When you go on a trip, who watches your pet In the past, most people would ask their friends to take care of their pets. But now, you can also find professionals who offer in-home pet-sitting services, known as “pet sitters”.
Cao Ting, 28, is a pet sitter from Chengdu who has been working as a pet sitter for three years. “I offer services like feeding, bathing, walking dogs, playing with the pets, and other tasks as requested by the owners,” said Cao. Every time Cao works for 40 minutes to an hour, he is paid 50 to 70 yuan.
While caring for pets, Cao realized how special each pet is. One dog’s sensitivity (敏感) to sound taught him the importance of communicating with the pets and deeply understanding their behaviors to keep safe, comfortable relationships with them.
But being a pet sitter isn’t always easy. In-home pet care includes pet sitters entering other people’s houses when they are away, which may raise concerns about property security (財產安全). “Before starting the pet-sitting, I will ask the owner to lock away their valuable things and even use cameras for security,” said Cao. Besides, pet sitters usually register on platforms with their personal information. So if there’s any problem, it can be solved directly. Cao keeps open communication with his customers to avoid getting into trouble.
The income of pet sitters is likely to change all the time, and most pet sitters take this work as a part-time job. However, Cao remains hopeful about the future pet-sitting market. “People are starting to care more about their pets’ health and happiness. There will be lots of new chances in the future,” said Cao.

Mona Island is an amazing place to take a vacation. Some of the animals living there can’t be found anywhere else in the world. There are fascinating beaches and caves (洞穴) to go to. The sea around the island has colorful fishes.
Mona Island is very small. The government of Puerto Rico (彼多黎各) takes care of the island and has made it a natural reserve. That means the animals and plants on the island are protected from being harmed by people. Mona Island is different from most places because people are not allowed to live there. Only a few park workers are able to stay.
