By the time most of the world discovered the kipunji monkey, it was already seriously endangered. These rare animals live in Tanzania and are not closely related to any other known monkeys. Thanks to smart protection efforts, their population is accumulating.
Kipunji monkeys live in groups and spend most of their time in trees. Local hunters knew about them, but researchers first identified the species in the early 2000s. A 2007 survey found 1,117 of the animals alive. Experts from organizations such as the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) stepped in to try to save the species.
One method of protecting kipunji monkeys was to reduce conflict between the monkeys and humans. Kipunji monkeys often come out of the forest to steal bananas and carrots from farms, leading farmers to set traps that can kill them. So WCS workers put unpleasant things such as chili oil (辣椒油) on the leaves of the crops to keep the monkeys away. Farmers have also started growing crops like potatoes, which the monkeys are less interested in eating.
To discourage people from cutting down trees in the kipunji s habitats (棲息地), the WCS has established other sources of wood. The kipunji s habitats have been turned into protected parks and reserves.
So far, their efforts have been successful. A 2022 study found that the area in which the monkeys live has increased in size by nearly 20%, and their population has risen to 1,966. If the efforts continue, the population of kipunji monkeys could double in 25 years. “It s not perfect,” former WCS director Tim Davenport said. “But it s in a considerably better place than it used to be.”
1.What does the underlined word “accumulating” in Paragraph 1 mean

C.To educate the local villagers. D.To develop the local economy.
4.Which statement will Tim Davenport probably agree with
A.Kipunji monkeys current living conditions are perfect.
B.The number of kipunji monkeys will double in 25 years.
C.The WCS hasn t done enough in protecting the monkey.

Ⅳ.七選五
Saving the environment is a hot topic right now, and most companies and conservationists are thinking of ways to “go green”, that is, to reduce pollution and save electricity. 1
How do you reduce energy use in your home How do you make your home eco-friendly 2 “Green” houses look similar to the houses we live in today, with a few noticeable differences. They have solar panels on the roofs or have some kind of wind power to produce their own electricity. On sunny or windy days when the house is not used, power is produced and stored in batteries for later use at night, while extra power is fed back into the power grid to make money. Imagine getting paid by the power company instead of paying the company. 3
One of the main reasons that we use so much power in our homes is to heat or cool them.“Green” houses are very well insulated, keeping the temperature inside fixed. 4 Obviously, the appliances used inside our houses must also be “green” to limit the energy they use and the waste heat they send out.
5 This way, they can reduce the burden on the environment for raw materials. You can paint your next house whatever color you like, but make sure it s “green”.
A.Used plastic, paper, and rubber are included.
B.The answer might be to build a “green” house.
C.Most importantly, solar energy or wind power is clean energy.
D.Finally, “green” houses are built largely from used materials.
E.Not only large buildings but also small family houses are “green”.
F.In the construction industry, this practice is also becoming popular.
G.As a result, we can reduce the need for a lot of power to heat or cool them.

I sat at the breakfast table with my four-year-old son, Andy, trying to ignore the ache in my stomach. “Mama, want to play ” “Not today, baby,” I shook my head. These days I could barely get out of bed. I was still recovering from an operation. I hoped for strength and happiness. But the future seemed so hopeless.
Suddenly Andy jumped up from his spot on the kitchen floor. “Bird!” he shouted, rushing to our courtyard. Sure enough, there was a white dove seated in a tree. It sat there for a few moments, and then flew away. Strange, I d never seen one in our neighborhood before.
When I dragged myself to the kitchen the next morning, the dove was back. This time it was with a mate(配偶) carrying sticks. “Look, Andy,” I said, pointing to the tree. “They are going to make a nest.” The doves flew in and out of the courtyard all week, building on top of the tree.
Andy could hardly contain his excitement. Every morning, he d run into the kitchen and take his spot by the door, talking to the birds while they worked. His happiness was influential. Much as I was sad, I couldn t help but look forward to the doves visit too.
Then it all went wrong. The courtyard was a safe enough spot for a nest, but the tree is broad, thin leaves far from stable. One night, a strong wind blew, throwing the doves nest to the ground. I heard the twigs(細枝) break apart.
I examined the damage. Nothing good ever lasted. I wouldn t blame the doves if they never came back. But they returned. They started again from the beginning. Again, though, the wind destroyed all their hard work. The next day, and the next, they started again, as if nothing had happened.
I knew I had to do something.

“It works! The birds are back!” Andy announced.

a variety of意為“各種各樣的”。
The lakes there are crystal clear and green all year round. “ 6 are surrounded by ancient trees and flowers”為非限制性定語從句,修飾The lakes,設空處在從句中作主語,指物,故填which。

根據第一段中“By the time most of the world discovered the kipunji monkey, it was already seriously endangered.” 又根據“Thanks to smart protection efforts, their population...”
根據第三段中“Farmers have also started growing crops like potatoes, which the monkeys are less interested in eating.”
根據第三段中“So WCS workers put unpleasant things such as chili oil (辣椒油) on the leaves of the crops to keep the monkeys away.”
根據倒數第二段中“To discourage people from cutting down trees in the kipunji s habitats (棲息地), the WCS has established other sources of wood.” 故選A。
根據最后一段中“If the efforts continue, the population of kipunji monkeys could double in 25 years.”可知,如果努力繼續,奇龐吉猴的數量會增加;又根據“‘It s not perfect,’ former WCS director Tim Davenport said. ‘But it s in a considerably better place than it used to be.’”

F項中的“this practice” 指代上文中的“to reduce pollution and save electricity”;“construction industry”與下文中的“home”相照應。
與上文構成因果關系,且G項中的“to heat or cool them”在上文中有原詞復現。
5.D 細節句。D項中的“used materials”與下文中的“raw materials”相照應,且下文中的“reduce the burden on the environment for raw materials(減少原材料對環境的負擔)”是D項中“‘green’ houses are built largely from used materials(‘綠色’房屋主要是用二手材料建成的)”所產生的結果,故D項符合語境。

One possible version:
I knew I had to do something. The doves provided brightness during my dark days. Now it was time to help them in return. I cut a piece of hardware cloth, forming it into the shape of a nest and then fixing the ends. I then hammered it into the wall next to the tree. After I finished all the work, there was only an hour before the doves usually made their visit. Andy and I stood by the door, waiting and hoping.
“It works! The birds are back!” Andy announced. Hearing his excited voice, I looked up. There they were, circling near the nest, trying to add some twigs to their new home. A few weeks later, three babies broke free from their shells. “Chirp, chirp,” Andy sang. I held one of the baby birds in my arms and kissed it, enjoying the happiness of the moment. Hearing them chirp, I felt the grayness within my heart disappear, replaced by the strength of life.
