You’re lying on the sofa and feeling bored. Then you start watching short videos(短視頻)on your phone. The first one is about a dog. It is not interesting, so you move on to another. You keep switching(切換)videos and hope to find something more interesting. But it doesn’t make you feel less bored. In fact, switching from one video to another will add a feeling of boredom and make you feel even worse.
Scientists did a study with over 600 people. In the study, people watched short videos in two different ways. In the first way, they could switch videos if they didn’t like the one playing. However, in the second way, they had to finish watching one video before moving to the next. The results were surprising. When people could switch videos freely, they actually felt more bored. But when they couldn’t switch and had to fully focus(關(guān)注)on one video, they enjoyed it much more.
Sam Green is one of the experts(專家)in the study. He says switching videos very often can make the watching experience meaningless. That’s because people don’t have time to think and take in. “If people want a more delightful experience when watching, they must try to truly enjoy it and refuse video switching,” Sam says. “Just like paying for a great movie experience in a theater, we often enjoy the videos more when we watch them fully instead of switching from one video to another.”

A growing number of people are using ChatGPT, an AI program(人工智能程序), to make books. What do you think of it
Many young people think it has a bright future. Zhang Wei was once a salesman in Beijing, and he had no idea about being a writer. But after learning about the ChatGPT program, Zhang told his friend Li Xiang that he had a good chance. Then both of them tried to be writers together. “The idea of writing a book finally seemed possible,” said Zhang. There were over 200 e-books in Amazon’s Kindle store in February by ChatGPT. And the number is rising daily.
Although it is useful, a lot of people don’t like ChatGPT. They think it might hurt students’ writing and learning. They think students may write all of their homework and passages by using ChatGPT. Tang Ling has a 16-year-old daughter, Wang Siyue. She said, “It is too easy for her to get a passage with ChatGPT. She doesn’t need to think but gets a passage in a short time. She may not be able to write.” Tang said that ChatGPT was helpful but schools and teachers should make good rules about it.
People have different opinions about ChatGPT. However, there is one thing in common. All of us hope that students can write more good works with it.
( ) 9. Who was a salesman before
A. Li Xiang. B. Zhang Wei.
C. Tang Ling. D. Wang Siyue.
( ) 10. Why don’t some people like ChatGPT

B. Because it is bad for schools.

D. Because it makes too many rules.

A. Drawing a picture with ChatGPT.
B. Writing a book with ChatGPT.
C. Getting a passage with ChatGPT.

Imagine a picture like this: You wake up in the morning. A soft light turns on in your room. You go into the bathroom and the shower starts. The water is warm. After your shower, you go into the kitchen. Your favorite breakfast is already on the table. Welcome to your future house.
Our houses in the future will be “smart”. Machines at home will be able to talk with each other and with you. For example, your fridge will know what you have in it and tell you what dishes you can make with the food. When you need more food, your fridge will tell you to buy it. This will be possible because of tiny information-storing devices called RFID chips(芯片). They can store(儲存)the information about all the food in your fridge.
Our future houses will also be able to “think”. If you are tired of the colour of your walls, you won’t have to paint them again. The walls will be able to change the colours because of a special kind of technology—OLED. In fact, OLED walls will be screens. A computer will join the walls and the other things, and this computer will control your house. Your house will learn about your likes and dislikes. It will then use that information to start the environment(環(huán)境). It will also darken the windows at night and lighten them when it’s time to wake up. What do you think of our future houses
( ) 13. What does Paragraph 1 mainly talk about

Short video apps are not only popular in China, but also in other countries. People use them to do lots of things, such as having fun, recording lives, and even making money. But most of them just use these apps to spend their free time.
The most popular short video app in the country had almost 400 million users by January. People of almost all ages like this app. People in their 50s like dance videos. Those born in the 1980s are more interested in watching beautiful scenery(風(fēng)景). However, teenagers may like videos about cute animals better.
Now, short videos start to mean something more. Some videos help us learn more about the world. Vloggers(視頻博主)use short videos to promote(推廣)Chinese culture. Teachers and other experts also use short videos to show difficult things in simple ways.
However, the popularity(流行)of short videos also has a bad effect on people’s life. Some people are addicted(成癮)to watching short videos. They spend a lot of time on short videos, and have less time to work or study.
In my opinion, short videos make people closer on the Internet but farther away from each other in real life. Sometimes, we should think more carefully about how much we really need to watch them.
