And then she heard the beat of her daddy's heart. The heart beat steadily, unconcerned about the damage to the rest of the body. And while she rested there, the magic happened. The little girl heard what she wanted to hear. His heart beat out the words that his mouth could no longer say — I love you, little girl! And she was comforted and cried out, “I love you, Daddy, with all my heart.” As she knew, this would be the last time she would ever hear or say “I love you”.

(2021·新高考Ⅰ卷·閱讀理解B篇)By day, Robert Titterton is a lawyer. In his spare time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova — not as a musician but as her page turner. “I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.”
Mr Titterton is chairman of the Omega Ensemble but has been the group's official page turner for the past four years. His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score so the musician doesn't have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves. He said he became just as nervous as those playing instruments on stage.
“A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don't turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot.” Mr Titterton explained.
Being a page turner requires plenty of practice. Some pieces of music can go for 40 minutes and require up to 50 page turns, including back turns for repeat passages. Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of “nodding” to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.
But like all performances, there are moments when things go wrong. “I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages to fall off the stand,” Mr Titterton said, “Luckily I was able to catch them and put them back.”
Most page turners are piano students or up-and-coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage.
“My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’ Robert is the best page turner I've had in my entire life.”
1.What should Titterton be able to do to be a page turner
A.Read music. B.Play the piano.
C.Sing songs. D.Fix the instruments.
根據第一段最后一句“I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.” 故選A。

2.Which of the following best describes Titterton's job on stage
A.Boring. B.Well-paid.
C.Demanding. D.Dangerous.
根據第三段中的“A lot of skills are needed for the job.”和第四段中的“Being a page turner requires plenty of practice.”

3.What does Titterton need to practise
A.Counting the pages.
B.Recognizing the “nodding”.
C.Catching falling objects.
D.Performing in his own style.

根據第四段最后一句“Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of ‘nodding’ to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.”
4.Why is Ms Raspopova's husband “the worst page turner”?
A.He has very poor eyesight.
B.He ignores the audience.
C.He has no interest in music.
D.He forgets to do his job.
根據最后一段中的“He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say:‘Turn, turn!’”

(2025·丹東模擬)Standing on a school stage, the master swings his arms and moves his body as he conducts an orchestra. The 70 young musicians keep a sharp focus on the master's white baton (指揮棒) as it shoots upward, downward, and sideways.
Michael Morgan was six years old when his father moved a neighbor's unwanted piano into their living room. He started piano lessons, but it was when he saw a conductor leading an orchestra on television that he realized what he really wanted to do. At age eight, he began reading The Joy of Music by conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and figured out how to direct with a baton. After graduating from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Michael worked under Bernstein. “Conducting is a thing you learn by apprenticing (當學徒).
You do more watching than anything else,” Morgan says. Even after Morgan had graduated from Oberlin, Bernstein's masterful teaching continued to influence him.
Morgan is committed to offering kids a chance to explore classical music. In his hometown, he started to volunteer in local schools, conducting student orchestras and talking with kids about music. Morgan is also the music director and conductor of the Oakland Symphony. He works with teachers in after-school programs to reach students who can't afford lessons.
Morgan is focused and works very hard. “He's mastermind behind all of these programs,” says Elizabeth, Oakland Symphony Education Coordinator. “He is in an amazing harmony with students. He is really serious in getting down to his business.”
Morgan says his work is mostly about providing young people with an entrance into music. “Instruments give kids a way of emotional expression, a source of pride, and an interest they can carry with them through life. Young musicians come from many different cultures and communities. But with instruments in hand, their hearts sing as one,” he says.

(2025·河南名校聯考)Two languages worldwide are lost every week. Cherokee is a highly endangered Native American language. Currently, there are fewer than 2,000 speakers of the language remaining in the world, and the number is declining every year. Keeping a language alive can strengthen people's sense of identity and most importantly, lead to the preservation of a whole culture. The creation of an album of original songs performed in the Cherokee language is one of the most original methods.
Cherokee and non-Cherokee music artists decided to create a music album in the Cherokee language. This is part of a project to preserve this ancient, fading language. The album features a dozen Cherokee artists and includes a real variety of genres (類型) ranging from folk, country, and heavy metal to hip hop.
There are different ways to keep a language alive, and the album intends to bring a modern approach to the revitalization (復興) of the Cherokee language. One promising strategy is to introduce it to young people, and what better route than to use the language of contemporary music to achieve such a meaningful goal.
“Wherever our kids are, our language needs to be there, too,” the executive director of the Cherokee Nation Language Department, Howard Paden, explained. “Our belief is very simple. The Cherokee language is so powerful that people can enjoy using it very easily and are unable to stop using it. If we can get the language around to people and make the language enter their hearts at a very young age, then they will always be connected with who we are as a people.”
Multilingualism (多語種主義) is very powerful since it provides a different way of understanding and perceiving the world. This can result in technological and scientific advancement for humankind. So preserving endangered languages like Cherokee is not only about helping specific communities affected but also about recognizing and celebrating diversity as one of humankind's greatest strengths.

(2025·南京調研)At the age of 12, I withdrew into my bedroom with my guitar. I had neither musical talent — many 9 music lessons had proved that — nor musical training. My fingers ached as I tried to press down on the strings without making them buzz (發出嗡嗡聲). 10 , I worked my way through 2-,3- and even 5-chord (和弦) songs and discovered the 11 thrills of these musical notes. No one 12 me
to do this. I did this myself and of my own free will for a week, and the sense of happiness — true happiness 13 in absorption in something — has 14 me. Fifty years later, that week's self-directed practice became a model and 15 for almost every meaningful thing I have done since. It makes me understand the 16 between achievement and accomplishment.
The world favors achievement while 17 accomplishment. The former is the completion of the task imposed (強加) from the outside — the 18 being a path to the next task. The latter is the end point of an activity we have chosen, whose bonus is the sudden 19 of happiness.
The seeking of accomplishment always 20 people. I learned so long ago in that 21 week that simply lifting one finger from the guitar's C chord, you should get the most moving 22 in tune. I didn't know then it was a major 7th chord, a favorite of some masters'. I just 23 accomplishment. That's real human “achievement”.
9.A.added B.tailored

10.A.Besides B.Instead
C.Therefore D.However

11.A.fruitless B.matchless
C.effortless D.senseless

18.A.origin B.process
C.decision D.reward

Music is arguably the most life-enriching academic subject. 1 . It can bring lots of important benefits to your child's education, many of which you may not have considered before.
Increase language capabilities
Music and language have a far-reaching relationship. Musical training stimulates the same part of the brain that deals with understanding language. Children who have some exposure to musical education will, therefore, have a greater understanding of tones and how different phrases are arranged. 2 .
Improve hand-eye coordination (協調)

Bring about a sense of achievement
When your child does achieve a musical goal, they get the incredible satisfaction that comes from working hard to obtain something. 5 . Self-trust is one of the most valuable skills a child can have and music is one of the best ways to allow it to develop in your child.

根據空前句“Children who have some exposure to musical education will, therefore, have a greater understanding of tones and how different phrases are arranged.”
空后“It takes considerable hand-eye coordination to learn almost any instrument.”
根據段中的“Music is a great way for your child to meet new people and create lasting friendships.”
5.選C 根據空后的“Self-trust is one of the most valuable skills a child can have and music is one of the best ways to allow it to develop in your child.”

(2025·濰坊模擬)Nanyin is a form of ancient Chinese music. It dates back to the Han Dynasty 1 people from Central Plains of ancient China brought their music to Quanzhou, Fujian Province. Later it mixed 2 the local music.
Nanyin is 3 (traditional) played by a group of five people. The singer, who also plays the wooden clapper (拍板) to keep the beat, stands in the middle of the other four. Usually, on the left are two musicians who play a bamboo flute 4 (call) dongxiao and erxian while on the right are two musicians 5 (play) pipa and sanxian. As for the unique singing style, which is usually sung in the southern Fujian dialect (方言), every song tells a story.
However, Nanyin was nearly destroyed during 6 mid-nineteenth century. Despite 7 (preserve), the art lost a lot of its audience. Melody of Self-Discovery
Sitting at the piano, Sarah was picturing her first piano performance in her mind, only to find herself lost in thought. The annoying doubt again crept into her mind. She just couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty within her. What had driven her to take up piano lessons in the first place Was it simply a short-lived urge, or had she been passionate about music all along
As her fingers idly traced the keys, Sarah reflected on her journey thus far. She remembered the excitement she felt when she first sat down at the piano, the thrill of producing her first few notes. But as the weeks passed and the lessons grew more challenging, doubts began to creep into her mind.
“Sarah, do you have a clear goal in mind?” Mrs Thompson's words echoed in her memory. The gentle encouragement from her piano teacher only served to deepen Sarah's sense of unease. Did she genuinely love playing the piano What was she playing for And most importantly, did she truly have what it took to succeed in the world of music
During her practice, Sarah found herself troubled with these questions, her fingers pausing and hesitating over the keys as her mind wandered. She couldn't help but compare herself to her classmates, who seemed to effortlessly master each new piece while she struggled to keep up.
The weight of self-doubt grew heavier with each passing day, weakening her passion for music altogether. Deep down, Sarah knew that her love for the piano burned bright, even if it was dimmed by clouds of uncertainty.
As Sarah sat at the piano, the answer to Mrs Thompson's question slowly became clear to her. With each practiced note, each perfected passage, she realized that she didn't just love playing the piano — she needed it. The music was a part of her, an expression of her deepest emotions and desires.
Driven by this newfound clarity, Sarah threw herself into her practice tasks with renewed energy. Day after day, she poured her heart and soul into her music, determined to showcase her passion and talent to the world.

As the day of her first public performance approached, Sarah grew more nervous once again. Doubt and uncertainty crept in, casting a shadow over her excitement. But just when she felt like giving in to her fears, she caught sight of Mrs Thompson in the audience. With a reassuring smile and a nod of firm belief, she reminded Sarah of all she had achieved. With renewed confidence, Sarah took her place on stage, her fingers touched the keys. As she began to play, she was transported to another world, completely immersed in the music she was creating. Every note was filled with emotion and her love for music.
As the final chords sounded loud and clear, Sarah held her breath, waiting for the audience's reaction. And then, as the applause filled the concert hall, she knew that she had succeeded. The praise and admiration of the audience washed over her, reaffirming her true love for music and her talent. At that moment, Sarah realized that she had made it. The doubts and uncertainties were now a distant memory, replaced by a sense of purpose and achievement. With her teacher's encouragement and her own strong determination, she knew that she was destined for greatness in the world of music.|背|單|詞|

Most page turners are piano students or up and coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage.
“My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’ Robert is the best page turner I've had in my entire life.”

(2025·丹東模擬)Standing on a school stage, the master swings his arms and moves his body as he conducts an orchestra. The 70 young musicians keep a sharp focus on the master’s white baton (指揮棒) as it shoots upward, downward, and sideways.
Michael Morgan was six years old when his father moved a neighbor’s unwanted piano into their living room. Even after Morgan had graduated from Oberlin, Bernstein’s masterful teaching continued to influence him.
Morgan is committed to offering kids a chance to explore classical music. In his hometown, he started to volunteer in local schools, conducting student orchestras and talking with kids about music. Morgan is also the music director and conductor of the Oakland Symphony. He works with teachers in after school programs to reach students who can’t afford lessons.
Morgan is focused and works very hard. “He’s mastermind behind all of these programs,” says Elizabeth, Oakland Symphony Education Coordinator.

Keeping a language alive can strengthen people’s sense of identity and most importantly, lead to the preservation of a whole culture. The creation of an album of original songs performed in the Cherokee language is one of the most original methods.
Cherokee and non Cherokee music artists decided to create a music album in the Cherokee language.
So preserving endangered languages like Cherokee is not only about helping specific communities affected but also about recognizing and celebrating diversity as one of humankind’s greatest strengths.
5.What’s the purpose of the first paragraph
A.To describe the features of the Cherokee language.
B.To stress the importance of learning different languages.
C.To explain why artists make the Cherokee music album.
D.To introduce the development of the Cherokee language.
6.What is the typical characteristic of the Cherokee music album
A.Diverse.B.Beautiful.C.Mysterious.D.Popular.
7.What does Howard Paden imply
A.The Cherokee language is very addictive.
B.Young people should love music in their hearts.
C.The Cherokee language is difficult for people to learn.
D.Young people should learn how to connect with others.
8.What is the best title for the text

C.Preserving endangered languages needs great efforts
D.An artistic approach to preserving a language is on track

Melody of Self Discovery
Sitting at the piano, Sarah was picturing her first piano performance in her mind, only to find herself lost in thought. The annoying doubt again crept into her mind. She just couldn’t shake the feeling of uncertainty within her. What had driven her to take up piano lessons in the first place Was it simply a short lived urge, or had she been passionate about music all along
As her fingers idly traced the keys, Sarah reflected on her journey thus far. She remembered the excitement she felt when she first sat down at the piano, the thrill of producing her first few notes. But as the weeks passed and the lessons grew more challenging, doubts began to creep into her mind.
“Sarah, do you have a clear goal in mind ” Mrs Thompson’s words echoed in her memory. The gentle encouragement from her piano teacher only served to deepen Sarah’s sense of unease. Did she genuinely love playing the piano What was she playing for And most importantly, did she truly have what it took to succeed in the world of music
During her practice, Sarah found herself troubled with these questions, her fingers pausing and hesitating over the keys as her mind wandered. She couldn’t help but compare herself to her classmates, who seemed to effortlessly master each new piece while she struggled to keep up.
The weight of self doubt grew heavier with each passing day, weakening her passion for music altogether. Deep down, Sarah knew that her love for the piano burned bright, even if it was dimmed by clouds of uncertainty.
As Sarah sat at the piano, the answer to Mrs Thompson’s question slowly became clear to her. With each practiced note, each perfected passage, she realized that she didn’t just love playing the piano — she needed it. The music was a part of her, an expression of her deepest emotions and desires.
Driven by this newfound clarity, Sarah threw herself into her practice tasks with renewed energy. Day after day, she poured her heart and soul into her music, determined to showcase her passion and talent to the world.
注意:1.續寫詞數應為150左右;
As the day of her first public performance approached, Sarah grew more nervous once again.
As the final chords sounded loud and clear, Sarah held her breath, waiting for the audience’s reaction.

[A]
根據第二段中“He started piano lessons, but it was when he saw a conductor leading an orchestra on television that he realized what he really wanted to do.”
根據第三段中“In his hometown ... can’t afford lessons.”可知,Morgan很熱心;根據第四段中“Morgan is focused and works very hard.”和“He is really serious in getting down to his business.”
根據第四段中Elizabeth說的話“He’s mastermind behind all of these programs”和“He is in an amazing harmony with students. He is really serious in getting down to his business.”
根據最后一段中“Young musicians come from many different cultures and communities. But with instruments in hand, their hearts sing as one”可知,來自不同文化和社區的音樂家通過音樂將心合而為一,由此推知,音樂具有彌合文化鴻溝、團結人民的力量,故選C。
[B]
Native American language.”以及“Keeping a language alive ... the most original methods.”
根據第二段中“The album features ... and heavy metal to hip hop.”
根據第四段的“The Cherokee language ... stop using it.”
根據全文內容,尤其第一段中“The creation of an album ... the most original methods.”
12.選C 根據下文的“I did this myself and of my own free will for a week”可知,作者這樣做是沒人要求(required)的,是自愿的。
13.選B 根據上文的“I worked my way through ... thrills of these musical notes”可知,作者專注于練習吉他,并體會到音符帶來的無與倫比的興奮。
14.選D 根據下文的“Fifty years later, that week’s self directed practice ... I have done since.”
19.選C 根據上文的“discovered the thrills of these musical notes”和“the sense of happiness — true happiness in absorption in something”可知,那個星期的自我指導實踐讓作者感受到了真正的幸福。 a sudden rush of happiness“突然感到的幸福”。
21.選C 根據上文的“Fifty years later ... every meaningful thing I have done since.”
根據空前句“Children who have some exposure to musical education will, therefore, have a greater understanding of tones and how different phrases are arranged.”
空后“It takes considerable hand eye coordination to learn almost any instrument.”
根據段中的“Music is a great way for your child to meet new people and create lasting friendships.”
5.選C 根據空后的“Self trust is one of the most valuable skills a child can have and music is one of the best ways to allow it to develop in your child.”
As the final chords sounded loud and clear, Sarah held her breath, waiting for the audience’s reaction. With her teacher’s encouragement and her own strong determination, she knew that she was destined for greatness in the world of music.
