A.A host. B.A professor. C.A news reporter.

B.To show the popularity of the high-five hand gesture.

20.What is an original meaning of the handshake gesture
A.Gratitude. B.Love. C.Respect.
【答案】18.B
19.A
20.C
M: Good afternoon, everyone. Earlier on in today's lecture, I mentioned the importance of hand gestures and said that I'd touch on the history of the gestures. I'd like to focus on two in particular: the high five and the handshake.
The high-five hand gesture is generally used as a celebration. Many see its origins in baseball. Two US teams lay claim to inventing the high five: the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977 and the Louisville Cardinals in 1978. It's quite likely that it was neither, and the gesture might have a much earlier origin. It's very similar to a 1920s Jazz Age gesture known as the "low five" or "giving skin".
The other gesture I'm going to mention today is the handshake. It dates back as far as ancient Greece. Its original meaning is to convey trust, respect and equality. In the 17th-century European marriage paintings, we find many examples of handshakes between husband and wife. Now, of course, the handshake serves many purposes: meeting, greeting, expressing gratitude or completing an agreement. Besides, it's also used to offer congratulations, which serves the same purpose as the high five.
Good afternoon, everyone. Earlier on in today's lecture, I mentioned the importance of hand gestures and said that I'd touch on the history of the gestures."
Many see its origins in baseball. Two US teams lay claim to inventing the high five:"許多人認為它起源于棒球運動——兩支美國球隊都宣稱發明了擊掌。 It's quite likely that it was neither, and the gesture might have a much earlier origin." 故選A。
The other gesture I'm going to mention today is the handshake. Its original meaning is to convey trust, respect and equality."

(2025高一下·浙江期中)At 12, my father decided to take me a trip to France. I had never been out of the country before, so I was very excited. My aunt, my father and I went around with my father showing us all the unbelievable attractions in Paris. None of us spoke much French but we loved the city.
We had taken the subway all over the city and were congratulating ourselves on our understanding of what is honestly a good subway design that is pretty easy to follow. We decided to visit Versailles by train. We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English.
We reached the end of the line and felt frightened when everyone finally left the train. An old man and his grandchild noticed us and came up to help. He spoke no English, so in broken French we tried to explain. When he finally understood, this great man settled his grandson and showed us to the correct train and then got on it with us.
Later we knew the truth that there was a train transfer(換乘)and he didn't want us to miss it. This kind man rode a train an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. He refused to let us pay for his ticket. He did it all with a gentle smile and shook our hands gently at the stop. Then with his quiet way, he got on the train to return the way he had come.
What impressed me most was the man and his kindness during the amazing trip. Some Americans think the French are rude for some reason, but I always try to make them change their minds with this story.

We chatted happily along the way until my father realized we were far into the French countryside and no one around spoke English.(我們決定乘火車去參觀凡爾賽宮。 We reached the end of the line and felt frightened when everyone finally left the train.(我們到達了線路的終點站,當最后所有人都下了火車時,我們感到很害怕。)" 故選A。
An old man and his grandchild noticed us and came up to help. He spoke no English, so in broken French we tried to explain. When he finally understood, this great man settled his grandson and showed us to the correct train and then got on it with us.(一位老人和他的孫子注意到了我們,便走上前來幫忙。 Later we knew the truth that there was a train transfer(換乘)and he didn't want us to miss it. This kind man rode a train an hour and a half out of his way to make sure that three Americans got where they wanted to be. He refused to let us pay for his ticket.(后來我們才知道,原來要換乘火車,他是不想讓我們錯過換乘。
What impressed me most was the man and his kindness during the amazing trip. Some Americans think the French are rude for some reason, but I always try to make them change their minds with this story.(在這次奇妙的旅行中,給我留下最深刻印象的是那位老人以及他的善良。
(2025高一下·浙江期中)Can a robot help speed up Christmas deliveries The city of Helsinki is finding out. A trial in Finland's capital is using a delivery robot in two neighborhoods to see if this new, self-driving and pollution-free method could help with the holiday stress.
The HeRo robot that is being tested, is a project of Forum Virium, an innovative Finnish company. The trial will be running through the end of December 2023. The goal is to show how packages can be quickly delivered to people's homes with great accuracy even during the holiday season.
HeRo is not just a delivery robot, it's electric and operates without any dangerous emissions, plus it is self-navigating (導航) and talks. The delivery robot was made by the French robotics firm TwinswHeel and uses an interface created by the Finnish company LMAD. (2025高一下·浙江期中)Sleep, considered a luxury by many, is essential for a person's health. Researchers have found that lack of sleep and tiredness increase a person's risk of developing severe medical conditions, such as obesity (being very overweight), high blood sugar levels, and heart disease. Now, a new study has found that getting enough sleep is also the key to improving academic performance.
Jeffrey Gross, the university science professor who led the research, was not trying to find the relationship between sleep and grades when he handed out smart watches to the 100 students in his chemistry class. Instead, the professor hoped the devices, which track a person's physical activity, would show a connection between exercise and academic achievement.
While Gross's data showed no relationship between these two factors, the study found something surprising. As the researchers were analyzing their data, they noticed that there was a straight-line relationship between the average amount of sleep a student got and their results in the course's 11 quizzes, three midterm tests, and the final exam.
Even more interesting, it was not enough for students to just head to bed early the night before a test. Instead, it's the sleep you get during the days when learning is happening that matters most.
The time students went to bed each night was similarly important. Those who went to bed in early hours of the morning performed poorly, even if the total sleep time was the same as a higher-performing student. "When you go to bed matters," Gross says, "If you go to bed at 10, or 12, or l at night, and sleep for seven hours, your performance is the same. But if you go to bed after 2, your performance starts to go down even if you get the same seven hours. So, quantity isn't everything."
Perhaps the most interesting was the huge impact that small differences in sleep patterns had on the students' grades. The overall course grades for students averaging six and a half hours of sleep each night were 25% lower than students who averaged just one hour more sleep. Similarly, students who varied their bedtime by even one hour each night had grades that dropped 45% below those with more regular bedtimes.
32.What have researchers found about lack of sleep
A.It can help people lose weight.
B.It can make people more likely to get sick.
C.It can reduce people's risk of heart disease.
D.It can improve people's academic performance.
33.What was Professor Jeffrey Gross's original intention
A.To study the relationship between sleep and grades.
B.To investigate the impact of sleep on students' health.
C.To prove that smart watches can track physical activity.
D.To find out the connection between exercise and academic achievement.
34.According to the text, which of the following is correct
A.The more sleep students get, the better their grades.
B.It's the sleep you get during the daytime that matters most.
C.Differences in sleep patterns have great impact on students' grades.
D.Students who go to bed after 2 am can perform well by sleeping longer.
35.What is the main idea of the text
A.The importance of exercise for students.
B.The relationship between sleep and health.
C.The impact of sleep on academic performance.
D.The benefits of using smart watches in class.
【答案】32.B
33.D

Researchers have found that lack of sleep and tiredness increase a person's risk of developing severe medical conditions, such as obesity (being very overweight), high blood sugar levels, and heart disease.(研究人員發現,睡眠不足和疲勞會增加一個人患上嚴重疾病的風險,比如肥胖(體重嚴重超標)、高血糖水平以及心臟病。
Jeffrey Gross, the university science professor who led the research, was not trying to find the relationship between sleep and grades when he handed out smart watches to the 100 students in his chemistry class. Instead, the professor hoped the devices, which track a person's physical activity, would show a connection between exercise and academic achievement.(Jeffrey Gross是領導這項研究的大學理科教授,當他把智能手表分發給自己化學課上的100名學生時,他并不是試圖去探究睡眠與成績之間的關系。
Perhaps the most interesting was the huge impact that small differences in sleep patterns had on the students' grades. The overall course grades for students averaging six and a half hours of sleep each night were 25% lower than students who averaged just one hour more sleep. Similarly, students who varied their bedtime by even one hour each night had grades that dropped 45% below those with more regular bedtimes.(或許最有趣的是睡眠模式上的微小差異對學生成績產生的巨大影響。
Now, a new study has found that getting enough sleep is also the key to improving academic performance.(現在,一項新的研究發現,充足的睡眠也是提高學習成績的關鍵)"文章開篇指出睡眠對健康的重要性,接著講述Jeffrey Gross教授原本想探究運動和學業成績的關系,卻意外發現了睡眠與學業成績之間的聯系,包括平均睡眠時間、睡覺時間點以及睡眠模式的差異等對學生成績都有影響。
(2025高一下·浙江期中)Apps and Your PrivacyIn today's digital age, protecting your privacy while using apps is important. All apps collect data as you use them. Here are some good tips to keep your personal information safe. 36.
For starters, download apps only from the App Store, not from random websites. 37.
Before you accept an app's terms and conditions, look at what information it's planning to collect and think twice if it's asking for too many permissions. For example, why would a gaming app need access to text messages You may think it's inconvenient, but it's worth it.
Also, most apps don't need to know your location, but for those that do, you can choose to enable location services only when using the particular app, another smart privacy safeguard.
 38. Don't use your main e-mail address or social media account. This way, if there is a security breach (缺口), your exposure is contained to things connected to that address.
And, of course, use a secure password. This means a long one (at least ten characters) with a mixture of letters, numbers, and special characters—and a unique password for each app. According to security experts, a good trick is to create a memorable "passphrase" by creating a series of random (任意的) words, and then replace numbers or special characters for some of the letters 39. Go ahead and write them down—just store it in a secure location (not your wallet or phone case!).
Finally, remember that privacy is an ongoing concern. Regularly review the apps you have installed and the permissions you've granted them. Stay informed about the latest privacy threats and solutions. 40. By taking these simple steps, you can enjoy the benefits of apps while protecting your personal data.
A. It's better to be safe than sorry.
B. How will you ever remember them all
C. Why is it so important to protect our privacy
D. Moreover, create strong, unique passwords for each app.
E. Because it can prevent bad software from infecting your device.
F. Following these four steps will help ensure you're not oversharing.
G. Sign up an e-mail address just for things like app permissions and e-mail newsletters.

A.To show the importance of learning a foreign language.

The four-wheeled vehicle can carry up to 300 kilograms and can travel up to 20 kilometers on just one charge of its lithium(鋰)battery pack. HeRo uses a combination of GPS and onboard sensors(傳感器)to run through the city's streets.
HeRo can carry several orders at once. Each order is in a separate locker and customers can open their lockers electronically. In just one hour, the robot delivers packages from a few shops to people in the Ruoholahti and North J tk saari areas. No other delivery service is as fast or as clean.
This isn't HeRo's first appearance on Helsinki streets. From May to August 2023, there was a first phase trial. It carried packages from Würth Center (a place that gives tools and supplies for industry) to nearby workplaces. These trials are part of the international URBANE project. The project wants to find new, green ways to make logistics better for both companies and people. Soon, there will be new trials in cities in Spain and Greece. Using self-driving robots for zero-emission delivery is an idea that should be used all over the world.
28.What is the purpose of the trial in Helsinki
A.To see if robots can replace human delivery workers.
B.To find out if robots can speed up Christmas deliveries.

D.The benefits of using smart watches in class.

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did. So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply: "Because I love your stories. If you're willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this."
Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try. I chose Paul Revere's horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18,1775, to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse's mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny, and unlikely to be anyone else's choice. What did the horse think, as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere's horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half-dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them. When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, "Great. Now, write it again." I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn't win, I wouldn't care.

At 12, my father decided to take me a trip to France. I had never been out of the country before, so I was very excited.(在我12歲的時候,父親決定帶我去法國旅行。
We decided to visit Versailles by train.

The delivery robot was made by the French robotics firm TwinswHeel and uses an interface created by the Finnish company LMAD. The four-wheeled vehicle can carry up to 300 kilograms and can travel up to 20kilometers on just one charge of its lithium(鋰)battery pack. HeRo uses a combination of GPS and onboard sensors (傳感器) to run through the city's streets.( HeRo不僅僅是一款配送機器人,它使用電力驅動,運行過程中不產生任何有害排放物,此外,它還具備自主導航功能并且能夠與人交流。 D"It can travel unlimited distances on one charge.(它一次充電可以行駛無限的距離)"與原文表述不符。故選D。
Using self-driving robots for zero-emission delivery is an idea that should be used all over the world.(這并非HeRo首次出現在赫爾辛基的街頭。 故選A。
