1) Facial recognition technology (人臉識別技術(shù)) is widely used today. For example, the police use it to search for bad guys. It’s also used to unlock phones or doors. Now, a similar technology, known as facial detection (探測), is entering a new field: the business of advertising.
2) Such systems are going through tests in a small number of stores. One facial detection system can tell a person’s “happiness” or “fear” level. That helps businesses see how people feel as they look at the products or advertisements in the store. Another system can detect whether someone is wearing eyeglasses. If so, stores can send advertisements for new glasses to him.
3) Facial detection technology is also placed inside some large advertising boards. Cameras in those boards can detect information like people’s ages and five levels of feelings—from “very happy” to “very unhappy”.
4) Supporters of the technology say it could improve buyers’ experience by showing products they might like or by offering them products at lower prices.
5) Some are against the idea of using such systems. Pam Dixon, the head of a privacy group, is one of them. She thinks the strange actions may cause something unfair. For example, a business could raise the price of a product according to a person’s age and feelings.
6) However, one store testing the technology explained they wouldn’t store people’s information like names or ages. And the advertising board system maker said it didn’t keep any personal information or record any videos.

These types of stories show children that “honesty is the best”. ____41____ The fact is that people lie for many reasons.
One reason people lie is to hide a mistake. While it is true that everyone does something wrong from time to time, some people do not have the courage to admit their mistakes because they are afraid that they will be blamed. For example, students might lie to their teachers about unfinished homework. They might say that they left the homework at home. ____42____ These students do not want to get in trouble, so they make up an excuse.
____43____ Parents, particularly those with young children, may teach their children to use this type of “protective” lie in certain circumstances (狀況). ____44____ Many parents teach their children to explain that their mother and father are too busy to come to the phone at that time. In this situation, a protective lie can mean greater safety.
____45____ Lying to keep the peace or to stay safe can have positive results. However, lying to stay out of trouble can lead to more trouble in the end. Understanding the motives behind the impulse (沖動) to lie might help you get rid of the habit of lying.
A. In fact, they did not do the homework at all.
B. But why do so many people lie
C. People lie for many reasons, both good and bad.

Xu Xiake was an explorer of the late Ming Dynasty who travelled huge mountains and deep valleys in China. He was one of the greatest explorers in Chinese history.
Xu’s travels were totally up to him and done on his own. He travelled so that his feet could feel strong winds beat his body; he travelled so that his feet could kiss the soil of the mountains.
After his death, Xu left behind his famous book, Xu Xiake’s Travels, which provides meaningful materials to the Chinese geological research. It included a record of what he saw, heard and thought about during his travels and was a personal diary that was not published during his lifetime. It was said that Xu was a filial (孝順的) son and the beginning purpose of his travel diary was to allow his mother to travel the world through his eyes at home. He followed the ancient teaching that says, “When one’s parents are alive, one must not travel to far places.” For this reason, when his mother was still alive, he mainly travelled the southeast half of the country and would not leave home for too long.
The most important part of his travels was his ten-thousand-mile journey to the southwest. He travelled from Zhejiang to Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, then Guizhou, and Yunnan. This journey took him four years and he wrote about ten times more than he did in the past. In the morning, he would be climbing the mountains and crossing rivers. At night, he would lay out a piece of paper and record his daily experiences beside an oil lamp.

Take Care of Yourself
Taking good care of ourselves is essential for a happy and balanced life. We can focus on three aspects: physical health, life skills, and mental well-being.
For physical health, we should eat a balanced diet with more fruits and vegetables, and avoid junk food. Regular exercise (like running or playing basketball) keeps us energetic, while getting 8 hours of sleep each night is vital.
When it comes to life skills, they matter too. Learning to cook or do laundry fosters independence. These skills simplify life and boost confidence—for example, cooking a meal helps us understand the effort behind daily food and feel proud of ourselves.
Mental health should never be ignored. Stay positive when facing challenges or setbacks. Sharing feelings with friends relieves stress, and activities like reading or drawing help us stay calm. Remember, failure is normal—every setback helps us grow.
By nurturing these areas, we become healthier, more independent in daily life, and resilient. Self-care isn’t just for us; it makes those who love us feel relieved. Start today—embrace a better you!
