It has been featured in sci-fi films, short stories and novels.(它曾出現在科幻電影、短篇小說和小說中。)
The building itself exists beneath the ground, so you can't really see the actual library.(建筑本身就在地下,所以你不能真正看到真正的圖書館。)
24.C 25.D 26.A 27.B
MySpace even lists this information by birthplace and age. It’s like a free checklist for troublemakers and it endangers children,” Buchanan said.
28.C 29.B 30.A 31.D
Studies in animals and in laboratory dishes suggest that oxidative (氧化性的) stress contributes to diseases like cancer and heart disease.(在動物和實驗室培養皿中的研究表明,氧化應激會導致癌癥和心臟病等疾病)可知,氧化性壓力困難會導致心臟病和癌癥。
If you are taking vitamin supplements to reduce your risk of heart disease or cancer, a group of health experts want you to know that those vitamins may actually increase your risk of cancer.(如果你服用維生素補充劑以降低患心臟病或癌癥的風險,一組健康專家想讓你知道,這些維生素實際上可能會增加患癌癥的風險)可知,在某些方面,服用維生素是沒有用的,反而會帶來不好影響。
The Task Force recommendations of taking vitamins regularly apply to healthy adults aged 50 and older who don’t have “special nutritional needs”. The advice does not apply to children, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, people with chronic illnesses, or people who have to take supplements because they can’t get all their essential nutrients from their diet.
32.C 33.C 34.A 35.A
Whether jobs are transformed or lost completely to the advance of technology, the OECD says one question rises above all others: are we ready
New and skilled jobs also come with new and improved technology.
In some cases, that will mean workers losing their jobs completely-the OECD estimates 14 percent of jobs will be completely automated in the next two decades, while others, 32 percent of jobs, will be greatly different from what they look like now. 故選A。
The OECD Employment Outlook does not predict a jobless future. But it does foresee major challenges for the future of work, said the OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria, in a statement. 故選A。
36.B 37.D 38.E 39.F 40.C
第三句提到“…help you make friends…”
37.根據第二段第二句“…take up a lot of time.”有些愛好,如集郵和園藝都需要花費很長的時間,但“…can be done at your own pace and do not require any extended time.”
該段最后一句提到“…our local library or phone book should also have information…”
與F選項中first—hand knowledge相符。且F項中提到的interview意為“采訪、訪問”,與該段第一句中的“Talk with other people”意思相近,故選F。
40.文中第五段第二句提到“Challenge yourself to try a new activity you are interested in for a week or so.”

66.Boys and girls,
I’m greatly honoured to deliver the speech. As we all know, with the development of economy and society, the number of private cars is amazingly increasing. Cars and other vehicles let off carbon gases, and so do many other human activities, which causes global warming, disasters, and so on. It’s high time that we went green.
From my point of view, we should raise the public’s awareness of the significance of going green. And taking public transportation or riding bicycles instead of driving should be greatly encouraged. What’s more, it’s a good idea to classify our rubbish and recycle it in our daily life.
That’s all. Thank you.
67.I was beside myself with extreme anxieties, assuming the worst had happened. Suddenly, the phone rang, I rushed to the phone and picked the receiver up, it was my dad. From the other end of the phone came my father’s voice. He said breathlessly, “Son, I am so sorry about the football game, but …there was a terrible accident…on the freeway coming home, and I stopped to help the injured and ended up going to the hospital. I left my phone in the car, so I couldn’t call you until now.”
The heavy stone in my heart finally fell to the ground. I was so relieved to hear from my father. Having learnt that he was safe, I burst into tears. It was at that moment that I had a full understanding of the importance of a curfew. Since then, I have been insisting on checking in! For me, it’s about knowing that someone I love is safe. It is also one more proof of my father’s loving me as much as he does.

Text 10
I was born in Tasmania. It was named after its discoverer A. J. Tasman. Tasmania is an island off the south coast of Australia. It's the smallest state of Australia, about the size of the Republic of Ireland. And the Weather there is much like the north coast of Spain neither very cold nor very hot.
It used to be a prison for the British Empire. It was a prison because it's an island. The sea of Tasmania is full of sharks. Anyone who tried to escape got eaten by sharks. So there was no escape. But things have improved since the eighteenth century and Tasmania is famous for better reasons. Really, it's a beautiful place with a
wonderful natural environment. So tourism is a major industry, with farming and also food production following closely behind.
The scenery is very beautiful. And it's got rare animals and unique plants. There are only half a million people, so it's a large island with a small population. There are long beaches, mostly empty, no people at all. You can have a whole beach to yourself. On the west coast it's very mountainous. About a third of the state is National Park and complete wilderness. In many places it's possible to walk for maybe ten days without seeing a road or another human being.2024-2025學年度第二學期期中考試

If you are taking vitamin supplements to reduce your risk of heart disease or cancer, a group of health experts want you to know that those vitamins may actually increase your risk of cancer.
The US Preventive Services Task Force came to this conclusion after reviewing dozens of studies.
Nearly half of adults in the US take at least one vi amin or mineral supplement on a regular basis. These pills are advertised as a way to promote general health. In some - cases, manufacturers promote them as cancer fighters and heart protectors.
Studies in animals and in laboratory dishes suggest that oxidative (氧化性的) stress contributes to diseases like cancer and heart disease. If so, there is a reason to believe that antioxidants — including beta-carotene, vitamins A, C, and E — could be useful as preventive medicines.
But when the Task Force examined the medical evidence on vitamins, it found “inadequate ( 不 充 分 的 ) evidence” to support the claims that vitamin and mineral supplements benefit healthy adults..
“Cardiovascular(心血管的) disease and cancer have a significant health impact in America, and we all want to find ways to prevent these diseases,” Dr. Virginia Moyer, who heads the Task Force, said in a statement. But so far, she added, the medical evidence does not show that taking vitamins is helpful in this regard.
However, the Task Force did find “adequate evidence” that people with a raised risk for lung cancer actually increase their risk further by taking beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A.
The Task Force recommendations of taking vitamins regularly apply to healthy adults aged 50 and older who don't have “special、nutritional needs”. The advice does not apply to children, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, people with chronic illnesses, or people who have to take supplements because they can't get all their essential nutrients from their diet.

D. Vitamins must be useful to prevent cancer and heart disease.
30. Who can take vitamins regularly according to the advice of the Task Force
A. A 60-year-old healthy worker.
B. A 15-year-old boy with short-sightedness.
C. A34-year-old pregnant lady.
D. A40-year-old man who never eats vegetables or fruits.

Within many workers' lifetimes, jobs will be completely changed by automation(自動化). A recent employment report from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD), a union consisting of 36 countries across the world, said that within the next two decades half of all jobs will be greatly transformed by technology.

Automation may even create jobs in the short term, say some analysts. The problem is ensuring that current workers are equipped to transition into those jobs now and in the future.
To ensure that workers replaced by robots and other technology can get into a new career, the OECD says that a strong adult training program is necessary. That may involve not only training older workers but also removing the financial burdens of their efforts through subsidies(補貼).
Even with a rapidly changing economy and the development of technology, all we need is a plan., " With the right policies, we can manage these challenges. We face significant transformation, but we have the opportunity and the determination to use this moment and build a future of work that benefits everyone, " said Gurria.

My father and I disagreed about my curfew(晚間在家的時間). He would say I had to be in by 9:30 on weekdays, and 11:00 on weekends, and there was no exception. One day, I took courage to first show my opinion on my curfew. I told him it made me feel like a junior high school kid. He explained that though a curfew might sound like a restriction(限制), it was really about people looking out for one another..
The very next-Friday after that exchange, my dad and I had tickets to see our own town's professional football game. On that day he was driving his car to a nearby city to meet some major clients(客戶) and told me that his getting home and our leaving for the game would be tight.
To make sure we could move off the moment he came back, I got everything prepared. When half an hour had passed from the time when he said he would be home, I understood that he was a little late. But then, nearly a whole hour passed. I was getting upset. We were going to miss the kick-off(開始) ! And why hadn't he phoned me and let me know he was going to be really late As I anxiously stepped the floor, another half hour passed. That was when I got really angry. How inconsiderate(考慮不周的) my father was! We were going to miss the whole game! However, when another half an hour passed, my anger turned to fear. What if something terrible had happened to my dad, like he had a sudden heart attack or was caught in an accident, or something else I began to get really worried, feeling like sitting on pins and needles. I had already called his cell phone about ten times, but there was no answer.
