dog jumped at his sister. Bridger rushed to protect his sister with his body but the dog bit him fiercely. Fortunately,
a stranger, who was answering the phone nearby, found this accident and immediately drove away the dog. The
sister had just slight hurt on her arms and legs when she fell down. However, Bridger was badly hurt on his
cheeks, and he had to stay at the hospital for a few weeks. He later told his parents, “If anyone was going to suffer,
it had to be me.” Many of Bridger’s friends visited him in the hospital after hearing the news and praised him as the
bravest boy. And they volunteered to take care of him in turn.

故選 C。
Cesare was a strong student, but his regular classes weren’t teaching him how to
build a fusion reactor. To learn this, he spent countless hours doing research, looking up information on the Internet,
and watching videos. He would read, watch 10 or 15 videos, and then try to solve the problem. He also visited a
website where he got advice from scientists with more experience.(切薩雷是一名優秀的學生,但他的常規課程

Seven actors perform in a specially-built studio. They are surrounded by a

appear as a cloud of tiny fireflies(螢火蟲).(每次表演可由多達 2,000名觀眾參與,他們將受邀指導 Puck 穿

36.上文“Research shows that intermittent fasting is a way to manage your weight and prevent some forms of
disease.
37.上文“In previous time, it was easier to maintain a healthy weight. (在以前,保持健康的體重更容易。)”說明
過去,沒有電子設備人們很容易保持健康的體重。而后文“We stay awake for longer hours to catch our favorite
shows, play games and chat online.
38.上文“You can fast for a certain number of hours each day or eat just one meal a couple days a week. (你可以每
天禁食一定的時間,或者一周有幾天只吃一頓飯。)”說明間歇性禁食的益處,F項中“Doing so”與上文一致,
同時表明了禁食可以慢慢燃燒體脂,因此結合語境,F項“這樣做可以在不被注意的情況下一點一點地燃燒
身體脂肪”最恰當。故選 F。
39.下文“For instance, you may choose to try 16/8 mode: eating for eight hours and staying hungry for16 hours.
Another, known as the 5:2 approach, involves eating regularly five days a week.
40.下文“Talk to your doctor if you start experiencing unusual anxiety, headaches, or other symptoms after you start
intermittent fasting.
D項中的“before starting intermittent fasting”與下文“after you

The following 4 famous paintings — from Jan van Eyck’s portrait to Pablo Picasso’s
masterpiece — have stood the test of time.
The Arnolfini Portrait
The Arnolfini Portrait of Jan van Eyck, an oil painting on wood produced in 1434, in which
a man and a woman hold hands with a window behind him and a bed behind her, is undoubtedly
one of the masterpieces in the National Gallery, London. This painting is as visually interesting as
it is famed. It is also an informative document on fifteenth-century society, through van Eyck’s
heavy use of symbolism — while husbands went out to engage in business, wives concerned
themselves with domestic duties.
The Starry Night
Vincent Willem van Gogh painted The Starry Night, an oil on canvas (油畫布), a moderately
abstract landscape painting of an expressive night sky over a small hillside village, during his
12-month stay at the mental hospital near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France between 1889 and 1890.
When the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased the painting from a private collector
in 1941, it was not well known, but it has since become one of van Gogh’s most famous works.
The Harvesters
The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565.It
depicts the harvest time which most commonly emerged within the months of August and
September. Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp,
commissioned this painting. The painting has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
City since 1919.
Guernica
Guernica, a large black-and-white oil painting, was painted by the Cubist Spanish painter,

Pablo Picasso in 1937.The title “Guernica” refers to the city that was bombed by Nazi planes
during the Spanish Civil War. The painting depicts the horrors of war and as a result, has come to
be an anti-war symbol and a reminder of the tragedies of war. Today, the painting is housed at the
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.
21.Which of the following paintings was produced earliest
A.Guernica. B.The Harvesters. C.The Starry Night. D.The Amolfini Portrait.

A.It was painted on wood in oils.
B.It described the painter’s life in hospital.
C.It wasn’t widely recognized before 1941.
D.It was given away to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City by a collector.
23.Who created the painting describing the harvest seasons
A.Pieter Bruegel the Elder. B.Vincent van Gogh. C.Jan van Eyck. D.Pablo Picasso.

Decades ago, my friend Caetlin received a special assignment from the poet Robert L. Hass,
who instructed each student to memorize three poems of their choosing from The Norton Anthology
of American Literature—not for any urgent exam reason, he claimed, but instead to prepare them
for their unavoidable future occasions when you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all
you have.
If the task was as a strange one, it’s because the act of memorizing a poem feels curiously
old-fashioned in an era when few of us encounter poetry at all. When I was in graduate school,
working toward a degree in English literature, I mostly limited myself to essays. It was only in my
40s that I began to change my ways. It happened in a flight to Seattle. For hours, I read nothing else
but a poem. Sometimes I spoke its lines aloud, my voice masked by the airplane’s thrum.
Sometimes I went through the whole poem at once, and sometimes I repeated a single stanza (詩節)
over and over, and by the time my plane landed on the West Coast, I had the whole thing, all 40
lines of it, in my head. Because the process is as simple as it is very boring, memorizing a great
poem always begins as a crime. The boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has. But as
you run your hands through the rock, the lines at last come together again, and the scattered text
transforms back into a treasure.
In other words, poetry survives continuously by becoming a part of those who read it. It can
do so only because it is so specific, so entirely different from us, that taking it in expands our own

sense of what we are.
Some of the poems I’ve memorized are already fading, and that’s fine. I know that if I spend
a little time with them, they’ll sing in me again. Others keep beating in me like a new pulse. I won’t
promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will make you more in touch
with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might yet become.
24.Why did Robert L. Hass advise students to read poems
A.To become literature professors. B.To prepare for the coming exams.
C.To compose more original poems. D.To relieve their future loneliness.
25.Why does the author say that memorizing a poem begins as a crime
A.It’s out of date to recite poems. B.Repetition wastes a lot of time.
C.Repetition ruins the poem’s beauty. D.It’s a shame to read poems on plane.
26.How does understanding poetry influence us
A.By broadening self-understanding. B.By refreshing our good memories.
C.By helping us survive the hard life. D.By reminding us to forget the past.
27.What is the author’s attitude towards memorizing poetry in the last paragraph
A.Doubtful. B.Reserved. C.Appreciative. D.Critical.

We may think we’re a culture that gets rid of our worn technology at the first sight of
something shiny and new, but a new study shows that we keep using our old devices well after they
go out of style. That’s bad news for the environment — and our wallets — as these obsolete
devices consume much more energy than the newer ones that do the same things.
To figure out how much power these devices are using, Callie Babbitt and her colleagues at
the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York tracked the environmental costs for each
product throughout its life — from when its minerals are mined to when we stop using the device.
This method provided a readout for how home energy use has evolved since the early 1990s.
Devices were grouped by generation. Desktop computers, basic mobile phones, and box set TVs
defined 1992. Digital cameras arrived on the scene in 1997. And MP3 players, smart phones, and
LCD TVs entered homes in 2002, before tablets and e-readers showed up in 2007. As we
accumulated more devices, however, we didn’t throw out our old ones. “The living-room television
is replaced and gets planted in the kids’ room, and suddenly one day, you have a TV in every room
of the house,” said one researcher. The average number of electronic devices rose from four per
household in 1992to 13 in 2007. We’re not just keeping these old devices — we continue to use

them. According to the analysis of Babbitt’s team, old desktop monitors and box TVs with cathode
ray tubes are the worst devices with their energy consumption and contribution to greenhouse gas
emissions more than doubling during the 1992 to 2007 window.
So what’s the solution The team’s data only went up to 2007, but the researchers also
explored what would happen if consumers replaced old products with new electronics that serve
more than one function, such as a tablet for word processing and TV viewing. They found that
more on-demand entertainment viewing on tablets instead of TVs and desktop computers could cut
energy consumption by 44%.
28.What does the underlined word “obsolete” mean in the first paragraph
A.Outdated. B.Eco-friendly. C.Moderate. D.Sensitive.
29.Why did Babbitt’s team conduct the research
A.To reduce the cost of minerals.
B.To test the life cycle of a product.
C.To update consumers on new technology.
D.To find out electricity consumption of the devices.
30.Which of the following uses the least energy
A.The box-set TV. B.The tablet. C.The LCD TV. D.The desktop computer.
31.What does the text suggest people do about old electronic devices
A.Stop using them. B.Take them apart. C.Upgrade them. D.Recycle them.

Great white sharks have been described as the most violent creature ever since the release of
“Jaws” in 1975. But what if instead of one shark appearing, two were working together
Scientists say research off Mexico’s Guadalupe Island in the Pacific Ocean shows great white
sharks are sociable and will sometimes work together to increase their chances of catching prey(獵
物).
Guadalupe Island is home to a small group of scientists and a popular tourist destination for
spotting great white sharks because of a large quantity of seals. What makes this location unique is
the waters off the island are very clear.
A team of scientists from Florida International University created a “super social tag” tracking
device to put on the great white sharks. With a video camera and sensors(傳感器) detecting a
shark’s depth and direction, the device also has receivers to detect when other sharks are near them.
The team then put the devices on three male and three female white sharks over a four-year period.

{#{QQABaYQ0wgKYkAZACB4qEQUaCkmQkIMQLcoGARCQKAQCAINIBIA=}#}
The data showed sharks preferred to be in groups of the same sex(性別), but their ways of
hunting were unique. One shark had the tag on for only 30 hours, but it associated with 12 other
sharks. Another that had the tag on for five days was only with two other sharks. “Most
associations were short, but there were sharks where we found considerably longer associations.”
Yannis Papastamatiou, lead author of the study, said. “Seventy minutes is a long time to be
swimming around with another white shark.”
Papastamatiou said there is no clear answer to why white sharks are being social, but it’s
probably because if one shark is successful in finding large prey, another will want to know how to
have the same success. The sample size is small, but Papastamatiou said the findings give scientists
a window into the relationship between sharks. He hopes to develop tracking systems that can be
used for weeks, possibly years, to see the development of relationships between sharks.
32.What does the author want to tell us in the first 2 paragraphs
A.The social nature of sharks. B.The purpose of the research.
C.The content of Jaws. D.The violence of sharks.
33.What’s the purpose of using the “super social tag”
A.To increase the chance of hunting. B.To promote associations among sharks.
C.To keep track of the sharks’ activities. D.To study the relationships between sharks and seals.
34.What can we learn about sharks in paragraph 5
A.They are of the same sex. B.They have different hunting habits.
C.They have more frequent communications. D.Their associations last 70 minutes at least.
35.How does Papaslamatiou feel about his future study
A.Uncertain. B.Doubtful. C.Promising. D.Overconfident.

School success means different things to different people. No matter what success means to
you, strong study skills, confidence and goals are key components. 36 . Therefore, why
not try the following tips to achieve it
Organize yourself
When a student lacks organization, he struggles to complete schoolwork on time, or find time
to study. 37 . When you sit down to study, you need to organize your time well by
allowing enough time for each task. You also need an organized backpack that allows you to
transport materials to and from classes.

Spending time with friends, working a part-time job and pursuing other interests has a place.
However, you also need to leave time to achieve academic goals, or else your studies will be
affected negatively. For example, working too many hours at a job reduces study and sleep time,
possibly meaning missed school and difficulty concentrating due to being tired.
Look for support
Whether or not you struggle in school, a support network helps you succeed. So communicate
with your teacher outside of class time to ask for help when you struggle. 39 . If your
friends think school is a waste of time, you may be influenced to think so.
Go beyond the classroom
Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom doors. 40 . When a topic in the classroom
interests you, you should do a little research on your own. For example, set up your own
experiment based on something you learned in science class.
A.Balance activities and your studies
B.It isn’t limited to the information on the next exam
C.Never miss school
D.Surround yourself with classmates who also want to succeed in school
E.For students who struggle in school, additional support is necessary for success
F.You need an organized study place at home for completing homework and studying
G.School success opens up doors for future achievements for students at all grade levels

Melissa was a single parent of three small children, working at a low-paid job. Money was
always tight and she had to work hard to make ends meet. But they still felt blessed with a roof
over their heads, food on the plate, clothes on their backs, and even if not a lot, always enough. Not
knowing they were poor, the kids just thought their mother was strict in money management.

Melissa was really glad about that.
Christmas was just around the corner. Although there wasn't budget for a lot of gifts, Melissa
planned to please the kids with a family party. She prepared weeks ahead of time, asking one by
one what the kids wanted for Christmas. Fortunately, Melissa managed to spare $ 80 dollars for the
whole family to enjoy the fun of Christmas shopping.
The big day arrived. Mellissa drove the kids to a nearby Walmart and gave each kid a
twenty-dollar bill. “Now, my children,” she announced, “you have two hours to pick a gift in the
supermarket. Then we will meet back at the gate.” Excited, the children scattered (四散) and
rushed into the supermarket.
Melissa smiled. She looked at her own note and put it back into her pocket. Well, the
children's shining faces were the most precious Christmas gift for her, weren't they Sitting in the
car, she waiting patiently, imagining what gifts the kids would choose. She couldn't wait to share
their joy.
Two hours later, the kids came back one by one. Tom and Tick rushed to their mother, eyes
twinkling with excitement. They showed their gifts to Melissa and jumped with joy. The third child,
Ginger, was obviously left behind, who dragged her feet to the car. To everyone's surprise, Ginger
was empty-handed. Melissa said nothing, asked the kids to get into the car and headed home:

Driving home, everyone was talking about their gifts in high spirits except the youngest daughter, Ginger. Feeling puzzled, Melissa asked what she had bought for Christmas. “Nothing.” Ginger whispered, lowering her head. Other kids stopped talking and turned to Ginger. “Are you kidding Did you lose your money ” They stared at the little girl, their faces lighting up with surprise. Ginger shook her head and said that she gave the bill to a man who was begging outside the supermarket. The man in rags was standing in cold weather. There was no doubt that he was homeless and had a hard time.
“We have so much, but the homeless man doesn't have anything,” Ginger explained. “I am willing to share my happiness with him. I hope he can buy warm clothes or treat himself to a good dinner.” She added, with eyes shining with excitement. Hearing her daughters' words, Melissa felt a sense of pride swept through her. “What you did is right, Ginger. You are such a kind child that we are proud of you,” she said. Arriving home, they had a small party and the other kids offered to share their gifts with Ginger. It was the special experience that made the kids realize sharing is important.

Once there was a pianist in a bar. People came just to hear him play. But one night, a lady was tired of listening to the piano and asked him to sing a song. So he did. He had never sung in public before. Now he was singing for the very first time! Nobody had expected he could sing so beautifully! All the people present had a good time and the pianist was also very happy because he found that he could sing well.
He may have lived the rest of his life as a no-name pianist in a no-name bar. Now he found, by accident, his ability to sing, so he went on working hard on singing. Later, the pianist became one of the best-known singers in the US. His name was Nat King Cole. You, too, have skills and abilities that you haven’t found. You may not feel that your talent is great, but it may be better than you think. With hard work, most skills can be improved. Besides, you may have no success at all if you do nothing about your talent.
【答案】21.D 22.C 23.A
根據The Arnolfini Portrait中“The Arnolfini Portrait of Jan van Eyck, an oil painting on wood produced in 1434(1434年制作的木面油畫《阿爾諾芬尼夫婦像》)”;The Starry Night中“during his 12-month stay at the mental hospital near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France between 1889 and 1890(1889年至1890年,文森特·威廉·梵高在法國普羅旺斯圣-雷姆米附近的精神病院住了12個月,期間創作了一幅油畫《星月夜》)”;The Harvesters中“The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565.( 《收割者》是彼得·勃魯蓋爾創作于1565年的木本油畫。)”和Guernica中“Guernica, a large black-and-white oil painting, was painted by the Cubist Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso in 1937.( 《格爾尼卡》是一幅大型黑白油畫,由西班牙立體派畫家巴勃羅·畢加索于1937年創作。)”
根據The Starry Night中“When the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased the painting from a private collector in 1941, it was not well known, but it has since become one of van Gogh’s most famous works.( 1941年,紐約現代藝術博物館(Museum of Modern Art)從一位私人收藏家手中買下這幅畫時,它并不為人所知,但它后來成為梵高最著名的作品之一。)”
根據The Harvesters中“The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It depicts the harvest time which most commonly emerged within the months of August and September.( 《收割者》是彼得·勃魯蓋爾創作于1565年的木本油畫。它描繪了收獲季節,通常出現在8月和9月。)”可知,是彼得 勃魯蓋爾(Pieter Bruegel the Elder)創作了這幅描繪豐收季節的畫。故選A項。

根據文章第一段中“not for any urgent exam reason, he claimed, but instead to prepare them for their unavoidable future occasions when you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have(他聲稱,這不是因為任何緊急的考試原因,而是為了讓他們為將來不可避免的孤獨時刻做好準備,屆時詩歌將成為你唯一擁有的東西)。”
根據文章第二段中“Because the process is as simple as it is very boring, memorizing a great poem always begins as a crime. The boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has(因為這個過程既簡單又無聊,背誦一首偉大的詩總是開始得像是一種罪過。重復的無聊減少了它所具有的巨大魅力)。”可知,作者認為背誦詩歌的過程中,重復的無聊會破壞詩歌的魅力,因此開始背誦詩歌時就像是一種罪過。故選C。
26.推理判斷題。根據文章第三段中“In other words, poetry survives continuously by becoming a part of those who read it. It can do so only because it is so specific, so entirely different from us, that taking it in expands our own sense of what we are(換句話說,詩歌通過成為讀者的一部分而不斷存在。它之所以能做到這一點,是因為它是如此的具體,與我們如此的不同,以至于接受它擴展了我們對自己是什么的感覺)。”可知,理解詩歌可以擴展我們對自我的認識,影響我們對自我的理解。A選項“By broadening self-understanding.(通過拓寬自我理解)”符合題意。故選A。
根據文章最后一段中“I won’t promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will make you more in touch with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might yet become(我不會向你保證背誦詩歌會讓你的生活變得更好,但它會讓你變得更多:更多地接觸語言,接觸其他思想,也許還有你可能成為的樣子)。”

根據劃線詞上文“We may think we’re a culture that gets rid of our worn technology at the first sight of something shiny and new, but a new study shows that we keep using our old devices well after they go out of style. That’s bad news for the environment — and our wallets (我們可能會認為,在我們的文化中,一看到閃亮的新東西,我們就會扔掉舊的技術,但一項新的研究表明,即使舊設備過時了,我們也會繼續使用它們。這對環境和我們的錢包來說是個壞消息)”可推測下文意思是因為這些過時的設備比做同樣事情的新設備消耗更多的能源。所以obsolete意為“過時的”,和Outdated同義,故選A。
29.細節理解題。根據第二段“To figure out how much power these devices are using, Callie Babbitt and her colleagues at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York tracked the environmental costs for each product throughout its life (為了弄清楚這些設備的耗電量,紐約羅切斯特理工學院的Callie Babbitt和她的同事們追蹤了每個產品在其整個生命周期中的環境成本)”可知,Babbitt 團隊進行研究是為了弄清楚這些設備使用多少電量,也就是找出設備的電力消耗情況,故選D。
根據最后一段“They found that more on-demand entertainment viewing on tablets instead of TVs and desktop computers could cut energy consumption by 44%. (他們發現,在平板電腦上觀看更多的點播娛樂節目,而不是電視和臺式電腦,可以減少44%的能源消耗。)”可知,用平板電腦觀看娛樂節目比電視和臺式電腦能削減 44% 的能源消耗,由此可知平板電腦使用的能源最少,故選B。
31.推理判斷題。根據最后一段“So what’s the solution The team’s data only went up to 2007, but the researchers also explored what would happen if consumers replaced old products with new electronics that serve more than one function, such as a tablet for word processing and TV viewing. They found that more on-demand entertainment viewing on tablets instead of TVs and desktop computers could cut energy consumption by 44%.

根據第四自然段“With a video camera and sensors(傳感器) detecting a shark’s depth and direction, the device also has receivers to detect when other sharks are near them.(通過攝像機和傳感器檢測鯊魚的深度和方向,該設備還具有接收器,可以檢測其他鯊魚何時靠近它們。)”
根據第五自然段“One shark had the tag on for only 30 hours, but it associated with 12 other sharks. Another that had the tag on for five days was only with two other sharks. “Most associations were short, but there were sharks where we found considerably longer associations.” (一條鯊魚帶著追蹤器30個小時,但它與其他12條鯊魚有聯系。另一條戴著追蹤器五天的鯊魚只和另外兩條鯊魚在一起。該研究的主要作者亞尼斯·帕帕斯塔馬蒂歐說:“大多數聯系都很短,但我們發現鯊魚的聯系要長得多。”)”可知,鯊魚之間的交流更加頻繁。故選C。
35.推理判斷題。根據最后一段“but Papastamatiou said the findings give scientists a window into the relationship between sharks. He hopes to develop tracking systems that can be used for weeks, possibly years, to see the development of relationships between sharks.(但帕帕斯塔馬蒂歐說,這些發現為科學家們了解鯊魚之間的關系提供了一扇窗戶。他希望開發出可以使用數周甚至數年的追蹤系統,以觀察鯊魚之間關系的發展。)”可知,Papastamatiou認為他將來的研究是有希望的、有前途的。故選C。

38.根據本段中“Spending time with friends, working a part-time job and pursuing other interests has a place.” 以及“However, you also need to leave time to achieve academic goals, or else your studies will be affected negatively.” 可知,A項“Balance activities and your studies” 平衡課外活動和學習。
39.根據后句“If your friends think school is a waste of time, you may be influenced to think so.” 可知D項“Surround yourself with classmates who also want to succeed in school”與也想在學校取得成功的同學們在一起。與后句中“If your friends think school is a waste of time,”如果你的朋友覺得學校學習是浪費時間。
40.根據前句“Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom doors.” 以及后句中“When a topic in the classroom interests you, you should do a little research on your own.” 可知,B項“It isn’t limited to the information on the next exam”不僅局限于下一次考試方面的信息。

逗號后面的部分 “shows the world the remarkable achievements of Chinese AI technology and boosts the confidence of the Chinese scientific community” 是對前面整個句子的補充說明,屬于非限制性定語從句。 故填which。
故填the。
