Chances are you will give me the name of Florence Nightingale, the wealthy woman who gave off her everything to serve the needy people of her time and become a nurse. She’s still pictured today as she was in the Crimean War (克里米亞戰爭) of 1853, carrying a lamp from sickbed to sickbed where she tended to the wounded, and that is how she earned herself the title of “The Lady With The Lamp”.Born on May 12th, 1820, she was a genius who spoke multiple languages and pioneered the concepts of statistical analysis that are still used today. Her parents were different, too. They were super-wealthy, and actually cared about the education of their two daughters. This came as a surprise because at that time, being born with two X chromosomes (染色體) was the high road to a life full of knitting and taking care of a household but her father was really dedicated to his two daughters. Education for women at that time was still at its earliest but Florence got the best education possible. On February 5, 1837, the teenage Florence declared that she had had a vision and God had commanded her to end suffering in this world and this is when she joined Nursing. Both of her parents disagreed with that, considering that at that time nursing was looked down upon. Florence over the next 12-13 years tried convincing her parents, but they didn’t give in.Aged 29, she even refused suitors (求婚者) to focus on her nursing career which at that time was non-existent. When Florence turned 30, her dad was completely worn out from resisting and then sent her to Germany for nursing training. In 1853 her dream was completely realized and she undertook a job in London at a hospital.24.Why was Nightingale called “The Lady With The Lamp” A.She was the greatest nurse in the world.B.She attended the Crimean War in 1853.C.She took a lamp to take better pictures.D.She tirelessly cared for the wounded carrying a lamp.25.What can be inferred about Nightingale’s father according to paragraph 2 A.He was strict with his two daughters.B.He believed women should stay at home.C.He placed a high value on education.D.He objected to his daughter’s becoming a nurse.26.How is the passage developed A.By making comparisons. B.By listing reasons.C.By following time order. D.By listing examples.27.Which of the following can best describe Nightingale A.Selfless and determined. B.Caring and mean.C.Serious and stubborn. D.Optimistic and knowledgeable.CClimate change is causing Europe to heat up more quickly than any other continent, and that heat is deadly, according to a new report by European climate officials. The whole planet is warming up because of heat-trapping pollution (吸熱污染) from oil, gas and coal. But Europe is getting warmer faster. Samantha Burgess is the deputy director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, which is the EU’s official weather and climate organization. She says Europe is warming about twice as fast as the global average. “Globally, we’re looking at about a 0.2 degrees Celsius change per decade, whereas Europe is, I think, about 0.4 degrees Celsius per decade.”Those tenths of a degree add up quickly. Europe is already more than 4 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than it was in the late 1800s. One reason Europe is heating up so quickly is that it’s very close to the Arctic, and the polar regions feel the effects of climate change more intensely. Another reason is that the ocean and atmospheric currents around Europe are warmer in general than those at similar latitudes (緯度) in other parts of the world. That’s why London’s winters are so much more temperate than Chicago’s, even though London is farther north. And it means that as the oceans and atmosphere heat up, Europe feels it in a big way.Last year was tied for the hottest year on record in Europe. A new report by the Copernicus Climate Change Service and the United Nations finds that the number of deaths from hot weather in Europe has grown by at least 30% in the last 20 years.Last summer was a prime (最典型的) example. During a heat wave in July, intense heat and humidity made it feel like it was 110 degrees Celsius or hotter in nearly half of southern Europe. That’s the kind of heat that can kill people if they don’t have access to air conditioning. Preliminary estimates say tens of thousands of people likely died. European cities are scrambling to make sure residents have access to air conditioning and reliable electricity for that air conditioning.28.Why does the author mention what Samantha Burgess said in Paragraph 2 A.To indicate that Europe used the most oil, gas and coal.B.To suggest that Europe had the most people killed by heat.C.To prove that Europe was getting warmer the fastest.D.To tell us that Europe is in the Arctic region.29.What caused London’s winter to be warmer than that of Chicago A.The difference of latitudes.B.The distance from the equator.C.The impact of heat-trapping pollution.D.The effect of ocean and atmospheric currents.30.What does the underlined word “scrambling” in the last paragraph mean A.Climbing hard to the top of a mountain.B.Writing words too casually to be readable.C.Competing with others in order to get something.D.Managing to do something in a hurry.31.Which column of a newspaper does this article belong to A.Environment. B.History. C.Source. D.Health..DFew insects strike greater fear into the hearts of fruit growers than rosy apple aphids. These tiny insects feed on the leaves of apple trees. Their saliva (唾液), meanwhile, contains a poison that causes the leaves to fold up and harden, providing an excellent place for them to shelter, including from farm chemicals. In the battle against these aphids, some suggest applying the services of tiny parasitoid wasps (寄生黃蜂) called Ephedrus cerasicola and Aphidius matricariae. Instead of killing and then eating their targets, these wasps eat and thus kill them — or rather, their larvae (幼蟲) do. Females put their eggs into rosy apple aphids, and the larvae that come out of them then go on to eat their hosts’ bodies before growing as adults.Using parasitoid wasps for pest control has a long history. Unfortunately attempts to use Ephedrus cerasicola and Aphidius matricariae to control rosy apple aphids have so far failed. And Louise Ferrais of the Catholic University of Louvain thinks he knows why. Previous efforts, he thinks have been so focused on the dietary requirements of the larvae that they have paid no attention to those of honey-loving adults. He suggests changing that by planting banks of flowers beside the trees. To test this idea, researchers ran an experiment on an apple farm. They divided it into six plots, each of 700 square meters. Three were planted with strips of a mixture of 30 wildflower species. The other three were left flowerless, as controls. Then, they attached a bottle containing about 1,250 wasp pupae, from which adult wasps developed, to each of nine trees per plot and repeated that between 10 and 20 days later to increase the population. Then they examined selected trees every 10 days for groupings of aphids. The presence of flowers, they found, was related to a diminution in the number of aphids in a plot by a third, compared with the controls. Though that is not as impressive as the 80-90% drop that would follow a chemical solution, it would be valuable to fruit growers who wish to keep the all-important “green” label while having at least some crops left to harvest.32.What may bother apple growers when dealing with rosy apple aphids A.They’re hard to remove. B.They reproduce frequently.C.They threaten farmers’ health. D.They’re easy to escape from enemies.33.How can the wasps kill rosy apple aphids A.They poison the aphids with their saliva.B.Their larvae eat the aphids from the inside.C.Their larvae keep the aphids from growing.D.They prevent female aphids from laying eggs.34.What is advised to improve wasps’ performance in aphid control A.Plant flowers to increase the larvae’s food sources.B.Meet both larvae’s and adults’ food preferences.C.Better the living environment of wasps.D.Introduce wasps of different varieties.35.What does the underlined word “diminution” probably mean in the last paragraph A.Rise. They ignore the small stuff.Bad days happen. 39 You accidentally fall over a banana skin...There are plenty of cases where anger, disappointment, and anxiety are totally reasonable reactions, but they don’t have to be your final reactions. People play different games in winter and summer. Games and sports often grow out of people's work and everyday activities. The Arabs use horses or camels in much of their everyday life. They use them in their sports too. Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football for example has spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or those with many rivers. Some sports or games go back to thousands of years, like running or jumping. Chinese boxing for example has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. Neither one is two hundred years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time. People from different countries may not be able to understand each other, but after a game, they often become good friends. Sports helped to train a person's character. One learns to fight hard but fight fair to win without pride and to lose with dignity.21.B 22.D 23.C【難度】0.85【導語】本文是應用文。 根據Hello Dolly介紹內容中的“Kids will be excited by the colourful sets and costumes, while older teens who may be Harry Potter fans will love seeing Dolores Umbridge, also known as Imelda Staunton, being very funny.(孩子們會為五彩繽紛的布景和服裝而興奮不已,而年齡較大的青少年可能是哈利波特的粉絲,他們會喜歡看到多洛雷斯·烏姆里奇,也被稱為伊梅爾達·斯湯頓,非常有趣)”可知,在《哈利·波特》電影中飾演Dolores Umbridge的演員Imelda Staunton將參演Hello Dolly。故選D項。23. 根據Hamilton介紹內容中的“This musical offers a mix of hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway and is perfect for kids who want to feel inspired.(這部音樂劇融合了嘻哈、爵士、R&B和百老匯,非常適合想要感受靈感的孩子們)”以及“Venue: Victoria Palace Theatre(地點:維多利亞宮劇院)”可知,Hamilton結合了不同類型的音樂元素,將在維多利亞宮劇院上演。 根據文章第一段“She’s still pictured today as she was in the Crimean War (克里米亞戰爭) of 1853, carrying a lamp from sickbed to sickbed where she tended to the wounded, and that is how she earned herself the title of “The Lady With The Lamp”.(時至今日,人們仍能看到她在1853年克里米亞戰爭中的照片,她拿著一盞燈從一張病床走到另一張病床,照顧傷員,這就是她為自己贏得“提燈女士”稱號的原因)”可知,南丁格爾被稱為“提燈女士”,是因為她在夜間提著燈不知疲倦地照顧傷者。故選D。25. 根據第二段“They were super-wealthy, and actually cared about the education of their two daughters(他們家境非常富裕,實際上非常重視兩個女兒的教育)”可知,南丁格爾的父親非常重視女兒的教育。故選C。26. 根據第一段“Chances are you will give me the name of Florence Nightingale, the wealthy woman who gave off her everything to serve the needy people of her time and become a nurse. She’s still pictured today as she was in the Crimean War (克里米亞戰爭) of 1853, carrying a lamp from sickbed to sickbed where she tended to the wounded, and that is how she earned herself the title of “The Lady With The Lamp”.(很有可能你會告訴我弗洛倫斯·南丁格爾的名字,一個富有的女人,她把自己的一切都奉獻給了那個時代需要幫助的人,并成為了一名護士。時至今日,人們仍能看到她在1853年克里米亞戰爭中的照片,她拿著一盞燈從一張病床走到另一張病床,照顧傷員,這就是她為自己贏得“提燈女士”稱號的原因)”和倒數第二段“Florence over the next 12-13 years tried convincing her parents, but they didn’t give in.(在接下來的12到13年里,弗洛倫斯試圖說服她的父母,但他們沒有屈服)”和最后一段“Aged 29, she even refused suitors (求婚者) to focus on her nursing career which at that time was non-existent.( 29歲時,她甚至拒絕了追求者專注于她當時并不存在的護理事業)”可知,南丁格爾是無私的并且決心堅定的。故選A。 根據文章第二段“But Europe is getting warmer faster. Samantha Burgess is the deputy director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, which is the EU’s official weather and climate organization. She says Europe is warming about twice as fast as the global average. “Globally, we’re looking at about a 0.2 degrees Celsius change per decade, whereas Europe is, I think, about 0.4 degrees Celsius per decade.”(但是歐洲的氣溫正在以更快的速度上升。Samantha Burgess是歐盟官方氣象和氣候機構——哥白尼氣候變化服務的副主管。她說,歐洲的變暖速度大約是全球平均水平的兩倍。“全球范圍內,我們看到每十年大約有0.2攝氏度的變化,而歐洲,我認為,每十年大約有0.4攝氏度的變化。”)”可推知作者提到Samantha Burgess的話是為了證明歐洲變暖速度最快。故選C。29.細節理解題。根據文章第三段“Another reason is that the ocean and atmospheric currents around Europe are warmer in general than those at similar latitudes (緯度) in other parts of the world. That’s why London’s winters are so much more temperate than Chicago’s, even though London is farther north.(另一個原因是,歐洲周圍的海洋和大氣環流總體上比世界上其他相同緯度地區的要溫暖。這就是為什么倫敦的冬天要比芝加哥溫和得多,即使倫敦的位置更靠北)可知,倫敦的冬天比芝加哥暖和是因為海洋和大氣流的影響。故選D。30.詞句猜測題。根據劃線詞上文“That’s the kind of heat that can kill people if they don’t have access to air conditioning. Preliminary estimates say tens of thousands of people likely died.(這種熱量如果沒有空調的話可能會致命。 A。32.A 33.B 34.B 35.D【難度】0.65【導語】這是一篇說明文。文章主要講述了利用寄生黃蜂和花卉控制玫瑰蘋果蚜蟲的有效性和生態優勢。32.細節理解題。根據第一段中“Their saliva (唾液), meanwhile, contains a poison that causes the leaves to fold up and harden, providing an excellent place for them to shelter, including from farm chemicals.(與此同時,它們的唾液中含有一種毒素,這種毒素會使葉子折疊變硬,為它們提供了一個絕佳的避難所,包括躲避農藥)”可知,玫瑰蘋果蚜蟲唾液中的毒素會使果樹葉子折疊變硬,為它們提供庇護,躲避農藥,所以在處理玫瑰色蘋果蚜蟲時困擾果農的是它們很難清除,故選A。33.細節理解題。根據第二段中“Females put their eggs into rosy apple aphids, and the larvae that come out of them then go on to eat their hosts’ bodies before growing as adults.(雌性將卵放入玫瑰色蘋果蚜蟲中,從它們身上出來的幼蟲在成長為成蟲之前會繼續吃掉宿主的身體)”可知,在玫瑰蘋果蚜蟲身體里面的黃蜂幼蟲從里面吃掉玫瑰蘋果蚜蟲,從而殺死它們,故選B。34.細節理解題。根據第三段中“Previous efforts, he thinks have been so focused on the dietary requirements of the larvae that they have paid no attention to those of honey-loving adults. He suggests changing that by planting banks of flowers beside the trees.(他認為,之前的努力過于關注幼蟲的飲食需求,而沒有注意到愛吃蜂蜜的成蟲的飲食需求。他建議通過在樹旁種植花叢來改變這種狀況)”可知,為了提高黃蜂在控制蚜蟲方面的表現,建議滿足幼蟲和成蟲的食物喜好,故選B。35.詞句猜測題。根據劃線詞下文“Though that is not as impressive as the 80-90% drop that would follow a chemical solution, it would be valuable to fruit growers who wish to keep the all-important ‘green’ label while having at least some crops left to harvest.(雖然這并不像化學溶液能減少80-90%那樣令人印象深刻,但對于那些希望保持最重要的‘綠色’標簽,同時至少還有一些作物可以收獲的水果種植者來說,這是有價值的)”可知,種植花叢的方法有價值,推知劃線詞所在句意為“花的存在與地塊中蚜蟲數量減少三分之一有關”,diminution意為“減少”,故選D。36.D 37.C 38.G 39.E 40.B【難度】0.65【分析】這是一篇說明文。文章給讀者介紹了可以讓生活變得更好的一些建議。36.D項So how do happy people get through a rough day (那么快樂的人是如何度過糟糕的一天的呢?)與下文These tips are small things that happy people do to make life just a little bit better(這些小建議就是快樂的人為了讓生活變好一點所做的一些小事)承接自然,選項提出問題,下文回答問題,且兩句中的happy people為原詞復現,故選D項。37.C項Mistakes are an inevitable part of life.(錯誤是生活中不可避免的部分)符合本段標題They turn mistakes into lessons.(他們把錯誤變成教訓)的話題,故選C項。38.G項Just staying away from the Internet allows you to live your life instead of watching other people live theirs.(遠離網絡能讓你過自己的生活,而不是看著別人過他們的生活)符合本段標題They go offline(他們不上網)的話題,故選G項。39.E項You spill coffee down your shirt before you are running out of the door.(出門前你把咖啡灑在裙子上)與下文You accidentally fall over a banana skin.(你意外踩到香蕉皮被滑倒)承接自然,兩句都講述了生活中不如意的事情,故選E項。40.根據Putting yourself out there can feel like a challenge, but once you take a risk, you will certainly be rewarded.(讓自己走出去可能會讓你覺得是挑戰,但是一旦冒險,你就肯定會得到回報)可知,本段主要講要勇于冒險,B項They take chances.(他們冒險)可以作為本段標題,故選B項。【點睛】完成七選五可以采用關鍵詞法,以本篇為例:第1小題選項中的happy people和下文These tips are small things that happy people do to make life just a little bit better中的happy people是原詞復現。第2小題選項中的Mistakes和標題They turn mistakes into lessons.中的mistakes是原詞復現。第3小題選項中的staying away from the Internet和標題They go offline.中的go offline是同義詞復現。完型41-55本文是一篇夾敘夾議文。本文主要講述的是作者小時候和母親一起去看望病人時,母親對作者說了一些話以及母親的這些話對作者的影響。B [根據下文中的“was always lying on the bed”可知,其中有一位女士患了嚴重的(serious) 病。]D [根據上文中的“My mom was a nurse and often took me along to visit the families she was caring for”可知,母親告訴作者他們需要去拜訪(visit) 那位女士。]A [根據上文中的“she was caring for”可知,母親作為一名護士照顧病人,故此處表示“去幫助(help with) 治療”。]C [上文說母親是一名護士,在和作者一起去看病人,所以此處表示作者原以為母親會到藥(drug) 店里。]D [根據下文中的“My mom headed to the make-up. . . nightdress”可知,作者他們去了一家超市(supermarket) 。]B [根據空前的“the most expensive bottle”和下文中的“dignity and beauty”可知,作者的母親購買了一瓶最昂貴的香水(perfume) 。]D [根據下文中的“she was still a lady”和“dignity and beauty”可知,母親也為她購買了一件漂亮的(beautiful) 睡衣。]C [根據上文中的“and was always lying on the bed”可知,此處為這位女士不能離開(leave) 她的床。]B [根據語境可知,雖然這位女士年紀大了,不能離開她的床,但她依然值得(擁有) (deserved) 尊嚴和美麗。]D [此處表示“當我們關心一個人的時候,我們會忽略(look past) 他的殘疾或疾病,并且我們會深入了解他的靈魂(soul) ”。]C [參見上題解析。]B [作者不久(soon) 意識到母親的最大長處就是照顧那些非常年幼的和非常年老的人。]C [根據上文中的“for the very young and the very old”和下文中的“need trustworthy care providers”可知,這些人都是一些不能照顧(look after) 自己的人。]B [根據下文中的“I work as a clinical psychologist”和“my practice filled with patients”可知,九年級的時候作者就知道自己會成為一名醫生(doctor) 。]A [作者對自己在工作中面對非常年幼的和非常年老的病人不會感到驚奇(surprised) 。]-65starting 2. where 3. antiques 4.away 5. averaging 6. a 7. seeing 8. amazed 9. confirmed 10.EventuallyDear Peter,I’m thrilled to hear about your trip to Putian! The class burst out laughing and then started clapping—For me! I felt my face burning, but then I noticed something surprising — the kids weren’t laughing at me. Jayce gave me an encouraging thumbs-up, and even Luka seemed impressed by my quick fix. Mrs. Williams’ eyes sparkled. “Michael, that was really an unexpected incident! You handled it in a very creative way,” she praised. Gathering courage, I said, jokingly, “Thanks, I guess now you all know what happens when you don’t hammer properly!” The class broke into laughter once more. “Actually, this proves why we need to use the right size nails,” I continued, pointing to the split wood. “And maybe I should have practiced hammering first.” The class chuckled again. After class, I decided to rebuild the birdhouse and present it again. I spent hours checking measurements, sanding wood edges, and practicing my hammering. A week later, I stood before the class with my new, stabler birdhouse. “Last time, I showed you what not to do,” I started, grinning. “Now, here’s the right way!” I demonstrated each step confidently, my hands steady and my voice clear. When I finished, the class erupted into enthusiastic applause. “Now that’s what I call learning from mistakes,” Mrs. Williams nodded approvingly and suggested I sign up for the district Science Fair. I beamed with pride. My “failure” became my greatest opportunity.【導語】本文以人物為線索展開,講述了作者在課堂上展示自己制作的鳥屋項目時遭遇意外失敗,但隨后以幽默和創意的方式化解尷尬,并最終通過改進和努力獲得成功的經歷。 詞匯激活行為類①注意到:notice/spot②處理:handle/ deal with③繼續:continue/go on情緒類①令人驚訝的:surprising/ astonishing②自信地:confidently/ with confidence【點睛】【高分句型1】I guess now you all know what happens when you don’t hammer properly!(運用了省略that的賓語從句、what引導的賓語從句和when引導的狀語從句)【高分句型2】When I finished, the class erupted into enthusiastic applause.(運用when引導的狀語從句)答案第1頁,共2頁 展開更多...... 收起↑ 資源預覽 縮略圖、資源來源于二一教育資源庫
