Meg, Rudy and Hayley have some problems with their learning. They ask E-teacher for help. Read and match the problems with the advice given by E-teacher.
Problems Advice
21 Meg Hi, E-teacher. I share a bedroom and a desk with my elder sister. She continually distracts (使……分心) me because she’s noisy. I think she’s disrespectful. I’ve got exams in two weeks and I need to go over my lessons. I can’t focus when she’s studying too. If I try to have a dialogue with my sister, she gets angry. Can you help 22 Rudy My problem is time—or lack (缺乏) of it! Next month I’ve got 12 exams in three weeks. How can I possibly study for all of them I think it’s impossible. 23 Hayley My problem is silly and a bit embarrassing. I just find it hard to study. I always stop and start and I keep getting the impression that I’m learning the wrong things. I don’t think you can really help me. A Your problem is real and lots of people experience the same thing as you. Sometimes things improve if they join a study group. Set up a group and meet a few days a week after school to study together. Take turns to give presentations and teach others what you know. It’s a good practice for lots of students. B It’s common to have such stress. I think it’s helpful for you to talk about it with your teachers and good friends. They will help. Believe me! C It isn’t impossible but you DO have to get started NOW. Make a study plan and highlight (用亮色突出) study time for each subject. Make a detailed (詳盡的) plan for this week and then do the same for the weeks ahead. It’s better to study for an hour or so a day than just once a week, all day. Your brain needs time to process information. D I think you could study at the local library, cultural centre or community center a few days a week. Make sure you’ve got enough space for everything on your desk. If it’s easier to write instead of talking face to face, try messaging her and explain how terrible you feel.
B
Nina felt nervous this morning. She couldn’t believe that she decided to try out for a talent show. She loved to sing but she disliked singing in front of other people. Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door of the theater and went inside. The room was filled with laughing children. Nina saw Luz, James and others from her class. The bright, sunny room left her no place to hide. A few teachers sat on chairs. They waited for the children to become quiet.
“Hi, Nina!” Luz called out. “I didn’t think you would try out for the show. You are so timid(膽怯的) in front of people.”
“That’s not true,” Nina said. “I’m not shy at all.”
“Yeah, right,” Luz chuckled(輕聲地笑) and ran off to find a seat.
One by one the students got up on the stage(舞臺) and did their acts.
“Nina Martinez!” a voice called out. It was Mrs Brent, the music teacher. Nina rose from her chair. She felt small as she walked to the huge, empty stage. Her face was hot and her shaking hands were as cold as ice.
“I-I-” Nina began, and then stopped. “I can’t,” she said softly.
“Close your eyes,” said Mrs Brent gently. “Forget about everyone else. Just sing.”
Nina felt silly, but she gave it a try. She closed her eyes and raised her voice and sang out. Her hands stopped shaking. The song was so nice that everybody enjoyed it.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. Named after the Roman god of war, Mars, it is often described as the “Red Planet”. Mars sometimes can easily be seen from Earth with just our eyes.
Some people believe that humans could live on the planet Mars by the year 2100. At present, however, our space ships are too slow to carry large numbers of passengers to Mars—it would take months. With the development of technology, by the year 2100, the journey might only take about 20 minutes in space ships that travel at the speed of light! However, the space ship would travel so fast that the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable. Many people would feel ill.
Humans cannot live without water, oxygen(氧氣)or food. So far, nobody knows whether there would be enough water or oxygen on Mars for people there. Besides, scientists are not sure whether plants could grow on Mars. Food would most probably be in the form of pills(藥片)and would not be so delicious.
Gravity(重力)could be another problem. The gravity on Mars is only about three-eighths of that on the Earth. People would have to wear shoes that are specially designed to prevent themselves from floating(漂?。﹐ff into space.
Compared with life on the Earth, life on Mars would be better in some ways. People would have more space. They might live in houses with large comfortable rooms. Also, robots would do most of their work so that they could have more time to relax.
There would probably be no schools on Mars. Every student would have a computer at home connected to an interplanetary(星際間的)network. They would study at online schools with “e-teachers”.
Anyhow, so many problems and challenges are there, but one thing is clear: Life on Mars would be interesting as well as challenging.
27.If people flew to Mars by space ship now, it would take .
A.a few months B.2100 years C.20 minutes D.less than a month
28.Which of the following is TRUE about Mars
A.It is named after a war.
B.People will probably take pills on Mars because they feel ill.
C.People can see Mars without the help of tools.
D.The travel flying to Mars would be exciting and comfortable.
29.This article is mainly talking about .
A.the environment and the transportation on Mars
B.how people would change Mars
C.some imaginations about humans’ living on Mars
D.the environment and the schooling on Mars
D
We live in a society that judges our happiness by how much we have achieved and how successful we are. We are often told, “Work hard, become successful, and then you`ll be happy.” Is it true
Can Success Bring Happiness
Happiness helps you get success; it’s not the other way around. Studies show happier people are more likely to be successful, but successful people are predictably not more cheerful. When you are happier, you feel more hopeful, thankful, and strong-minded, which are important for success. As a result, you have a better chance of getting better jobs and even building stronger relationships.
Success can cause a short-term increase in happiness, but it cannot guarantee a lasting one. Shortly after achieving success, you return to your usual level of happiness. Moreover, depending on success for happiness often adds pressure, stress and negativity to every part of our lives. In conclusion, chasing (追求) happiness and well-being is better than running after success.
___△___
Positive psychology says that happiness is both how good we feel in the present moment and how good we feel when we look at our lived lives. Trying to lead a happy life is not always about refusing our negative emotions or acting as if we feel happy all the time. We all experience difficult periods, and it’s natural for us to feel sad, angry, and other negative emotions. Happiness is about being able to embrace (接受) the good times, but it’s also about dealing with the unavoidable bad times.
Is Happiness Being Satisfied With What You Have
Does the thought of “not having enough” trouble you all the time Are you always chasing something bigger and better At the end of the day, that kind of chase can undoubtedly leave anyone empty and tired. And in that process, you are missing out on getting happiness from plenty of things you have right now. Instead of focusing on getting more, you need to focus on all you have in your life at the present moment. When you start sharing what you have, you find your happiness continuously increasing.
Sure, you can work hard for success. But success won’t necessarily lead to happiness. True happiness is in the climb itself. So, focus on being happy right now. Be proud of where you are in life and who you are. Be happy first, and embrace the journey to success. Then you’ll be able to achieve more and perform better in many areas of your life, and you’ll also enjoy the journey to your goals.

During the past three years in our school, my English teacher Miss Li has left the deepest impression on me. She is patient and always wears a warm smile. She has the magic to make learning fun.
From her, I’ve learned more than just English. She taught me to be confident. Once, I failed a test and felt upset. She encouraged me, saying, “Believe in yourself, and you’ll make progress.” Her words gave me the courage to keep trying.

Dear Lin Yue,
Thanks for your letter. I’ve been in Beijing for two months now and I’m really enjoying my time here. At first, the Chinese language was a bit challenging, but my Chinese has improved a lot thanks to my classmates and teachers. The food is fantastic. I’ve tried Peking duck and hot pot, both of which I love. The people here are very polite and friendly, though I had to get used to the way chopsticks are used during meals. Overall, it’s been an enlightening experience, and I’m learning something new every day.
Hope to hear more about your life in France soon.
Yours,
Laura
