Zheng Qinwen, 21, won China’s first Olympic gold in the tennis singles at the Paris Olympics on Aug. 3.
“Nothing can describe my feeling right now. It’s unreal. I’ve always been hoping to get a medal for China. Finally, I made it.” Zheng said after her win.
From 2020 to 2024, Zheng’s world ranking (排名) jumped from over 600 to No 7. Years of competition taught her to play with patience and control her energy in matches. Her effort has won her the title “Queen Wen” among fans.
“I love my fans for giving me this title, honestly, because it fits my character well. You need to show yourself as queen of the court, because you need this energy, this power to show that you are the best.” Zheng told China Daily.
Playing for China at the Olympics gave Zheng power. She made her way to success after surviving tiring matches that went on for three hours.

With coffee beans in short supply worldwide and Chinese consumers expanding their coffee habit, Yunnan province beans have increasingly appeared in major coffee chains in China.
Yunnan, the largest coffee planting area in China, is blessed with high altitudes and suitable climate for planting high-quality coffee beans. The province is the source of more than 99% of domestically (國內地) produced coffee.
Last year, Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producing country, experienced extreme weather, including drought and frost, which caused a decrease in output of nearly 20%. The epidemic (疫情) is another reason for the price increase. The COVID-19 pandemic has hampered the timely transportation of coffee beans to overseas markets.
With coffee from international markets in short supply, Yunnan has drawn attention of coffee chains in China.
Ye Peng, a coffee farmer in Pu’er, Yunnan, for more than a decade, said she has seen the prices of orders double from last year. With advanced planting technologies and higher quality local coffee beans, her company ships its product to famous coffee chains such as Starbucks and Manner Coffee.
Baoshan Chunzheng Coffee Company is a major coffee provider in Yunnan. It provides coffee beans to Yum China, which operates fast food chains KFC and Pizza Hut (必勝客) in the country.

According to Dr. John Swaddle, a professor at the Institute for Integrative Conservation at William & Mary, hundreds of millions of birds die every year from window collisions(碰撞).
However, if you put decals(貼花紙) or colorful stickers outside of your windows, the birds are more likely to see the barrier and therefore avoid it. Remember: never inside your window; always outside of your window.
“Double-glazed(雙層的) windows reflect a lot of light, especially when you view them from a slight angle, as a flying bird would do,” Swaddle told Salon. He is the corresponding author of a recent study which tries to figure out how this basic reality of physics impacts on a bird’s experience as it flies near a standard window. For their experiment, researchers had birds perform repeated and controlled flight trials near windows with film(薄膜) products, BirdShades film and Haverkamp film, respectively.
“In our collision avoidance trials, BirdShades increased window avoidance by 47% and the Haverkamp increased avoidance by 39%. But neither product was effective when the films were applied to the internal surface of windows,” the authors concluded.
When breaking down the problem of avoiding window collisions from a bird’s point of view, Swaddle explained, “The light and reflected imagery from the external surface of the glass is sufficient to obscure a film or decal that is stuck to the inner surface from being seen clearly.”
If you want to protect birds from easily avoidable deaths without buying window film products, there are other solutions. Swaddle recommended “pleasing fritted glass that could be used in new construction and which is also bird-friendly”. Besides, he notes that screens can be helpful as well, not only by limiting reflectiveness but by providing birds with a cushion if they make impact. It is also possible to use everyday household objects to signal to birds that there are barriers — netting, bits of string, colorful stickers, and paint. These can all be used to this effect.

Tips for Floodwater Safety
Floodwater can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes (蚊子) which carry diseases. 16 You should avoid floodwater whenever possible. Here are practical safety tips：
Avoid flooded areas.
Do not drive, walk or swim through floodwaters. 17 It can be difficult to judge the depth of the water, and unknown dangers may be hidden by it.

Taking a dual approach to cleaning up after a flood is crucial. Cleaners remove dirt and grime, and disinfectants stop the growth of bacteria carried in floodwater. 18 If you are cleaning areas that have mold growing, it’s also recommended to wear a N95 mask.
Make sure the food you eat are clean.
Don’t eat food that may have come into contact with floodwater. Even if the food is packaged, it could have been exposed to bacteria from the floodwater.

Polluted water can contain bacteria and cause serious infections. Follow water safety advisories to boil water before drinking or use bottled water. If needed, bring water to a rolling boil for one full minute to kill water borne bacteria.
Never expose an open wound to floodwater.
