A hug is a form of human touch that happens when two or more people hold each other closely. People hug for many different reasons in their lives. For example, if a child is sad, a parent may hug him or her to give comfort. Grown-ups may hug to show each other love. Friends may hug to show friendship. Memhers of a team may hug after winning a game to show happiness and encourage other team members.
Hugs may seem unimportant, but hugging is a necessary human need. For example, hugging plays a crucial role in building human relationships, which not only makes the hugged person feel loved and important but also, in turn, develops a sense of trust, belonging and safety that encourages open communication and understanding with others.
Hugging also has many health advantages. Research has shown that hugs can lower the risk of getting a cold as well as lower worry levels. Giving and receiving hugs can also make people feel in a good mood.
Finally, hugging can even save lives. In recent years, doctors have found that it is best when a baby is held soon after being born. It keeps the baby warm and helps keep his heart rate stable.
Besides, these babies feel safer and seem to be happier. Sometimes, a hug from a mother can save the life of her newly-born baby who is dying.
Knowing the importance of a hug, one man started the Free Hugs Campaign in 2001. It was an act of kindness to show that everyone is an important person. Giving hugs to unknown people who wanted or needed a tug became popular in society. Now, the month of July is known as International Free Hugs Month. It is a time when people all over the world, regardless of (KE) age, gender or nationality, come together to spread love and warmth through hugs.
Someone once said, “We need four hugs a day for living on. We need eight hugs a day for holding on. We need twelve hugs a day for growing up.” There may not be many people who give out 12 a day. But for all its advantages, maybe it is something we should all do more often.

One day, my Chinese coworker told me, “You’re on fire.” Seeing my puzzled face, she added, “You have inner heat—shang huo.”. 41 A friend missed a party because of it. A student skipped class for the same reason. Even at dinner, we couldn’t order spicy food because someone had “shang huo.”
Curious, I asked a friend. She explained that shang huo happens when the body has too much yang, creating an imbalance with yin. 42 Yin and yang are two opposite energies that work together to keep us healthy. When yang grows too strong, signs of inner heat appear.
43 Shang huo often starts by eating too much salty, sweet, spicy food. Sweets, alcohol, and cold foods can make it worse. According to a doctor in Beijing, avoiding hot and spicy foods is key to preventing shang huo.
Shang huo can cause many signs in the body. You can see problems like red skin, nosebleeds, and mouth pain. You may also feel tired, not want to eat food, have a sore throat, or feel sad and weak. 44
To get better, you need to cool down the heat—jiang huo. People should not wear too many clothes and should eat foods that can make the body cooler. Although cold foods might help for a short time, they can make things worse later. 45 The best way to cool the body is by sweating properly and drinking plenty of water.
A.There are some ways to cool down the body safely.
B.After this, I started noticing “shang huo” everywhere.
C.Food plays a big part in causing shang huo.

“You pretty, he ugly. You swan (天鵝), he frog (青蛙)!” Foreign people just love this funny English sentence going around the Chinese Internet.
It all started when a foreign girl named Kris posted a sad photo online. It seemed that her boyfriend made her cry. Some nice Chinese people tried to cheer her up. They asked her to find someone better. Some made funny Chinglish to make her feel happy, such as “You swan, he frog”. This became a hit with foreigners. Many found it cool. They shared it a lot online and made funny pictures with it.
“I need Chinese net users in my life who call the people that have hurt me frogs.” said a foreign Internet user, showing her love for the expression. Some of them wanted to know why Chinese people use “swan” and “frog” to describe this couple. After looking into it, they learned that it came from the famous old Chinese story of the beautiful swan and the ugly frog, and got interested in the Chinese stories behind Chinglish.
In the past, people often corrected those who spoke Chinglish because it was full of grammar mistakes. However, with globalization (全球化), people from different countries can now share their ideas more often. Different styles of speaking English are becoming common and even accepted. English with local touches can also be popular. For example, the well-known “add oil” has now appeared in the Oxford dictionary and people use it widely. The phrase shows Chinese culture.

“The videos make me want to learn 54 (much) about important ancient people and their stories than ever before.” said Liu Changyi, 15, from Xiamen.
55 the new trend (趨勢) isn’t for everyone. The way these ancient people speak, in high tones (音調) and always asking questions, annoys some people. “They’re too pushy (有壓迫感的), which is different from how they 56 (real) were,” said 14-year-old Wang Shuotong from Jiangsu. Xia Boen, 14, from Hubei, felt the same. But he was 57 (surprise) to find that he remembered almost everything they said about their 58 (experience) and achievements, thanks to the speaking style in the videos.
These videos use 59 more modern way to let ancient people “speak for themselves”. However, “we should deal 60 these videos carefully and make sure they are not sharing fake (假的) information,” noted Nanfang Daily.

When winter comes, Siberian cranes migrate from northeast Siberia in Russia to Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province, China. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season. However, climate change has endangered the birds’ habitats.
“In some years, the Poyang Lake experiences floods, while in others, it experiences droughts. Both of these lead to the problem that there isn’t enough food in the cranes’ habitat,” Qian Fawen, a researcher from the National Bird Banding Center of China, said to China Daily.
To help deal with the problem, the local government has built 70 hectares of lotus roots in Nanchang to provide food during the winter for the cranes. The birds population has risen from about 3, 000 to more than 5, 000 over the past 20 years, according to Qian.
Over the years, China has worked hard to protect migratory birds. Recently, 1,140 places in the country have been taken as important breeding grounds, wintering grounds and migratory stops, with most of them located in wetlands. They play a key role in cleaning water, preventing floods, and helping with biodiversity.
To protect China’s wetlands, the Wetlands Protection law was introduced on June 1, 2022. It stops building work on important national and stops activities, including giving out wastewater. Thanks to these efforts, China has reported more bird wintering in nation’s wetlands. For example, last December, Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve recorded more than 2,900 tundra swans up from some1,000 seen during the winter of 2021.
