系,原因轉折連詞"but(但是)"明確對比前后情況。故選A。
A. preparing(準備);B.hiding(隱藏);C.choosing(選擇);D.carrying(攜帶)。
11.句意:我無法相信!A. understand(理解);B.decide(決定);C.believe(相信);D.explain(解釋)。
A. me(我);B.us(我們);C.him(他);D.her(她)。 故選A。
13.句意:雖然我們沒有太多金錢,但父母給了我最重要的禮物……A. courage(勇氣);B.time(時間);C.money(金錢);D.trouble(麻煩)。
A. trust(信任);B.love(愛);C.smile(微笑);D.pride(驕傲)。
A. complete(完整的);B.unbelievable(難以置信的);C.educational(有教育意義的);D.wonderful(美好的)。

A 'time in' may take more time, but it does work."("計時共處"可能需要更多時間,但它確實有效)。選項A(Why Not "Time In" )以反問句形式突出作者對"time in"的支持,貼合文章主旨。故選A。

Some of what we study in history helps us understand the mistakes of the past."(我們在歷史中學習的一些內容幫助我們理解過去的錯誤。) D(not everything that happened in the past is good)指出"過去發生的事并非都好",與后文"錯誤"形成邏輯銜接。故選D。
根據"the decisions of our own generation will finally influence those who come after us."(我們這一代的決定最終會影響后代。)
Now do you still think studying history is a sad thing (現在你還認為學習歷史是一件可悲的事嗎?)"結尾,旨在激發學生對歷史的興趣。故選B。
