Vanessa and Niki had just begun a friendship. Niki was new to the school, and Vanessa had thought she was a snob (勢利的人). But then, Niki left her notebook on the playground by accident, and Vanessa picked it up and returned it to her. Then the two girls started to talk, and they got to know each other. One day, Niki explained herself, “I don’t really know anyone here except you, and I’m kind of shy. I know everybody thinks I’m a snob, but I’m not. I just don’t know what to say to people.”
Vanessa had an idea for helping Niki. “If my other friends get to know you,” she told Niki, “they’ll like you, too. So why don’t you sit with my friends and me at lunch tomorrow Then everybody will see what you’re like.” Niki was very uncertain, but she was tired of everyone thinking she was a snob. So she agreed to have lunch with Vanessa and her friends.

①Imagine (想象) you are in a field at night, and suddenly, you see lots of little lights around you. You have just found a group of fireflies (螢火蟲), and their twinkling (閃爍的) lights are like a secret language. This nighttime light show, especially in the forest, has interested people for a long time. Let’s explore (探索) the secret of fireflies.
②Do you know how fireflies make their tails shine The special power of fireflies to make light is called bioluminescence (生物發(fā)光), a special ability to create their own light through a chemical reaction (化學(xué)反應(yīng)). It happens when two chemicals in their bodies join together and produce light.
③However, why do fireflies need to produce light in the dark Now, imagine you are a firefly looking for someone special in the dark. How would you find Mr. or Ms. Right Fireflies use their lights to send “hello” messages to each other. Each kind of firefly has its own special way to shine. They use their lights as an invitation to get to know each other better so that they can have baby fireflies.
④But fireflies do not just use their lights for conversations. They also use them to stay safe. Imagine you are an adult firefly in the dark, and a big spider is trying to catch you. What do you do You turn on your light to make a sign that tells the spider “I taste disgusting. You won’t like me. So don’t eat me.”
⑤Besides, some scientists say fireflies may also use their lights to hunt. Imagine you’re a hungry firefly waiting in the dark. You flash lights to trick other insects into coming closer. When the curious prey (獵物) gets near—suddenly! —You catch a quick snack. It’s like using a glowing “free food” sign to attract dinner!
⑥This story of fireflies tells us how amazing and wonderful the natural world is. Exploring the world of fireflies helps us see how important it is to take care of nature and all its amazing organisms (生物), no matter how small they are.

①The world is full of screens. They are on TVs, computers and smartphones. Screens are at school, at home, and just about everywhere in between. The time people spend every day looking at screens is known as “screen time.” Most families have rules about how much time children can spend with screens. Why do they have rules Are there good reasons to limit screen time
②In many ways, screens are helpful for communication and connecting with other people. Social media (媒體) and video calls allow people to keep in touch with each other. ______ By sharing and reviewing videos, photos, games or music, people can meet others who have similar interests.
③However, some adults are worried that young people spend too much time on screens and not enough time meeting people in real life. As a result, they may not properly understand feelings or develop strong relationships (關(guān)系).
④Many kinds of screen time may be good for students. Students may use screen time to develop their skills in creating music or videos. They may even learn skills such as coding (編程) computer programs. When students use their screen time to do research online, they may meet people who are different from them or ideas they have never thought about before.
⑤However, some researchers think that screens change how the brain processes information. Some have connected screen time to lower test scores or less attention time.
⑥In the future, scientists will continue studying the influences of screen time. Parents will likely continue to make rules limiting screen time. Plenty of good things can come from all this screen time, but it’s a good idea for people to pay attention to how much time in a day they spend looking at a screen. They should know how screen time influences their health, relationships, and learning.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is an index (指數(shù)) that shows if a person has a healthy body weight. For healthy adults in China, a usual BMI is between 18.5 and 23.9. A BMI between 24 and 27.9 is thought to be overweight. A BMI of 28 or even higher is thought to be obese (肥胖的). Being overweight or even obese can easily lead to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart trouble and other serious illnesses. According to the National Health Commission (NHC), by 2030, Chinese adults will face a serious problem—about 70.5% of them in China could be overweight and 31.8% of children could face the same problem.
Now, the government of China is working on the problem. This program focuses (專注) on advising people to eat well, take exercise, and keep a healthy weight.
We can also take Shanghai as an example. The city plans to develop a “Weight Management Health Guide” for its 25 million residents (居民). A team of experts (專家) in health, food, and sports will work together to finish the guide. It will offer advice not only about diet management and exercise plans, but also about good sleeping habits and medical help. Moreover, AI technology will be used to complete this task.
Health experts suggest (建議) eating a mix of healthy foods, including rice, vegetables, meat and milk, and trying to achieve a balance (平衡) among them. Eating until 70% or 80% full is suggested for long-term weight control. To avoid putting on weight, it is also important to keep good sleeping habits because staying up late can lead to unhealthy eating habits and weight gain.

Besides, I wrote some interesting words from the book. It was a lot of fun. While doing this homework, I read the story again and had a better understanding of each character.
Through this homework I not only improved my English writing skills but also learned how to express my ideas creatively. It made me more interested in reading and sharing books with others. This kind of homework is really meaningful and enjoyable.

First of all, I searched for a lot of information about traditional Chinese festivals like the Spring Festival and Mid-autumn Festival on the Internet. Then, I chose some interesting pictures and wrote English introductions for them. After that, I used a video-making software to combine the pictures and the texts. Also, I added some soft and nice music. It was perfect. Watching the finished video, I felt proud of myself.
Through the homework, I not only improved my English skills, but also had a deeper understanding of our traditional culture. It made me realize the importance of spreading Chinese culture to the world in English.
