When we wake up feeling sleepy and with dark circles (黑眼圈) under eyes, many of us often think: “I’m going to bed earlier tomorrow!” But we may just break our promise in the end. This often happens because many of us like to play with the phone or computer so much that we forget about the time.
“This situation is called ‘bedtime procrastination (拖延癥)’, and it happens also because we can’t control our body clock”, said some doctors.
A group of health experts did a study about bedtime procrastination and they found many people had experienced it. 53 percent of the 2,400 people in the study said they didn’t sleep at the same time every day, staying up at least twice a week.
Many people stayed up not because they liked to do so, but because they couldn’t stop doing unnecessary things like watching videos on the phone or playing computer games.
“If people usually have difficulty in turning off their phones and making up their minds to go to bed, they always can’t sleep early,” an expert further said.
But some experts said not having enough self-control is not the only thing to make bedtime procrastination happen. Our body clock also plays an important role in our sleep.
To know the influence (影響) of the body clock on sleep, some experts studied the sleeping habits of 108 people. The experts found that those sleeping late will more possibly go to bed late than those getting up early every morning. And more surprisingly, many people with bedtime procrastination will go to bed late at the very beginning of the weekday, even though they have to get up early for work and school. Their special body clock plays a part in making them go to bed late.
People always think that bedtime procrastination isn’t a big problem, but as some experts said, “Our sleeping habits are really important for our health.”
