I usually grab a coffee from one of the nearby cafes and take a walk around the park to admire the view.
Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art is one of the most famous museums in NYC. I still remember the first time I stood in front of Van Gogh’s Starry Night-it’s one of those moments you don’t forget. The museum is packed with modern and contemporary art from icons like Picasso, and Rothko. The layout is clean, with enough variety to keep teens, art lovers and first-time visitors all engaged.
Lincoln Center
Lincoln Center is one of the most iconic cultural landmarks in NYC, and it always feels like an event just to be there. I’ve come here for ballet, opera and live concerts. The architecture alone is worth seeing, especially at night when the plaza is shining and the fountain is lit. Even if you’re not catching a performance, you can take a guided tour, explore the nearby public art, or just sit by the fountain.

One of my earliest memories is of my father sitting me down at our kitchen table with canvases, paints, and brushes. He taught me how to blend colors and use different materials. Whenever we felt inspired, we set out all our materials and painted what our hearts desired.
My father grew up in a small village in the Dominican Republic. Despite not having many materials available, he created art with whatever he had. My father saved his money to buy paints and colored pencils to draw on the walls around his home. When he was 15, he arrived in America alone and stayed with his aunt in Florida for a while before finishing high school in New York with another aunt. He studied very hard. Eventually, my father was able to obtain his citizenship.
As I got older, he continued to give me lessons, teaching me different brush strokes and how to take care of my art supplies. He taught me to find beauty in everything and everyone around me. I grew to love drawing people, as I could highlight the physical features that make everyone unique and beautiful.
It wasn’t until I began looking carefully into my father’s paintings and the work of popular artists on Instagram that I started to be more critical of my work. I started to worry that I could never live up to my father’s talent. My simple, two-dimensional (2D) drawings fell flat compared to his realistic landscapes. Going through my sketchbooks and portfolios, I found fault in all my drawings. Art was my favorite thing in the world but I started to believe I wasn’t good at it. Instead of working toward improving, I decided to give up drawing.
My father noticed that I had been drawing and painting less and told me, “Mia, you should audition for the school. I wish I’d had an opportunity to study art like this when I was a kid.” My father’s bravery and strength are things that I desire to have. So over the next few months, I worked on my portfolio. Looking back at my pictures, I can see how much I have improved since then. The school must have seen potential in my drawings because I got in! It was eye-opening to attend a college that specializes in the arts. I learned to embrace my individuality and my talent. I have become more open about sharing my artworks and receiving constructive criticism, which raises my self-belief in my art.

However, a fundamental question remains: can AI-generated poetry truly replace the creative wisdom of human-made poetry Human poets draw on a lifetime of experiences, emotions, and cultural contexts to create their works. They use language not just as a means of communication but as a way to express the indescribable. In contrast, AI operates based on data and pattern. While it can produce technically perfect poems, it lacks the lived experiences and subjective feelings that give human poetry its quality of being true.
Poetry critics often point out that the best poems are those that resonate (共鳴) with readers, challenging their perspectives and bringing strong feelings. AI-generated poems, despite their technical complexity, often fail to achieve this emotional reflection. For instance, a human poem about love may capture the pain and joy of romantic relationships while an AI-generated poem on the same topic may seem lacking individual personality and imagination.

A new study warns that extreme temperatures, mainly heat, could cause up to 2.3 million deaths in Europe by 2100 if nations fail to reduce carbon emissions (碳排放) and adapt to hotter climates. While cold weather currently causes more deaths in Europe, researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine predict heat-related deaths will rise sharply as global warming speeds up.
Using climate models and data from 854 cities, the study finds that as it warms, cold-related deaths decline slowly, but heat deaths rise rapidly. Southern Europe — including Italy, Spain and Greece — faces the highest risks. In contrast, Scandinavia and the UK may see fewer temperature-related deaths due to milder winters. However, even with strong emission cuts and improved adaptation efforts, overall temperature-related deaths will still increase as the planet warms.
The Mediterranean region, described as a “climate hotspot”, is warming faster than other areas. Malta, for example, could see heat deaths rise by 269 per 100, 000 people by 2100, while Ireland’s rate might drop slightly. Wealthier Western European countries are in a better situation to adapt than Eastern Europe.
Recent heatwaves have already caused thousands of deaths in Europe, such as the 2003 event that killed around 70, 000. Major southern cities like Barcelona, Rome and Naples could face hundreds of thousands of additional deaths this century. Without urgent action, the study estimates over 5. 8 million heat-related deaths linked to climate change, though colder regions might see 3.5 million fewer cold-related deaths.
Experts emphasize the need for adaptation strategies, such as air conditioning, green spaces and cooling centers, especially in aging populations and older cities with limited facilities. Southern Europe’s combination of extreme heat, older housing and low air conditioning use makes it highly endangered.
“Temperatures in cities like Rome already reach dangerous levels,” says Dr. Courtney Howard, a climate health expert. “This poses severe risks for older adults and those without cooling options.” The study highlights the urgent need for global emission reductions and local climate planning to protect communities from rising heat threats.
