Della participated in the Russian reality TV show Incredible People, impressing judges in Moscow with her remarkable language skills. Besides her native Russian, Della speaks English, German, Spanish, French, Chinese and Arabic. That includes the six official United Nations languages with the addition of German. Instead of just having some simple small talks, Della is actually able to communicate in these languages. During the show she managed to answer questions based on the school curriculum in all these languages. Della’s mother started teaching her daughter English at the age of two, but as soon as she noticed that Della was interested in it, she began to let her daughter be tutored by native speakers of other languages. Language specialists were just as impressed as Della’s global audience. One language expert said such cases were rare but had happened in the past. He believed that Della would not lose her knowledge but warned at some point it could become frozen if she did not continue to use and practice it.

Losing my job, I am depressed nowadays. My son has lost his admission to a good school. We have moved from a big house to a smaller one to reduce our living expenses. My wife has a lot of extra stress. On top of that, her father died a week ago, which has added fuel to the fire, putting our family in a worse situation. And now I have had an accident, too!
In these conditions, I have two mental choices: either to feel depressed and keep thinking about my problems, losing my peace of mind and affecting my family life; or replace my negative (消極的) thoughts with super mental powers that depend on self-confidence, positivity, and keep applying for new jobs with a positive attitude.
I choose the second option because I believe that the pain I am experiencing today will strengthen my character. My strengths will then improve my confidence and make me a successful man one day. I understand that time does not stop and does not remain the same. I understand that good and bad days are part of the package called life. While good times make me happy, bad times strengthen the ‘inner’ me. I believe in the quote which says that God takes men into deep waters not to drown them, but to clean them. I also believe in the four spiritual powers; one of which says that whatever is happening is the best thing that could have happened.
After two months, I got a job which is very exciting, full of professional exposure and offers a nice salary. Time has healed my wife’s mental stress due to the death of her father, although such a loss is irreplaceable. My son and daughter have got admission to a good school.

Spanish scientist Pilar Bosch has found a way to use bacteria (細(xì)菌) to repair 18th-century paintings. Bosch, a microbiologist, tells Reuters she got the idea for the method while considering possibilities for a paper toward her doctoral degree. During this process, she discovered someone else’s paper that suggested bacteria can be used to restore (修復(fù)) artworks.
At around the same time, Bosch learned that her mother was struggling to find a good method for repairing 18th-century paintings in the church. Bosch said her mother, Pilar Roig, noted how difficult the restoration process was. One reason was the glue (膠水) used to attach paintings to walls in the 1960s. It was nearly impossible to remove the glue completely. “My mother had a very difficult problem to solve and I found a paper about bacteria used to clean frescoes (壁畫) in Italy,” Bosch said.
Bosch added she decided to write her doctoral paper on the same subject. That was more than ten years ago. Today, she gets to work with her mother on the church paintings’ restoration. They are using the bacteria method to remove glue from artworks. The money of the $4.46 million project is given by local organizations. The process involves feeding small amounts of the glue — made from animal collagen (膠原) — to the bacteria. After a time, the bacteria begin to naturally produce enzymes (酶) to break down the glue. The mother-daughter team then mixes the bacteria with a natural algae-based substance, called a gel (凝膠), and places it onto the paintings. After about three hours, the gel mixture is removed, leaving the paintings glue-free.
Bosch’s mother, now 75, noted that in the past, restorers of artworks had to use traditional cleaning methods that took hours and damaged the paintings. Bosch has also used her bacteria method process in other restoration projects in Italy and Spain.

A. A paper she had read. B. The inspiration from her mother.
C. Her desire to help her mother. D. Her role as a microbiologist.
29. What challenge did Bosch’s mother face in restoring the paintings in the church
A. No financial support. B. Removal of the glue on paintings.
C. The lack of traditional cleaning methods. D. Damage to the paintings caused by the weather.
30. What does Paragraph 3 focus on
A. The mother-daughter team’s contribution to the church restoration.
B. The materials used for cleaning the paintings.
C The money used for the paintings’ restoration work.
D. The working mechanism of the bacteria-based restoration method.
31. How does Bosch’s mother feel about restoring artworks with bacteria
A. It is fairly convenient. B. It is environmental-friendly.
C. It is efficient and time-saving. D. It is worthy of wide promotion.

Sit far enough away from the screen. ____36____. To make sure your computer is positioned right, try the high-five test: if you can properly high-five your computer screen with a full arm extension, the distance is just right.
____37____. If you’re using any books or papers while working, you can tire your eyes when you don’t position them properly. If they’re too low, your eyes will have to refocus every time you glance at them, leading to eye tiredness. Reference materials should be located above the keyboard and below the computer’s monitor.

Adjust your screen brightness. Your screen should be adjusted depending on your environment. ____39____. If the room is not bright, lower the settings.
Take regular breaks. It is recommended that for every two hours of looking at the computer screen, you should take a 15-minute break. ____40____. This is good advice to protect not only your eyes, but your health in general.

It falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, usually in June. On this day, people make and eat zongzi, rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. Dragon boat races are also held in many places, attracting lots of spectators. These traditions remember Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet who lived in ancient China. “What a wonderful day of school!” I said to myself with joy. Holding on to the straps (背帶) of my school bag I skipped out of the school gate with a wide smile. It was one of the best days of my life! I had scored an unbelievable 100 for my Mathematics test! Muttering to myself, I wondered about the rewards and compliments (贊揚(yáng)). I would receive from my mother when I told the news to her. Just then, I remembered the bookstore near my house. Didn’t my mother give me some money for lunch I could use it to buy my favourite books! I thought about the books I would have and walked towards the store with a spring in my step.
On the way to the store, dark clouds began to gather in the sky and loom over the neighbourhood, swallowing up the sun. As I heard the thunder, my brows furrowed. I gazed at the dark sky, awaiting the arrival of the rainfall. Instinctively, I opened my umbrella to shield myself from the raindrops. After struggling to keep my umbrella from being blown away by the wind, I carried on with my journey to the book store. I picked up my pace, eager to get to there before the rain became any heavier.
Just then, I spotted an elderly lady. She had wrinkles on her forehead and her stick-thin arms were filled with countless bags of her groceries. To my shock, she did not have an umbrella! The heavy raindrops beat on her as she slowly made her way home.
“Oh no! What if she catches a cold However, the bookstore will close soon. Should I help her ” I thought.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
At that moment, I knew I had to make the right choice. Without hesitation, I dashed towards her and offered her my umbrella. “Grandma, let me share this umbrella with you,” I said. The lady gave me a weak smile of gratitude. I then sheltered her with the umbrella and helped her to carry some of her grocery bags. As we walked on, I asked the lady where she lived. “I live over there,” she replied, her wrinkly hands pointing in the direction we were heading to. While walking with the lady, I constantly thought of whether the game store had already closed. I wondered if helping the lady was really a good choice.
Paragraph 2:
Finally, we arrived at the lady’s house. The lady gave me a weak grin before thanking me repeatedly. “Thank you, thank you. If it weren’t for you, I would have been left helpless!” she exclaimed, shaking my hands over and over again. At that moment, I felt a surge of happiness and my heart soared with pride and joy. It finally dawned on me that helping others and being thoughtful was much more important than video games. It was a memory to treasure and remember for the rest of my life.2024-2025學(xué)年第二學(xué)期蚌埠市A層高中第六次聯(lián)考

After a decade of living in the Scottish Highlands, native Bulgarian Kapka Kassabova returned to her roots in southwestern Bulgaria’s remote Mesta valley, a rural region known for its wild crops and their vast medicinal properties.
24. What does the first paragraph suggest
A. The family used to have a small house.
B. The author is in a good situation.

B. The author has difficulty in the mental choices.
C. The author is under a lot of pressure of work.
D. The author’s house is on fire.
26. Why does the author choose to be positive about life’s challenges
A. He believes it will make him less stressed.
B. He thinks that will make him more powerful, confident and closer to success.
C. He wants to overcome all the challenges in his life.
D. He hopes to experience real life.
27. What happened to the author after two months
A. His son and daughter dropped out of school.
B. His wife recovered from her illness.
C. He got a lot of help from others.
D. He got a satisfactory job and everything got better.
