On January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek introduced a new AI called DeepSeek-R1.
This smart program can do many things, such as solving math problems and answering questions. Many people
think DeepSeek-R1 is special because it is not only powerful but also low-cost, which means anyone can use and
improve it!
DeepSeek-R1 has many advantages. It uses a smart design called the “Mixture-of-Experts” architecture (混
合專家架構). This makes DeepSeek-R1 able to do many tasks quickly. It also uses less computing power (計算
能力) than some other big AI models, like GPT-40. This means it can run on less powerful computers.
Besides, DeepSeek-R1 is really good at understanding both Chinese and English. Whether for
Chinese-speaking users or English-speaking users, it can help them write texts in different kinds of styles
according to their requirements. How helpful it is!
What’s more, DeepSeek-Rl can be very useful for students. It can provide good ideas for their homework,
suggest fun ways to study, and help students understand difficult problems. DeepSeek-Rl can also make learning
about computers and technology more fun. Students can ask it questions and see how it answers, which might
encourage them to explore technology further.
DeepSeek-RI shows that innovation. (革新) requires creativity. It marks the rise of China’s technology on
the global stage. However, this progress also brings new challenges. The rapid development of such powerful
technology means the AI must keep getting better to stay competitive.
29.Many people think Deepseek is special because it is ________.

On the first day of grade 8, Mr Lemke greeted our energetic class as our English teacher. He spoke with
purpose and warmth, making it clear he’d run a tight ship. He announced we’d learn 400 lines of poetry that year.
By heart. The whole class whispered in astonishment (驚訝). And I wondered how I would ever memorize so
much poetry.
As weeks passed, Mr Lemke had us taste poems like delicious dishes. He invited us to follow their rhythm,
mood and meaning. “Poetry isn’t just words,” he said. “It’s music, strong feelings, and a window into another
spirit.” Then we read aloud, had discussions, and even acted some lines out. For each poem, we explored the poet’
s life and the moments that inspired (賦予靈感) their work. One rainy afternoon, Mr Lemke played soft classical
music while we read Wordsworth, encouraging us to “feel the rain in his words”.
One of the first poems we learned was “To Autumn” by John Keats, written in 1819. It praises the harvest
season and nature’s richness, while also suggesting at the coming of death and decay (衰敗). Keats advises us not
to worry about the future, “Where are the songs of Spring Ay, where are they Think not of them, thou hast thy
music too.”
Of course, complaints never stopped. Every week brought new poems: romantic poems, funny poems and
strange poems. I often shut myself away in my quiet bedroom, sometimes sitting by my desk and sometimes
walking around. And I went over a poem line by line until I could recite (背誦) it by heart.
試卷第 6 頁,共 13 頁
Somehow, I got through grade 8. And I entered high school. That fall, when I was walking on a path
covered with golden leaves, I found myself reciting those same lines of Keats.
It took me years to realize the gift Mr Lemke had given me through poetry. He believed poetry could make
me a better person and invited me to treasure it as part of myself. He taught me what learning “by heart” was all
about.
33.What does the underlined part “making it clear he’d run a tight ship” in Paragraph 1 mean
A.He planned to build a boat. B.He enjoyed sailing activities.
C.He would manage the class strictly. D.He would let students learn whatever they like.
34.What was the writer’s first reaction (反應) to memorizing poetry
A.He was excited about the challenge. B.He felt confident in her memory abilities.
C.He was unsure about the importance of poetry. D.He felt doubtful about finishing the task.
35.What method did Mr. Lemke use to improve students’ understanding of poetry
A.Focusing on their rhythm, mood and meaning. B.Breaking down the poems’ sentence structures.
C.Comparing poetry with other forms of literature D.Offering his personal understanding of each poem.
36.What is the best title for the passage
A.A Serious English Teacher B.Ways to memorize Poems
C.The Gift of Learning by Heart D.The Beauty of Autumn in Poetry

Electric vehicles (EVs) are changing the way we travel by offering a cleaner choice to traditional gasoline
cars. Unlike gasoline engines that burn fuel and release harmful gases, EVs use rechargeable batteries to power an
electric motor. This motor turns the wheels without producing harmful gases, making EVs much better for the
environment. Charging an EV is as simple as plugging it into a charging station or even a home outlet. Some
advanced models can even store energy back into the battery when slowing down, which improves efficiency.
One of the biggest advantages of EVs is their positive impact on air quality and climate change. Gasoline
cars release carbon dioxide and other pollutants, contributing to global warming. In contrast, EVs produce zero
emissions while driving. Countries like Norway are leading the way-over 80% of new cars sold there are electric,
and the government plans to ban gasoline car sales by 2025. This change has already helped reduce Norway’s
carbon footprint significantly.
However, challenges remain. Many areas still lack enough charging stations, making long-distance travel
試卷第 7 頁,共 13 頁
difficult for EV owners. Additionally, producing EV batteries requires rare materials like lithium, and recycling
old batteries is technically panies and governments are working to solve these issues. For example,
Tesla is expanding its global charging network, and researchers are developing cheaper, eco-friendly battery
materials.
Looking ahead, the future of EVs is promising. Governments worldwide are encouraging their use through
tax cuts and subsidies. China, the largest EV market, aims to build 10 million charging stations by 2030.
Technological advancements are also making EVs more affordable and efficient. New batteries can now travel
over 300 miles on a single charge, easing concerns about range.
While difficulties exist, EVs represent a key step toward sustainable transportation. By adopting this
technology, we can reduce pollution and create a healthier planet for future generations. The road ahead may be
long, but with continued innovation and support, electric vehicles will play a key role in building a greener world.
37.What is the main advantage of electric vehicles compared to gasoline cars
A.Lower maintenance costs. B.Faster speed.
C.More attractive design. D.More environmentally friendly.
38.What can we infer from the fact that over 80% of new cars sold in Norway are electric
A.The government’s efforts in promoting EVs are effective.
B.Norway has no problem with air pollution
C.Norway people don’t like gasoline cars at all
D.Norway has the most advanced technology in making EVs
39.According to the third paragraph, which of the following is NOT a problem for electric vehicles
A.Lack of enough charging stations in many areas
B.The complex recycling process of old EV batteries.
C.The complete global charging network for EVs.
D.The need for rare materials like lithium in producing EV batteries.
40.What is the author’s attitude towards electric vehicles
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Negative. D.Indifferent.

For each poem, we explored the poet’

music while we read Wordsworth, encouraging us to “feel the rain in his words”.
Somehow, I got through grade 8. And I entered high school. That fall, when I was walking on a path
covered with golden leaves, I found myself reciting those same lines of Keats.

Many areas still lack enough charging stations, making long-distance travel
difficult for EV owners.
試卷第 12 頁,共 22 頁
Technological advancements are also making EVs more affordable and efficient. New batteries can now travel
over 300 miles on a single charge, easing concerns about range.
While difficulties exist, EVs represent a key step toward sustainable transportation. By adopting this
technology, we can reduce pollution and create a healthier planet for future generations. The road ahead may be
long, but with continued innovation and support, electric vehicles will play a key role in building a greener world.

Recently, the Chinese government introduced a national plan called “Weight Management Campaign”. It
aims to help people manage their weight and live healthier lives. 41
★Why is obesity (肥胖) a problem
42 It can also cause serious health problems. Studies show that by 2030, 70.5% of adults and 31.8%
of children could be overweight. If people do not act now, they may face serious health problems at a younger age.
★ 43
Doctors use Body Mass Index (BMI, 體重指數) to check if someone’s weight is healthy. It is a measure
that uses your height and weight to work out if you are fit. For Chinese teenagers, a BMI between 15 and 22 is
healthy. However, a BMI of 23 means overweight, and over 26 means obesity.
★What should we do to keep healthy
Keeping healthy habits is the most important thing. 44 It is wise to choose brown rice, fresh
vegetables and fruit, fish and chicken for meat most of the time. Second, exercise also plays an important role.
Experts suggest at least 150 minutes of moderate (中等的) exercise per week, like running, cycling, or swimming.
★How can society help
It is necessary to get social and medical support. Some schools hold sports meetings and set up more sports
clubs. 45 These programs give advice on food choice, exercise and weight loss.
Remember, small changes make a big difference. Let’s work together to build a healthier and happier China!
